Really? Is this.... interesting?

The silent bits were exemplary

I thought my connection was lagging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:16am jj.:

necessary is relative, of course, but i genuinely enjoyed the phrasings/melodies that got created by the removal of the beats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:17am Scraps:

Ah! Okay, I didn’t hear that.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:21am MONEYBAG$:

the other day I drove by a theater that said TONIGHT: MICHAEL NESMITH on the marquee and I almost crashed...so upset about being out of the nez loop
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:24am miketp:

chirgilchin is a great band name.the song rocks.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:24am jj.:

i knew the shows were happening, but couldn't make it. still bummed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:25am jj.:

also, get back in the nez loop starting here: www.rollingstone.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:25am northguineahills:

This is a great soundtrack for shaving off your beard!
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:25am DJ E:

Oh, I liked it but I was confused at first until I read the song title. also thought you might have been playing a scratched 45.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:27am Dean:

Hardy Fox, gone. Will there be tributes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:29am jj.:

indeed, residents set coming up in a matter of minutes. not sure about gone, precisely, but en route. therefore, sending love.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:29am MONEYBAG$:

last summer during the bakers dozen I sat in my hotel room all day reading the Nez bio. With the heat on. In August.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:33am Dean:

Hits the spot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:34am Aitch:

Yes a post Residents world will be a poorer place
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:36am jj.:

y'know, not actually sure it's going to be a post-residents world. he resigned from the band a few years ago, and they've continued on, which kinda makes sense given who they are (or aren't).
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:38am katharsis:

Internal siren response system fully functioning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:39am Scraps:

Hell, I didn’t know that the Residents had names.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:39am jj.:

they didn't have names 'til he resigned & copped to being a resident!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:40am Scraps:

And I didn’t know that
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:42am ReadingDoonesbury:

West Coast greetings. Late, but glad to be in time to catch the Residents.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:43am Dean:

I first read about them in Trouser Press, c.'75. My first acquisition was Fingerprince from a vendor at the Capitol Records building record swap meet. A treasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:44am jj.:

i discovered them through a sleepaway camp counselor in the early '90s who had 2 milkcrates of CDs with him for the summer. one random indie rock, one entirely residents. went home with tapes of some.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:46am Dean:

Buddy of mine gave me the Beatles EP, numbered, for a birthday many years ago. I still believe their magnum opus is Eskimo.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:47am Dean:

Played that in the record store where I worked c.'79. A head turner.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:47am Dean:

And MotM was the only tour I caught, Roxy, Sunset Blvd.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:48am Dean:

(Saw them not too long ago here in Berkeley, too, at the old art museum space.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:48am Aitch:

Hard to have a favourite, but the relentless pace of The Commercial Album my go-to, or Duck Stab, etc etc..lots of it.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:49am rw:

Hello! I don't remember when I first heard of The Residents but I have a friend who still tells the story of how I played them for him on the crappy tape deck in the high school darkroom and it freaked him out. It may have been their cover of Satisfaction.
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:50am Dean:

Hell, yes! Duck Stab, Satisfaction, Commercial Album (with Frith et al.). What a catalog!
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:50am rw:

And, a crate full of nothing but Residents? That sounds intense in and of itself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:50am jj.:

that milk crate blew my mind in many ways, not just the music, but everything about its existence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:51am Aitch:

The Elvis covers on The King and Eye quite threatening as well. Elvis was one sick puppy
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:52am Dean:

"Please don't squeeze the Charmin says Mr. Whipple!"
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:52am DJ E:

The performance of this song that they use in the Documentary from a few years ago was pretty intense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:52am Scraps:

Apparently one Charles Bobuck was a Resident, and left a few years ago. I dunno, maybe it’s Fox also. I’m not sure about reality when discussing the Residents
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:52am rw:

And... thanks jj for playing that Gershwin! I'd never heard it. Rhapsody in Blue was my grandfather's favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:52am Aitch:

Bobuck is Fox
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:53am Scraps:

see, you say it....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:56am Aitch:

And 3 times was the point of the album. 1x verse and 1x chorus 3 times for a pop song. They gave you 1 verse and 1 chorus and you were supposed to retape it for yourself to make it commercial. Bonus you get 40 songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:56am Scraps:

from an interview: “HARDY: I can’t speak for Charles.”

