Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Rob W:

Oh you'll hear it again chresti... northguineahills: the Malawi Mouse Boys got their name because they were discovered singing while selling mouse kebabs on the road! They actually did play in NY once a few years ago...

Good evening rob!
I was chatting about different WFMU Djs with listener TDK60 while we staffed at Interference Archive yesterday. And it occurred to me that you might have some wisdom regarding some “political currents” in internationally produced music.
Interference Archive, which is around the corner from Barbes, collects social movement materials.
So we’ve got a collection of “political” music. Much of the Paredón music label catalog, Nueva Canción, Víctor Jara, onto illimani, etc, North American folk, South African labor lps, revolutionary songs of Mozambique and on.
I wonder if you might have some leads in regions unknown to us
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:37pm chresti:

Golden Festival. Makes me think of a Roy Shirley song about a golden festival, in Jamaica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm хtina:

oh, i was wondering what was going to happen with the goldenfest recording...well, thanks for archiving all those years.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm chresti:

"...for all you beautiful, lovely, fantastic people!" (he says in the song).

Thanks, to the max, steveo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Rob W:

Hi kevlicki - it's not necessarily an area of expertise for me but if you want, send me an email via the email link near the top of the page and I might have some thoughts / additional contacts...
  6:45pm kevlicki:

Will do! We’re always looking to expand our awareness of contemporary and historical stuff.
Thanks!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Smilty69:

Good evening, Rob & friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Rob W:

Thanks хtina - yes, all Free Music Archive (FMA) content is still up at www.freemusicarchive.org, including everything we've recorded at Golden Fest the past few years (which includes the tracks we're playing from last year's Golden Fest of course). But sadly WFMU no longer operates the FMA. (It's a little unclear what the company that acquired it, KitSplit, plans to do in terms of adding new content - so far I'm not sure if they've added any.)
