Sam Rivers, relocated from NYC to Orlando, I got to see him many times as an undergrad, as he was one of the few jazz greats that would play around. He brought Mathew Shipp and William Parker w/ him on one tour (first time I saw all of the aforementioned), and it brought me out of my indie ghetto when I was 19)

@ngh - which bands? Last year I did an experiment with myself to check out 90s major label albums that I had ignored back then (ie Butthole Surfers, Meat Puppets, etc) Some were better than I expected and some really stunk.
