Snow & rain have the Jersey reservoirs topping out. Wish I could say the same about the Southwest and California.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:11am Jeff Golick:

Ok! Yes! Good morning and welcome, @Andrew in Etobicoke! @Uncle Michael! @listener James from Westwood! @Listener "glipto" Gregory! And all ships at sea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:11am Uncle Michael:

For those curious, it's bagels, lox and all the trimmings, and scrambled eggs here this morning. destination:IN (my belly)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:12am Jeff Golick:

Mmmmmm.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:18am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff & Jazzers. Rain stopped play, again.
  Sun. 12/2/18 9:19am Listener Gregory:

Outer space is not really like this, unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:19am Jeff Golick:

'afternoon, @Brian in UK! Which play is that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:19am Jeff Golick:

'tis true, @LG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:20am Brian in UK:

How could you blow your horn with a space helmet on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:22am Jeff Golick:

Ah, yes. Important play. Who does the play-by-play? (Is "play-by-play" an Americanism?)

You ask good questions.
  Sun. 12/2/18 9:25am JtotheK:

Hi Jeff hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:26am Jeff Golick:

J! to! the! K!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:28am Brian in UK:

Do not know play-by play.

It is that fine rain that at first you ignore until you realise that you are drenched. My thoughts when riding a motorcycle in the rain were that once I waw soaked I could not get any wetter. My glass is usually half full.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:32am Jeff Golick:

I like that attitude. I'd by happy to join you in a muddy foxhole, Brian. (Well, "happy.")

Here's play-by-play: www.merriam-webster.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:33am Brian in UK:

All the archive shows are using the 'old' pop-up even those since the new one appeared recently. Quaint to see the album sleeves, details etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:35am Jeff Golick:

Is there a newer new one? I thought the new one had the album covers and details, etc....?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:35am Brian in UK:

If it was say cricket over here, it would be called ball-by-ball commentary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:37am Brian in UK:

Sorry yes the new one with details but if you archive last weeks show it will be the old pop-up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:37am Doug Schulkind:

OUTER SPACE = POET SAUCER

[Easily the best contribution I've made to humanity all week.]
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:38am Jeff Golick:

Oooohhhh! I see, @Brian. Yeah. Huh. I suspect they like to keep the archive pretty lean, memory- or resource-wise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:39am Jeff Golick:

@Doug! Adding anagrams to your arsenal? Puns aren't enough?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:41am Brian in UK:

Quite understand.

@Doug, that I do not believe. Did you ever have the expression space cadet over there, or maybe it originated in the US.
  Sun. 12/2/18 9:42am Listener Gregory:

Who's the sax soloist on Omniverse?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:42am Jeff Golick:

JOHN GILMORE! JOHN GILMORE! JOHN GILMORE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:43am Brian in UK:

  Sun. 12/2/18 9:43am Listener Gregory:

Unexpected!
  Sun. 12/2/18 9:45am Listener Gregory:

DOUG SCHULKIND = LUCID GODS HUNK

OK, I used an anagram program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:45am Jeff Golick:

Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:46am Doug Schulkind:

But hardly surprising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:46am Brian in UK:

@LG brilliant apart from Gods. Doug is his own man!
Oh the rain has stopped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:50am duke:

Late to the party, but I'm here
  Sun. 12/2/18 9:51am Listener Gregory:

I strongly advise everyone NOT to put their own name through an anagram generator, because you can't forget the things you see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:52am Jeff Golick:

@duke: NOW it's a party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:52am Uncle Michael:

Did I just? hear '77 Subversive Strip'
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:53am Brian in UK:

First time I heard Sun Ra must have been around 1971. I was not prepared, too young maybe, though John Coltrane had got my attention with his late Fifties/early Sixties quartets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:54am Jeff Golick:

On the anagram front, I have a track tentatively slated for later that is an author reading a palindrome of his own devising...for 15 minutes. Good idea? Bad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:54am Uncle Michael:

Is it one, short palindrome...over and over?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:55am Jeff Golick:

@UM: you talking musical quotations? If so, I missed it.

And, no: it's one very long palindrome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:55am Brian in UK:

Right, time for some tree pruning. Will carry the Sun outside metaphorically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:56am Jeff Golick:

Cheers, @Brian! May the sun rise to shine over your head. Or however that goes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:56am Uncle Michael:

Yes, I heard a VERY disrupted quote of the 77 Sunset Strip theme. I might be hearing it again. Yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 9:57am Brian in UK:

As long as it is not a sarahpalindrone. I better be going.
  Sun. 12/2/18 9:57am Listener Gregory:

Bizarre that while listening to Sun Ra, I read of an art exhibit in Paris entitled "Space is Silence." I believe Mr. Ra would beg to disagree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:05am Doug Schulkind:

My all-time favorite palindrome, brief and utterly, delightfully pointless

SIT ON A POTATO PAN OTIS
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:06am Jeff Golick:

That's a good one. I'm a fan of:

Go Hang a Salami! I'm a Lasagna Hog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:07am Doug Schulkind:

Lovely that!
  Sun. 12/2/18 10:07am Listener Gregory:

Doug, it's almost as good in reverse.
  Sun. 12/2/18 10:08am Davec:

Can you play NRG ensemble...those guys still get together...Monday at beat kitchen in Chicago...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:10am Jeff Golick:

Hiya, @Davec! Thanks for the request. Will try, though might not be able to fit it into what I've got planned today.
  Sun. 12/2/18 10:21am mic_break:

