I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I got jumped recently... 1st time in about ten years but very similar circumstances. bunch of teenagers. I kinda saw it coming but I didn't want to judge them/be paranoid. Spent a week eating soft food as a result. Moral: be paranoid! trust your spidey sense and take appropriate evasive action! no need to hide in your apartment tho... Mayuko, I really enjoy listening to your perspective on everything! Good stuff! You seem to always get me thinking.
Avatar 1:22pm
Mayuko:

I am so sorry to hear that Johnzon! Even when attack is verbal it's the experience of being targeted that's already traumatizing. Let alone a physical attack. We do have very good reasons to be afraid and paranoiac and it's a real challenge to stay open-minded. That is a great quote, so true.

Have there been anymore sightings of the Mandarin duck that was seen in Central Park recently? I hope it's alright.

Mayuko:

@Dropof thank you! I'm fortunate to have listenerds like you who understand my often incoherent mic breaks! I think I didn't hit the Louis Wain Cats level 4 today, so that's good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Johnzon I agree with you completely. Sorry to hear about what happened. Scary stuff. I got robbed at knifepoint back in 87 and I'm still paranoid from the experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Ha! I forgot about the Wain Cat's scale! I'm not sure whether I enjoy more, the tracks you play or your incoherent mic breaks! The verdict is still out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
melinda:

I like your mic breaks too.

@Johnzon@1:04, I can relate — same thing happened to me about 5 years ago in NJ. Used to be a safe suburban neighborhood, until suddenly it wasn’t. I always watch my back now.

Joe:

Very sorry to hear about your experience Johnzon. Getting mugged is so scary and traumatic that it's hard not to be defensive and paranoid long after it happens. Last time it happened to me it was right in front of my apartment at the time, and I didn't want to go out for months afterwards! It's a terrible thing for anyone to go through but it sounds like you are handling it with wisdom and grace... hope you get well soon.

@Ike 5 years is not so long ago!! I am so sorry! Was that in Jersey City???

Good for duck!

Ike:

No that was in northern Newark near the light rail, actually a very pretty neighborhood near the tennis courts. Come to think of it, it was 2011, so 7 years ago.

(But at least Mayor Cory Booker responded directly to me when I tweeted to him about it, LOL.)

Feel better, Johnzon. Some punk kids harassed my pals and I as we were walking from the Javits Center to the train station in NYC some years ago. It's scary.

i (with someone else) was attacked by a group of 12-15 guys in the early 80s who all had skin that was not the complexion of my own. it never brought out any bigotry in me.
a friend back at the apartment this woman and i were walking back to, who was in collage -"liberal arts" "black history" etc. who was annoyingly pro-"black", -when we got back to , and i had blood pouring down my face from my scalp - he ran outside and started yelling words that i wont repeat here. fucking hypocrite.

I couldn't resist and also took a peep at the pipa pipa. Beautiful! Thanks for the music, Mayuko!
  2:05pm

(I shouldn’t imply that there was anything wrong w/Mayor Booker’s tweet BTW. Normally you wouldn’t hear from the mayor after getting mugged and beaten up a little so actually that was very cool of him.)

@coel interesting, seems like some of the most self-consciously woke people (not a phrase in the 80s I don't think but same sentiment) are overcompensating for inner demons.

Kink Gong was way better than I expected. Still laptop based, but he put the samples to good use. The bad news is he told me he's "done with Asia", so there no forthcoming field recordings. His ex-wife still works the field though, but the songs are dying off along with the singers
Avatar 2:09pm
Mayuko:

@fred That's cool that the show was great, but that's too bad to hear that the songs are already almost all going away. I guess Asian people want to enjoy modern/globalized aesthetic too which probably are not what he wants to use. I want to learn how the traditions are evolving in Asia though, just like I got to briefly experience how the local folk scene in Okinawa is thriving while their traditional rituals are dying. It's an interesting topic for sure.
