Tony Coulter:
Hello, all! Today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes won't be easy to recognize, because so little is showing and the image is turned sideways -- so, I'll give you a hint: that's a bandaid floating on the upper right. Any guesses? Fabulous prizes await. |

![]() Hello Tony and listeners! My partial guess about the LP is that it is from the eighties, given the colors. |
![]() |
![]() Wow. This might be the third Psi-Field song I have ever heard. Such an elusive, perhaps least prolific band I've ever been interested in. I've only heard tracks by them on a handful of comps. |

Tue. 9/18/18 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:
Hiya, Yvang! You are right! It is from the '80s. It's a fairly well-known album by a U.S. new wave band. |

Tue. 9/18/18 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:
@ Rich: Not sure they ever had any releases -- just lots of comp tracks. |

coelacanth∅:
the 80s new wave. not my favorite. but i was inundated with it, so i know a lot of those album covers and the absurd, if not detestable band images. i don't have the waitresses though. i think i'd come to my senses by then. |

Tue. 9/18/18 12:42pm
Tony Coulter:
OK, I'll do the big reveal, then: It's 1983's "Bruiseology": www.discogs.com... |
![]() |
Tue. 9/18/18 12:43pm
Tony Coulter:
The Waitresses were really kind of a Tin Huey front band, and have their moments, imo. |
![]() |
Tue. 9/18/18 12:46pm
coelacanth∅:
yeah i had to look to see if maybe i did in fact buy "wasn't tomorrow wonderful" at the time. so, how were they related to tin huey? |
![]() |
Tue. 9/18/18 12:52pm
Tony Coulter:
@ coelacanth∅: At least several Tin Huey members, including Chris Butler and Ralph Carney, were in the Waitresses and wrote most of the music. |

![]() That's only the second anti-Dutch diss track I've ever heard, but it was a good'un. |
![]() |
Tue. 9/18/18 1:19pm
Tony Coulter:
What, pray tell, was the other one? |
![]() |
![]() Was it "The Dutch Have Weird Square Butts" by Aardvark Pie, Ltd.? |
![]() |
![]() (I just completely made that up.) |

Tue. 9/18/18 1:23pm

Dean:
I heard SPK pre-'84 at Al's Bar in Los Angeles. The bassist wore gloves. At one point, they wielded a garage door spring affixed with a contact mic, then proceeded to smash beer bottles against it as shards flew into the audience. A crusty noise experience.
Tue. 9/18/18 1:50pm
Dean:

@ Dean: I had a similar experience with the Cramps -- though it was the audience that was breaking glasses, sending the pieces flying around. |
Tue. 9/18/18 1:53pm
Dean:
My most vivid memory of the single Cramps show I attended is of a nearly nude Lux climbing the PA in high heels with a bottle of wine.

Chris from DC:
There's a noise artist Kimberly who still sometimes does her act where she smashes fluorescent tube lights. |

Tony Coulter:
Hiya, Webham! Are We Not Hamsters? |
![]() |
![]() I remember Lux doing one of those PA high-climbing stunts at Portland's La Luna and nearly toppling the stack, to the point that Ivy dropped character and gave him a startled look and then just shaking her head, as if to say 'oh, that Lux!'. |

NB: Yep, it's "Audio Leter," not "Audio Letter." Also, the trumpet player here is Lesli Dalaba, and the clarinetist is Paul Hoskin. |
