Hiya, Yvang and david w!!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:10pm glenn:

hey fred, meg remy lives not too far from me in west end toronto. a very interesting article on her. www.loudandquiet.com...
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:11pm glenn:

oh, and happy new year, one and all.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:11pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, glenn!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:19pm Tony Coulter:

The female vocalist on this Novo Tono track is Phew
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 12:25pm fred:

@glenn: thanks for that link! I remember that when I first saw her, in the basement of a bar in the suburbs of Paris, she did a wonderful reverb-soaked cover of a Springsteen song. She did it the right way, and that article tells why
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:28pm glenn:

i kinda like the pictorial aspect of it. it tells a lot about an artist. they all seem to be obsessive collectors.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

According to discogs, Mina (on now) has recorded 110 albums! Finally, a rival to Sun Ra.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:43pm Erella:

Happy new year Tony.
Hi Glenn, I live in the west end of Toronto too!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Erella! Happy New Year to you as well!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

Is Queen St. in Toronto still lined with records stores? It was the last time I was there, around 2000.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:48pm glenn:

hmmmm. there might still be a couple, but definitely not like it was.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:48pm Erella:

We just got a new record store on Roncesvalles (west part of toronto) where they sell mainly amazing, Sun Ra, punk bands, Lulu vinyl. I understand they will eventually have cds and books but their prices and stock is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 12:50pm Rich in Washington:

Happy Nude Ear, Tony!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:50pm Erella:

Queen Street is mainly bars and coffeeshops now. (How many does a city need?). We still have some incredible record stores though and new ones are opening (surprisingly enough).
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:50pm glenn:

if i hear one more hipster call it roncy, i'm going to push him under a streetcar. or her, but likely not.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:51pm Erella:

Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:51pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Rich! A Nude Ear to you too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 12:54pm fred:

@glenn: don't bother, they'll probably escoot their way there on their own
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 12:59pm Erella:

So nice to hear David Sylvian's voice today. Thank you
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:00pm Tony Coulter:

My pleasure! Plus, this is a remix by a member of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:01pm glenn:

what, he had time out from keeping an egg on his foot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:12pm Guido from Cologne:

Happy new year Tony and everyone!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:13pm Tony Coulter:

Same to you, Guido! And ... greetings!
  Tue. 1/1/19 1:18pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:18pm chresti:

Hello from SF! Happy New Year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:19pm Stanley:

Hi Tony. Greetings and Happy New Year from Barcelona (here until Thursday)
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Dean! Oops -- you're right, of course. Second album, not first.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:20pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, chresti and Stanley! Happy New Year to you both!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:22pm chresti:

The perfect way to usher in the new year.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:26pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey Tony, Hey Dean! HNY and all of that.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:27pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, Franco!! HNY 2 ewe 2!
  Tue. 1/1/19 1:28pm Dean:

Happy New Year, all. I actually stayed awake past midnight last night to text my son, who is visiting Portland.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:32pm Tony Coulter:

Here in Portland, this New Year's Eve was super-quiet, explosion-wise. Don't remember it being as quiet before.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:33pm Tony Coulter:

It didn't even disturb our cat's napping.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:35pm david w:

Same in Brooklyn A few drunken hollers, then nada. Odd.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:37pm Franco Twinkie:

We all got pretty high and sat around on the living room floor yukking it up, then slept like a big piece of cement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:37pm fred:

I don't even know how it went. I had a cold so I didn't go out and was asleep by ten. I guess I'm officially old
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:38pm glenn:

meh. i hated new years even when i was young.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:41pm Franco Twinkie:

I gotta go out and get some beans to cook so we can keep this party going.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:42pm Tony Coulter:

See ya, Franco T. It's bean nice.
  Tue. 1/1/19 1:46pm Dean:

Gonna make black eyed peas today, but I have only one Black Eyed Peas record to accompany the slow simmer. Too bad there's not a band called Lobster Bisque.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:46pm david w:

Behrman! A national treasure. And Kosugi, mmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:52pm fred:

