Greetings, all! I'll be doing something a bit different today: I'll be playing whole sides of albums (one side each). Eight albums in all.

I like this Dark Marx record, but I don't find it too spine-chilling (it was recorded as the soundtrack for a horror movie)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Tue. 5/14/19 12:10pm Michael 98145:

subtle horror, it would seem
  Tue. 5/14/19 12:10pm Dean:

Oct. '88 Fangoria magazine includes this ad for the record:

SPACEY, SCARY MUSIC from the sci-fi/horror cult video "You Don't Bring Me Flowers.” This LP record soundtrack contains some of the most disgusting music and fart blasting noise ever recorded! Great part record! Send $5 to Dark Marx Productions, P.O. Box 55330, Hayward, CA 94545.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Tue. 5/14/19 12:11pm Michael 98145:

Wow @Dean. Great sleuthing !
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:12pm Tony Coulter:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Tue. 5/14/19 12:14pm JtotheK:

I take it Dark Marx was a side project for Richard?

Here's the ad, middle of right column: https://bit.ly/2vXOFqI
  Tue. 5/14/19 12:17pm Dean:

The P.O. Box now belongs to Rivers Association of Northern California, so don't write them expecting to acquire a copy of the record.

They ripped off Spinal Tap
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:29pm Tony Coulter:

I used to have a tape by one of the members of Once -- wish I still did.
  Tue. 5/14/19 12:39pm Dean:

Hmm...according to that discogs link, there's a fifth track on side A, "Maybe."
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Nah, that's a mistake on their part. "Maybe" is the first track on side B. I should complain to the head office.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:45pm Kay:

Is the show going to be archived, unlike Tape Hiss? Inquiring minds want to know.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

That's what comes from file-sharing -- people get confused.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Kay! Yes, it will be archived, since I'm playing 1/2 albums, not whole ones.
  Tue. 5/14/19 12:48pm Dean:

Well, that's the first time I've encountered error on the Web.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:49pm Tony Coulter:

Shocking, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/14/19 12:50pm coelacanth∅:

i liked that once
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 12:51pm Tony Coulter:

Oh, I forgot: here's the Yves & Alain Lorentz LP: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/14/19 12:54pm coelacanth∅:

i thought i encountered an error on a website recently, but gooble informed me i was mistaken, and reminded me of the day before when i left the house without my keys; and that my pants aren't very complimentary and directed me to an online shopping site.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Tue. 5/14/19 12:58pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

this keeps reminding me of Wendy Carlos
  Tue. 5/14/19 1:00pm Dean:

I once mumbled something about not trusting everything you read on the Web, and in response I received a sharply worded postcard from Sir Tim Berners-Lee chastising me for the indiscretion. He was pissed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Tue. 5/14/19 1:00pm JtotheK:

I really enjoyed that side of Yves & Saint Laurent LP! And discogs shows it's ... (relatively) attainable!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:02pm Tony Coulter:

@ JtotheK: Yes, I think it's a great LP -- and still much underappreciated ... hence the not-so-crazy price
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:06pm Tony Coulter:

Here's the Quantum LP on now: www.discogs.com...
  Tue. 5/14/19 1:07pm Dean:

It appears they have arranged an "easy" piano piece by Bartok in the suite that closes this side.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:10pm Tony Coulter:

Right you are!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:11pm Tony Coulter:

After all, what's a prog suite without quotations from a classical piece?
  Tue. 5/14/19 1:14pm Dean:

Ha, I read a scathing review of ELP's Works v.1 yesterday, including particularly damning comments about their treatments of classical tunes. But you know, a lot of groups only set the stage with recordings of classical tracks before they appear, e.g., Yes's routine entrance after the finale from Stravinsky's Firebird.
  Tue. 5/14/19 1:15pm Dean:

But then Wakeman did that bit from Brahms.
  Tue. 5/14/19 1:15pm Dean:

OT, Tim Conway has died.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/14/obituaries/tim-conway-dead.html
  Tue. 5/14/19 1:16pm Dean:

And RDM had that entire album of Bach tribute.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

Stinky Winkles covered Webern -- and very well too.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:20pm Tony Coulter:

Here's the Gambino album: www.discogs.com...

Note the "generic" cover
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

Thom Gambino is sort of a much hipper version of Rod Mckuen
Tue. 5/14/19 1:28pm Alessandro from Italy:

hii Tony !! Your voice sounds like John_Cage performed his "empty words" here in Milan in 1977 !! wow ... The same tone of voice !
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:31pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Alessandro! I assume you mean Thom Gambino's voice? Or do you mean my voice?!?
Tue. 5/14/19 1:33pm Alessandro from Italy:

YOUR voice.... you are the Cage_reincarnation !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/14/19 1:33pm Webhamster Henry:

It actually reminds me of Vincent Price at the end of "Dr. Phibes Rises Again" that John Schnall uses as his outro.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 1:35pm Tony Coulter:

This "Sunrise" LP, you mean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/14/19 1:40pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

I like the style description discogs gives this Frisbee album. It calls it "Rock & Roll, Prog Rock, Free Jazz, Field Recording, Avantgarde, Synth-pop, Experimental" music.

  Tue. 5/14/19 2:44pm Dean:

For a moment there it felt like Firesign Theater.
  Tue. 5/14/19 2:45pm Dean:

I wonder...are there DIY comedy albums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/14/19 2:47pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. This is cool. I am much less familiar with the earlier permutation of this band than the later one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/14/19 2:48pm Rich in Washington:

@Dean: Maybe some of Gregg Turkington's earliest efforts.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/19 2:48pm Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: The female vocalist here was also in Jungle Nausea. This first Rancid Vat is definitely one on the finest Portland records -- NW No Wave
