The Residents had their radio debut on KBOO Community Radio in the mid 70s. I interviewed Homer Flynn a few years ago and he finally confirmed this long-running, at times thought apocryphal tale.
It was on a show run by a gentleman named Bill Reinhardt, who did a wonderful program called Radio Lab (years before the similarly named podcast). He was a friend of the Residents in the early days and hung out with them and they sent him a tape especially prepared for airplay on KBOO.

yes! i have that "Buy or Die!" sampler too!
i think i must have started sending for The Residents' singles in the mid-1970s? still living at home with the parents in "the sticks" (a/k/a central rural/suburban NJ) . . . saving up my lunch money & using it to buy records instead . . . :)
although i have no recollection about how i first heard about them (possibly a photo of them in their newspaper outfits/blurb about then in one of the "rock" magazines???)
years later, saw them with the "ex" during their Cube-E tour . . . TOTALLY amazing and mind-blowing and still one of the BEST shows i have seen EVER (and not just saying that b/c we were both doing a half-hit of acid)
THANK YOU FABIO for this beautiful tribute . . . The Residents meant/mean so much to so many of this . . . .

P-90: I feel very much the same. I think it's that in the end, he so nakedly told us he was going, took the mask off, literally. I never got to interview him - he wasn't the spokesman like Homer was - who I think he only did it out of sheer necessity, but Hardy sort of revealed himself when he stated his retirement from the group, maybe knowing then that his mortality was coming. So yeah, it hit me hard, too.
