It's -10 and snowing up here. This is perfect....
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:07pm JakeGould:

Yes! The Doors!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:09pm ultradamno:

Snow isn't the issue so much here as ice, freezing rain nearly every other day.

You could break out something from that new Residents Eskimo reissue to get in the mood to build igloos
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:09pm ultradamno:

...the issue here, I meant to say.

RIP Paul Whaley
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:33pm Kamp Climax:

Isn't it true that the best art has been made by individuals stuck in crappy environments (sold, industrial) and, at times, oppressive. Presently, the USA meets both those standards. Thus, some great art will be made within the next four days or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/29/19 9:33pm Nate K.:

@Ultra, good one, but I didn't pull it. Dang.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:33pm JakeGould:

Will say this about the cold in NYC: You can at least get a seat on the subway on cold days because lots of people work from home or call in sick.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:33pm Kamp Climax:

meant "cold" not "sold" but that fits too

@Upstter, just had a nice chat about Blue Cheer this AM. They rule.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:43pm Marc Francis:

Thanks for bringing me UP!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:48pm Kamp Climax:

Nate's show has this flaw: Under the Rock, Rot, and Rules Standard, he only plays those in the "Rules" category, which makes the arc of the show sort of flat. Let's get a little less exceptional every once in awhile. A tad bit of "Rot", a little more of "Rock."
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 9:50pm Kamp Climax:

I keed, I keed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/29/19 9:50pm Nate K.:

@Kamp, all the rot is on the inside.

How did I miss that these guys had new stuff out? Damn
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/29/19 9:51pm Aitch:

I too thought that was an Urge Overkill track (and quite a good one). Been hearing these Strapping Fieldhands a bit lately too, I like it. Stinking hot here in Sydney, we wish we were cold.

Hi Nate and everybody!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 10:00pm Kamp Climax:

Nate, don't shake me off again, I'm asking for the slider to the outside corner of the plate. Shake me off one more time, I'm coming out to the mound. Now make the pitch. Captain Beefheart, Zappa, The Fall, Paleface, Daniel Johnston. Make the pitch, dammit.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 10:01pm Kamp Climax:

Thank you pitcher man
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/29/19 10:02pm efd:

thanks for reminding me I need to play this Shogun & The Sheets some more, I played it once and then forgot about it somehow
  Tue. 1/29/19 10:08pm TheJBE:

Can't articulate how much I've appreciated your show tonight. It's snowing up here in Northern NE and I just drove home from tutoring a bunch of "privileged" kids at some crappy boarding school. You had me w/ Redd Kross, but then, Blondie, Blue Cheer, and The Dirt Bombs. Holy Christ!! Strapping Fieldhands were a band that I first heard on some comp cassette and I'm like, WTF? Who are these guys? So happy to know they're still kickin' it old skool indie. I'm going to have to pick up the new one. Thanks Nate!!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 10:09pm Marc Francis:

Damn. This song!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 10:14pm Marc Francis:

@ Kamp Climax: Do you want someone to play those songs that you mentioned? Maybe start your own radio show? Nate and Burn It Down has always been playing nothing but fantastic music. I learn something new every week. Every. Damn. Week. I wouldn't change a minute of it.

As your catcher, don't apologize for crap, best knuckle ever thrown on WFMU since Ken from Hyde Park's comment on 12/31/97 at 8:03 AM in response to the playing of 99 Luftballoons.

@Nate: Jim Shepard track: “The track comes from a performance sometime in the early ‘90s at the Milo Arts Coffee House in Shepard’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio.” www.covermesongs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/29/19 10:33pm Nate K.:

@Jake, much appreciated!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/19 10:35pm JakeGould:

No problem. And the first comment comes from someone who claims to have been the one to record it. I believe him since it’s too specific and esoteric to be a lie: “I actually recorded this on one of those Panasonic boomboxes. It was great it had a condenser mic on the left and right and the sound isn’t too shabby and one of the really great things about these mics minimal hiss. The Milo Coffeehouse was a coffeehouse I started in the kitchen/common area at the Milo Artist Colony. Jim’s performance I believe is from 1991. Along with Jim is Nudge Squidfish (Al Martin) playing acoustic guitar as well. They also performed Sinéad O’Connor’s “Black Boys On Mopeds” and The Doors “Unhappy Girl.” I believe that was the whole set and yes the whole performance does exist I just don’t have that cassette with me here in Cleveland. The funniest and oddest thing is this song has been in the ether long before Matt Horseshit “discovered” it. I in fact call horseshit on that. In fact it is on the first tribute I put together for Jim called “Matter Dominates Spirit” double vinyl record (produced along with Chris Loper) from 2003.”
