Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:03pm ultradamno:

Hello Adriene and other time-shifters.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:05pm northguineahills:

ready for some temporal dysplaysia!
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:08pm TDK60:

Hello Adriene, it may be first time here..
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:09pm dale:

i wonder if the coreolis effect makes water spin faster in a 'faster' time zone. and does it spin at all on the equator
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:09pm northguineahills:

Just got here, what's the theme today?
  Thu. 12/20/18 6:09pm Listener Robert:

I thought Irwin and Jim Price had between them an exclusive on the use of Carl Stalling around there. Until another DJ broke the ice a few days ago.
  Thu. 12/20/18 6:11pm Listener Robert:

Isn't HCJB also in Quito? You don't have to travel to hear it.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:11pm northguineahills:

I saw the Stalling box set in Fabio's store a while back. Still kicking myself for not getting it.

Gyorgy Ligeti's "100 metronomes" would fit perfect here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Set the WABAC machine for Adriene's show, Mister Peabody!
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:12pm northguineahills:

@Robert: I believe they have a boosting antenna right outside Quito.
  Thu. 12/20/18 6:12pm Listener Robert:

You want to make water spin, use a spoon. Any direction you like.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:16pm northguineahills:

Adriene, you could also use Svalvard or the Isfjord radio stations, both w/ antennas on Spitsbergen, but are now operated remotely from the Norwegian mainland.
Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:19pm adriene:

@northguineahills Sadly, I didn't manage to find a usable stream for anything on Svalvard for the show this week! Bodo was the next closest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:21pm Ken From Hyde Park:

So the peaks of the Andes are, in a sense, higher than Mt. Everest because they are farther from the center of the earth.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:22pm northguineahills:

Closer to the equator, further from the earth's core on average. Vice versa for the poles.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:24pm TDK60:

..don't know if off-topic, but I heard the Norwegians just closed down all FM stations, for reasons I don't know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yeah, I think they're switching over to digital technology. There must be some articles about that on the web.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:30pm dale:

love the idea of talking to an astronaut via ham and picking it up on shortwave
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:32pm northguineahills:

@TDK: I believe that was only for Nationally owned stations, they are now satellite broadcasted/stream except for booster FM antennas in the far north/rural areas. I believe they still have a handful of private stations.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:32pm TDK60:

..thanks Ken FHP & NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:35pm melinda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

If this was on a commercial station, there would be an ad for a time share right about here.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:42pm βrian:

Wasn't Diogenes the original Blind Tourist?
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:44pm TDK60:

Ken From Hyde Park: If this was a commercial station, I wouldn't have the time.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:44pm βrian:

... hmm, maybe not.
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:44pm ultradamno:

i've heard a theory somewhere that time keeps on slipping into the future necessitating flight (not unlike, say, a bird of prey) for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The ISS is passing near Ecuador right now. eol.jsc.nasa.gov...

@βrian: He was found of using pottery as an abode, so, it would have been fitting to reference him last week!
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:52pm northguineahills:

@Ken: Never seen the ISS (couldn't in NYC). But there's a rural graveyard about 10 km from here that I stargaze from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:53pm Jeff Moore:

Is that fella showing how to derive the Lorentz transformations on a cocktail napkin to amuse people at parties?
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:56pm TDK60:

..this was my first time here on the show, had a great time. see ya next time! in a week...will it have seemed a short or a long week? time will tell..
Swag For Life Member Thu. 12/20/18 6:57pm adriene:

Thanks everyone for listening & thanks for the link to the ISS location
Avatar Thu. 12/20/18 6:57pm northguineahills:

  Thu. 12/20/18 6:58pm Listener Robert:

NGH, I did observe a satellite from my yard in the Bronx when I lived there.
