@flashback depends on what old is defined as and what the context is. I loathe classic rock as a format. Most of those songs I was sick of when they first came out, but when they're thoughtfully inserted in a set (Pseu Braun and EFD are especially adept at this) I can really appreciate them.

@Rev Rabbit I actually remember the exact moment when I chose freeform stations (or what passed for freeform) over the mainstream. Stands out as one of the handful of watershed moments in my life. I was laying in bed at about 16 years old, switching between stations on my little brown plastic clock radio with the scraggly wire antenna. Went to switch from WCVT (Towson's college station) to WLPL or a station of a similar ilk, and then said, nah...

I think its actually a great time to be a music fan. I'd be lost without the internet and access to stations and streams all over the globe. I can stream music from wherever over my phone and bluetooth it to my truck radio. (did I just use bluetooth as a verb? {shudder})

@revoulitian rabbit I listen to stations from Australia and a couple from Canada to hear some great music

Something to consider: There were many Small Broadcasters on the Interwebz who got shut down by a change in Royalty Laws that meant they couldn't keep up financially - while Spotify & giants still pay pennies on millions of plays...one for Techtonic, perhaps...& the Internet Providers scoop up profits for bringing all of it - & I doubt they pay a red cent for any Content @ all...

@JFFP do you ever listen to Like a Version? Its from an Aussie station. They have Australian acts cover popular songs. Was just listening to Julia Jacklin's slowed down, country-ish version of the Strokes "Someday" a couple hours ago on their YouTube stream. Alex Lahey did a great version of "Torn" on there as well
