You can count on Fabio to play excellent Bowie songs.
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 3:13pm Polyus:

It's weird, Bowie's death didn't *truly* hit me until I was listening to Wild Is The Wind about 6 months after the fact. Something about that song. . .

Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 3:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

"Balloon animals" are simple enough, but "animal balloons" are very different indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 3:16pm tim from champaign:

@Stanley - I saw Cooper-Moore perform a balloon solo once.
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 3:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

For goodness sake don't pop that ocelot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 3:18pm Rich in Washington:

@Polyus: It hit me kind of hard, happening just days before my 50th, which can be a milestone, especially if you're as inclined to clinical levels of melancholy such as myself.
Plus all the tributes, etc.
I learned about it while listening/reading the WFMU comment board. Weird way to experiencing the passing of someone we all thought would never die for some reason (or maybe that's just me).
  Thu. 2/14/19 3:19pm Travisano66:

Holy shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 3:19pm Crudbringer:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:19pm tim from champaign:

Man, does anyone else think that the other Crash is completely bogus?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:20pm tim from champaign:

I agree with Fabio that Punch Drunk Love and Phantom Thread are excellent.
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 4:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Super agree, re: Harold & Maude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:21pm The Oscar:

Saw Harold & Maude a couple years ago at Mount Auburn Cemetery, in a double feature with The Seventh Seal. Such an awesome night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:21pm steveo:

The Monkees' I'm a Believer is "one of the fewer than forty all-time singles to have sold more than 10 million physical copies worldwide"

Also the Wyatt version "features Fred Frith on violin, Andy Summers (later of the Police) on guitar, and drums by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, who also produced the recording. It was Wyatt's first recording after the June 1973 accident that left him a paraplegic"

Thus ends today's reading from Wikipedia.
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 4:22pm coelacanth∅:

i never saw either crash but when it came out it caused some controversy and i wanted to see it. just didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:22pm Ike:

Since the dopey ol' Oscars are coming up, and Fabio just mentioned the good "Crash", let's debate: Is the other "Crash" (2005) the worst movie ever to win Best Picture? Or is just ONE OF the worst movies to ever win Best Picture? (Oh man, I just typed this before noticing Tim's comment, but I'll go ahead anyway.)
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 4:24pm northguineahills:

My vocals are frying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:24pm crateslinger:

The 2005 Crash was so stupid. I watched it on the recommend of somebody whose opinion I used to respect. I had no idea it won an Oscar.
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 4:25pm coelacanth∅:

i don't know what has won best picture and what hasn't but i'll guess that many of the winners would pretty much suck in my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:25pm The Oscar:

@Ike There's a real chance that Green Book will win in a couple weeks. That, Crash, and Driving Miss Daisy would make a hell of a trilogy of out-of-touch Best Picture winners.
  Thu. 2/14/19 4:26pm Brendan:

I like to think of the romance in Harold and Maude as romantic. It helps me sleep better than entertaining the alternative ...

Say... whilst I have my head in the gutter, any good porn recommends for Valentine’s Day? Nothing with Ron Jeremy’s hairy backside ruining it either...
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 4:26pm geezerette:

The Oscar, ha ha haaaa....:D
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:27pm crateslinger:

I've spent the last twenty years going to see movies with my kids. Pretty soon I'll be going alone to my own movies again finally. My wife doesn't like movies where "nothing happens" she says.
  Thu. 2/14/19 4:27pm Brendan:

H& M platonic I meant to say
Avatar Thu. 2/14/19 4:28pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hi everyone. I took a look through the comments board and want to add a comment on two things: @steveo I'm shocked Fabio doesn't have a personal shopper like other celebrities; @michael I can't believe we are now heart-less on Valentines Day. A cruel time to prep for a marathon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 2/14/19 4:28pm crateslinger:

My daughter likes my boring movies now that she's 25 so I guess I'll start going with her again.

@Charmichael They were shooting the opening scenes of Wonder Woman II (1984) around here and I tried to wangle my way on set, but it was a closed set (my son has a small part in it, but its a speaking role so likely residuals yeah -- he'll be the wedding photographer at the beginning of the movie).

Ike @4.35 yes the animated one; and if i'd known it was animated before going i probably would've declined. so, i was unhappy when the movie started but it turned out to be done well. (ie where it was unbelievable & unrealistic it wasn't pretending to be realistic or believable)

My cousin had a VERY minor role in The Green Mile. I think his credit was Man in Chair.

I think electronically treated trumpet is my next favorite sound after mangled guitar.

@ Charmichael Yeah, my son will likely be Wedding Photographer. He said the director Patty Jenkins is an amazingly nice person who spent time chatting with everyone in the scene for an extended period. He spent time in LA, but has gotten more parts back here in the Baltimore/DC area. Discovery Channel and their offshoots are here in the area and he's had several uncredited little parts in the renactment shows