Speaking of Sun Ra and John Gilmore, there's this remarkable document:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAVXGWEumUc

of the Arkestra augmented by very big name free jazz men (Cherry, Bowie, Shepp....) -- happened at a German jazz festival, of course. Fascinating overall, but somewhere in the later portion (I don't remember the exact time point), John Gilmore plays a solo that takes everyone else to school. And you can see them acknowledging it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:22am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for that, @mic_break, and welcome! Will def check it out after the show. What year is it from, if you recall?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:23am Sem:

Hello and good morning, Jeff, and time zone appropriate greets to the OUT crowd, be they scarfing down pad thai somewhere hot, or chancing a bit of well-aged auk, somewhere not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:24am Jeff Golick:

@Sem! Hi! You've just described the best possible version of "hot or not."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:25am doctorjazz:

Hi all! Been in Thailand for a week, Vietnam tomorrow, 12 hour time difference from NY/NJ area (and running about Chiang Mai) has kept me off the threads. Nice to connect with some home sounds
Avatar Sun. 12/2/18 10:25am glenn:

Avatar Sun. 12/2/18 10:26am glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:27am doctorjazz:

The Pad thai is pretty good here . ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:27am Jeff Golick:

@doctorjazz! Checking in from Thailand! Amazing.

@glenn: no argument here.

@mic_break: thanks.
Avatar Sun. 12/2/18 10:28am glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:28am doctorjazz:

But I'm partial to the sticky rice with Mango (I'm a dessert kind of guy).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:29am Doug Schulkind:

@doctorjazz
Keep the snazzy pictures on FB coming. We've got some vicarious traveling to do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:31am doctorjazz:

I've got more elephant pics than anyone would EVER need to see . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:32am Jeff Golick:

Speaking of listening to other things: my fellow Jeff, and fellow WFMU dj, and fellow Sunday morning show host, Jeff Sarge over on the main stem recently experienced a house fire that destroyed many of his possessions and left him without a home. If folks wanted to send a good word his way, he's here now: www.wfmu.org...
  Sun. 12/2/18 10:33am Listener Gregory:

I normally work during the show, but today I'm just pretending to work and realize I'm hearing a lot more of the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:35am Brian in UK:

@glenn, I guess that is the Great Joe Bob?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:36am Doug Schulkind:

hat Art definitely needs an extra T here. Maybe three.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:37am Jeff Golick:

@LG: that's our motto: "WFMU: lowering work productivity since 1958."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:38am Jeff Golick:

Ha. Thanks, @Doug. I think I was deciding whether to go with ART or art or Art, and just leaned on the T too long.
Avatar Sun. 12/2/18 10:38am glenn:

that is indeed the great joe bob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:38am Brian in UK:

@docjazz glad you are enjoying your perambulations. An elephant sanctuary visit is compulsory over there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:38am doctorjazz:

Great place outside of Chiang Mai, Elephant Nature Park, where they rescue abused elephants (they're terribly treated when people put them to work... They get there with all sorts of physical and emotional damage) , and dogs, cats, also water buffalo hang out. It's a beautiful and wonderful place
Avatar Sun. 12/2/18 10:38am glenn:

a regional tragedy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:40am Doug Schulkind:

As long as you make it AUM Fidelity and not Aum. Oh, and Impulse! (Rules are rules.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:41am Brian in UK:

@docjazz you may be surprised to find out that there are a lot of shall we say copied CDs over there. My daughter bought me some from Ankor Wat. Do not have the heart to to her though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:44am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: I'm not a barbarian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 10:47am doctorjazz:

  Sun. 12/2/18 11:07am Listener Gregory:

Hey, isn't this usually your talk-over music? Or Doug's?
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:08am rw:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:09am Jeff Golick:

@rw: Just Earth spinning round up in here. Welcome to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:10am Jeff Golick:

@LG: I think Doug uses a different track from this record to talk over from time to time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:10am doctorjazz:

Love this Joe Henderson /Alice Coltrane track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:13am Doug Schulkind:

I talk over "Water." Which is very different from saying I walk over Water. But not very very different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:14am Sem:

Walking on air here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:15am Jeff Golick:

Charlie Haden getting all funky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:31am Brian in UK:

Walking on sunshine here, not.

Almost pitch black at 4:30. Only three weeks to the longest day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:33am doctorjazz:

1940-Earth is also really cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:34am doctorjazz:

1847, that should have read
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:44am Listener Gregory:

Running out of time to play that 15-min palindrome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:45am Jeff Golick:

@LG: good eye. Not gonna make it today.
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:45am Listener Gregory:

Perhaps there should be a separate palindrome channel on WFMU. Then we could get our fix whenever we want.
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:46am Listener Gregory:

On Saturdays, there could be a break with an anagram show.

Just an idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:47am Jeff Golick:

A edi idea.
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:49am Listener Gregory:

There must be some serialist composition from 1950 that is a perfect musical palindrome. I would pay money not to hear that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:49am doctorjazz:

Ok, Josh Sinton sent me to Bandcamp ..

Hi, @Dean!
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:53am Dean:

I stayed up all night practicing.
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:55am Listener Gregory:

Hmmm, not clear the Bach piece is an actual palindrome. It can be played forward or backwards, but is it a mirror image? Will have to check.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:55am Sem:

Been excellent fun this morning, Jeff. Thank you. Hope to see you and all next time around.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:56am doctorjazz:

Thanks Jeff, glad I could catch the show Good week all!
  Sun. 12/2/18 11:56am Listener Gregory:

Wikipedia: It originally referred to a kind of canon in which one line is played backward (e.g. FABACEAE played simultaneously with EAECABAF).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/2/18 11:57am Jeff Golick:

@Sem, @UM, @doc: thanks so much for sharing this time/place/space.