But of course he would say that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:56am jj.:

yup, that was my intention in playing it 3x!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:56am resident∅coelacanth:

hello
  Tue. 9/25/18 12:57am Dean:

A Jon Hassell vibe. Was he a Resident?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 12:59am jj.:

i'll take the fairly obvious solo releases under the name "h.fox-bobuck" over the past few years as decent evidence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 12:59am jmd:

Goodbye and thanks, Hardy. We'll miss you. Thanks Jesse for playing.
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:01am Dean:

I mean, was Hassell one of them? A joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:05am Scraps:

Dean, I think he was responding to me about Fox / Bobuck
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:05am Dean:

Gotcha, Scraps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:06am Scraps:

Except maybe you weren’t saying what I thought you were saying. Argh.
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:08am Dean:

I was saying precisely what I assumed you would think I was saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:08am Scraps:

Whew!
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:09am Dean:

"Whew!"?! How dare you!

  Tue. 9/25/18 1:15am Dean:

FYI, David Crosby lectured at Harvard today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:16am Scraps:

Well, I didn’t say “necessary”, I said “interesting”. Either way, I wish I hadn’t. My comment was not necessary.
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:16am ypp:

and toss said fernario not fenario
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:17am Dean:

Something, I think, about hippies in California, about which he is presumably an authority.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:21am Scraps:

Jeezus. I was on the Well for a while, and one thing I discovered was Croz was an asshole, but even worse, had nothing interesting to say. He just wanted to bask in the glory of being Croz, and there were unashamed acolytes who provided his pleasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:22am Scraps:

Another unnecessary comment!
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:23am Dean:

I have no direct experience with The Well, but I am mildly familiar with Howard Rheingold's stupid book about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:24am Scraps:

I never read it. The book was before my time.
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:27am katharsis:

Mmm like a warpy relaxed david burn
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:28am Dean:

It was right in the middle of my time, and it pissed me off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 1:29am ReadingDoonesbury:

OOOOOH. Nice. gotta check out this Santa Cruz thing.
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:29am Dean:

Don't get me wrong. I imagine The Well was amazing. But Rheingold, not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 1:30am coelacanth∅:

i don't know what "the well" is but i've heard Crosby has been a douche and it bums me out a little because i think some of the best byrds songs and some of the best csny songs are his, and i like his solo work; and he had/has a beautiful voice. easily the best vocals of csny, in my opinion.
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:31am rw:

It's necessary for me to check out now. Thanks for the radio Jesse! Good night everyone. Take care and be well!
Tue. 9/25/18 1:31am formerly known as the soundguy from the Court Tav:

This Little Wing is amazing; I've never heard a live version of this song
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 1:32am coelacanth∅:

and interesting Neil Young played after träden, who very definitely listens to Neil Young. (ie, cortez the killer)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 1:34am jj.:

yeah, i like this version way more than the hawks & doves version. neil didn't do too many new originals with the ducks, and there's a lot of meh ducks tunes on the compilations. definitely recommend this mix: aquariumdrunkard.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:34am Scraps:

I liked the Well, but it slowly, slowly died. (It probably still exists.)
  Tue. 9/25/18 1:35am Dean:

The Well was a pre-Internet (more precisely, pre-publicly available 'net) network located, I believe, in the Bay Area, that allowed its members to communicate remotely with each other. Hence, it was a proto-Internet/WWW. Instead of TCP/IP, it relied on ordinary twisted pair dial-up access.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:37am Scraps:

(I was there from 1986 to about 2002? Something like that.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 1:38am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Dean
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:41am Scraps:

It grew out of the Whole Earth Catalog (Whole Earth Lectronic Link)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:42am Scraps:

sorry, eLectronic
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:45am Scraps:

That’s my favorite Sun City Girls album
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 9/25/18 1:53am Scraps:

Now this works for me, for some reason (ac/dc)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/25/18 2:34am Aitch:
