Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: Hi!

@jakeGould: There's a good (and by "good" I mean "terrible") reason she decided to remake this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm

@Jake- same here

medson hello; others were on the comment board the prior show; hello again.

Longer songs than what I've been playing the past two shows means individualized hellos, kind listeners.
Avatar 8:21pm
TDK60:

Gaylord breaks the 3:35 limit, oh my!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Gaylord Fields:

@TDK60: I do every week, and then some, except when I'm playing the hit singles of 1972.
Avatar 8:25pm
TDK60:

Your '72 shows were great, what a trip..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Gaylord Fields:

@TDK60: Oh, Bronwyn B and I had a ball doing them. But that's all I dare foist upon you (for now...).
  8:26pm
sweet cheri:

greetings grand Gaylord and everybody, grand Gaylord thanks very much for bringing us parts 1 & 2 tunes of 1972, I really did enjoy those shows! grand Gaylord please let me know if life was a lot better back in the 70's then today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Aitch:

Still wondering what was the worst year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Aitch: My estimation is somewhere between 1950 and 1953, when it comes to pop hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Gaylord Fields:

@sweet cheri: Not better, just different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Aitch:

At least it would be a short show. Born mid sixties, seemed particularly horrid early to mid 80's
  8:34pm
sweet cheri:

grand Gaylord, please give me details, how different??

Opa & Giampiero Boneschi, new to me!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm

this has a James Bond feel...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm

@chresti it does. This is the first time I've connected the name Janelle Monae to a sound.

there's the Carpenters vibe from last week, courtesy of Rumer
Avatar 8:53pm
TDK60:

Gaylord: on the black charts there must've been good early-'50s R&B; and the blues clubs in Chicago, Memphis, etc..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
chresti:

pp- yeah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Gaylord Fields:

@TDK60: But there really was practically no crossover onto the pop charts of any of that sort of black music until the rock & roll era..
Avatar 8:58pm
TDK60:

..it was later -'54 or '55?- Chuck Berry, Fats Domino/etc. got onto "pop" charts, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
chresti:

I see Eartha Kitt and Nat King Cole on the '53 chart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

@chresti: They were both pop singers who happened to be black. TDK60 and I are specifically referring to blues and R&B recordings, which were rarely represented on the pop hit parade pre-1955.
Avatar 9:03pm
TDK60:

..when Bo Diddley invented electricity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm

Little Richard had a hit in '56
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Gaylord Fields:

@chresti: Which is after 1954. Not understanding your point here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
chresti:

I'm looking for the first years that weren't completely whitewashed and bland is all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Gaylord Fields:

That's likely 1955.
  Swag For Life Member 9:19pm
maggiemaggie:

This voice sounded so familiar, I had to check out who it was. Haven't heard Dory Previn in a while!
  9:20pm
sweet cheri:

grand Gaylord, I REALLY wish you could do more shows of tunes from the 1970's,,but I guess you're tired of doing them, right? (wishful thinking...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
Gaylord Fields:

@chresti: I understand now. Thanks for clarifying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm

Joe Turner took 'Shake, Rattle, and Roll' to #22 on the pop charts in '54.

Uncle Michael:

This 'Quiet Village' always blows my little mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
Gaylord Fields:

Lord love a duck, people! I never said there were no R&B songs on the pop charts pre-1955! Just that it was a rarity, especially compared to '55 and beyond.
Avatar 9:41pm
TDK60:

..you have your post-rock and you have your pre-rock = Louis Jordan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm
Uncle Michael:

I'm not arguing with you, Gaylord. I'm just finding the research interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
Gaylord Fields:

"The Devil in Miss Jones" has the un-porniest porno soundtrack!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
Uncle Michael:

This could be the first dance at someone's wedding.
  Swag For Life Member 9:44pm
maggiemaggie:

It could be the soundtrack to drone footage of beautiful landscapes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm
Uncle Michael:

The research supports the rarity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
Uncle Michael:

I don't know this Legrand soundtrack. I've yet to hear anything by him I didn't like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: That's because you have extraordinarily good taste in music.
  9:53pm
sweet cheri:

grand Gaylord, i'm very sorry I hounded you about tunes from the 70's, it's just that you got me hooked...good night all!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
Uncle Michael:

I'm sure my entry point to Legrand was "Le Mans," which isn't bad way to start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
Uncle Michael:

Is the name "Morricone Youth" *supposed* to reverberate with "Ciccone Youth"?
Avatar 9:58pm
TDK60:

..great sounds Gaylord, fun talkin' music, '70s '50s, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
Granny Spicy Tuna:

And did that refer to Sonic Youth and what did that refer to?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
Uncle Michael:

Thank you, Gaylord.
  9:59pm
Steiner in Whately:

Thank you for such great sounds tonight,Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm

Ciccone Youth was a Sonic Youth offshoot that referred to Madonna Ciccone.