A random thought: I saw Hofesh Schechter's show called "Show" again this week (I know, that's awkward). I highly recommend it. The ending is manipulative, but probably, possibly in a good way, with what's going on before
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:52pm chresti:

The Black Eyed Peas had a studio, down the alley from mine, I would wave at one of them when he was riding his moped up the alley, around '99
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:53pm glenn:

geeez. i'm kinda disappointed that there's no band named lobster bisque. it seems like a natural.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:54pm fred:

@glenn: now you know your next band's name
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:57pm glenn:

hell, i've got so many great band names, and so little talent...
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

The stupidest band name I've encountered recently: Leftover Salmon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 1:59pm fred:

It's 2018 man, who cares about talent?
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:00pm glenn:

plus i've got olympic class tinnitus already.
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:00pm Dean:

I was thinking of Leftover Salmon just this morning! Used to hear them Friday nights on KPFK, Thursday Lunch, a show devoted to the Dead and Dead-like bands. Used to play a lot of String Cheese Incident, too. Another dumb band name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 2:02pm fred:

I like this Karel Goeyvaerts track a lot
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:02pm Franco Twinkie:

The old San Francisco Tape Music Center is in the next block from here. Now it's an Arthur Murray Dance school.... Oh yeah, beans.
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:04pm Hot Sauce:

Roly Poly Fish Heads!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:06pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Hot Sauce!
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:07pm Dean:

The Goeyvaerts reminds me of works by Toyohiko Satoh, an early music lutenist who also composes his own works to be performed by an early music ensemble.
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:08pm Dean:

E.g., https://www.channelclassics.com/catalogue/3291-Works-of-Toyohiko-Satoh/
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:09pm Tony Coulter:

Yeah, this Goeyvaerts sounds a bit like an early music take on minimalism. Are there crumhorns in there, I wonder?
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:10pm Dean:

That little five note ostinato...crumhorn, no?
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:10pm Tony Coulter:

I think so, yes.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

Tho there are other similar-sounding instruments. My introduction to the crumhorn was the band Gryphon.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:12pm glenn:

crumhorn no is definitely good new band name.
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:13pm Dean:

Gryphon, of course. Me, too, except for this album:

...which I acquired well before hearing Gryphon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 2:14pm fred:

@glenn: at some point you should stop collecting band names and get one going
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:14pm H.S.:

Gryphon opened for the Yes-Relayer tour.
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:17pm Dean:

Not in these parts, H.S., alas. I don't even remember who opened that show, though I attended a stadium festival. Opening bands were, in order, Gentle Giant, Gary Wright, and Peter Frampton. In 1976, I a-l-m-o-s-t heard Gryphon at a club in London, but the group with which I was traveling left town that night. Servers at the hotel restaurant offered to take me to the show (50p admission), thence to Stratford, where the group was heading, but I chickened out.
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:22pm H.S.:

This was in Texas. They played Red Queen to Gryphon Three. Great Concert.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 2:23pm Guido from Cologne:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 2:24pm chresti:

@glen- my tinnitus has it's grand finale later on, in the evening...
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:26pm Dean:

Something tells me Ace opened for them in LA, the Inglewood Forum.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:36pm glenn:

tinnitus is horrible. it's like that family member you hate. it won't shut up and it won't go away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 2:40pm chresti:

Ace F Ford?

My tinnitus is a low hiss that gets louder, later, in the evening. music helps
  Tue. 1/1/19 2:42pm Dean:

Pub rock band Ace

hi Tony and all
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:46pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, coelacanth∅!
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:54pm Tony Coulter:

Weirdly, Aimee Mann was a member of Young Snakes (on now)
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 2:59pm coelacanth∅:

i feel that most people don't really listen to Aimee Mann.
Avatar Tue. 1/1/19 3:00pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Tony! best of luck in the new revolution.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 3:00pm fred:

Thanks Tony, I hope I'll be able to tune in more often
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 1/1/19 3:00pm listener james from westwood:
