Hello, all! Today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes won't be easy to recognize, because so little is showing and the image is turned sideways -- so, I'll give you a hint: that's a bandaid floating on the upper right. Any guesses? Fabulous prizes await.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

Good Tuesday, Tony and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:01pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Sir James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:01pm Sem:

Wouldn't Mhiss thiss show.

Hello, TC, Listener James, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:01pm βrian:

Just arriving here from tomorrow where I thought you'd had your show yesterday. Ah ... never mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:02pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Sem and βrian! You're making my head spin....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:04pm βrian:

Say, is that an oblate spheroid on the cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:05pm Rich in Washington:

NO TREND!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Rich!

Hello Tony and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:12pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Psychspaniolos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:18pm Tony Coulter:

Kevyn Dymond (just on) sounds like a lapsed progger to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:19pm Tony Coulter:

Stay tuned for a krautrock cover, coming up next
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

PS: There will be more krautrock covers at the end of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:23pm Yvang:

Hello Tony and listeners! My partial guess about the LP is that it is from the eighties, given the colors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:24pm Rich in Washington:

Wow. This might be the third Psi-Field song I have ever heard. Such an elusive, perhaps least prolific band I've ever been interested in. I've only heard tracks by them on a handful of comps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Yvang! You are right! It is from the '80s. It's a fairly well-known album by a U.S. new wave band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:26pm Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: Not sure they ever had any releases -- just lots of comp tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:27pm coelacanth:

not the go-gos, is it?

...Hey Tony and hissters
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:27pm coelacanth:

("vacation" or something like that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:28pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, coelacanth! Not the Go-Gos, no -- but you're in the right ballpark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:28pm JtotheK:

hi Tony! hi everyone. enjoyed the express cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:29pm coelacanth:

i keep picturing the 3 dog night album with the bandaid on the front. goofy album cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:30pm Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, JtotheK! Stay tuned for two more krautrock covers at the end of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:32pm Tony Coulter:

Twa Dios Under Paris (on now) =
Aquatics Ever Tarnish, Floating Concrete Octopus, Qwa Digs Never Parish, Qwa Digs Under Paris's, Semantics Could Vanish, Twa Digs Under Paris, Twa Dogs in Paris, Wisconsin Conservatory Of Noise

... and consists of Elizabeth Was & Miekal And
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:34pm Tony Coulter:

One more hint about today's mystery LP artists: They know what boys like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:36pm JtotheK:

The Waitresses?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:37pm coelacanth:

heh i almost said the motels
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

@ JtotheK: Yep, it's the Waitresses! Name the album, and you will be today's lucky winner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:41pm coelacanth∅:

the 80s new wave. not my favorite. but i was inundated with it, so i know a lot of those album covers and the absurd, if not detestable band images. i don't have the waitresses though. i think i'd come to my senses by then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:42pm Tony Coulter:

OK, I'll do the big reveal, then: It's 1983's "Bruiseology": www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:43pm Tony Coulter:

The Waitresses were really kind of a Tin Huey front band, and have their moments, imo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:46pm coelacanth∅:

yeah i had to look to see if maybe i did in fact buy "wasn't tomorrow wonderful" at the time.
so, how were they related to tin huey?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 12:52pm Tony Coulter:

@ coelacanth∅: At least several Tin Huey members, including Chris Butler and Ralph Carney, were in the Waitresses and wrote most of the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:08pm Tony Coulter:

This P.W.B. track reminds me of the Department Store Santas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:12pm Tony Coulter:

Bernard C. (on now) is a D.D.A.A. associate -- he has several releases on D.D.A.A.'s Illusion Productions label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:16pm Ike:

This sounds great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:17pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:18pm listener james from westwood:

That's only the second anti-Dutch diss track I've ever heard, but it was a good'un.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

What, pray tell, was the other one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:23pm ɛɨk:

Was it "The Dutch Have Weird Square Butts" by Aardvark Pie, Ltd.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:23pm ɛɨk:

(I just completely made that up.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

Sounds like a hit to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:24pm ɛɨk:

Admit it, you guys just searched for some rare 7"s by Aardvark Pie, Ltd. on Discogs, didn't you?
  Tue. 9/18/18 1:26pm Dean:

The first, @ljfw, being John Dowie's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

Believe it or not, there was a '70s band called Hedgehog Pie ... close enough, no? www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:27pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy there, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:28pm Chris from DC:

Pleasantly surprised to find all this Ladd-Frith stuff on Bandcamp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:29pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Chris! Glad to hear it's still available in some format.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:31pm Yvang:

Lots of interesting stereo effects with this cassette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:33pm Tony Coulter:

Particularly this track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:37pm Sem:

Following right along from the kitchen w/ great aural pleasure.
FYI, Mhisster Tony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:38pm Tony Coulter:

Nice to know, Sssssssssssssssssem!
  Tue. 9/18/18 1:49pm Dean:

I heard SPK pre-'84 at Al's Bar in Los Angeles. The bassist wore gloves. At one point, they wielded a garage door spring affixed with a contact mic, then proceeded to smash beer bottles against it as shards flew into the audience. A crusty noise experience.
  Tue. 9/18/18 1:50pm Dean:

Looks like the show made it to cassette: https://www.discogs.com/SPK-Als-Bar/release/1436271
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:50pm Chris from DC:

This is great.
  Tue. 9/18/18 1:51pm Dean:

And chronicled on the WFMU blog: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2012/05/spk-in-the-usa-part-two-at-the-russian-center-sf-april-17-1982.html
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:52pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: I had a similar experience with the Cramps -- though it was the audience that was breaking glasses, sending the pieces flying around.
  Tue. 9/18/18 1:53pm Dean:

My most vivid memory of the single Cramps show I attended is of a nearly nude Lux climbing the PA in high heels with a bottle of wine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:53pm Chris from DC:

There's a noise artist Kimberly who still sometimes does her act where she smashes fluorescent tube lights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:54pm Webhamster Henry:

This is so 1984.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Webham! Are We Not Hamsters?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 2:15pm Rich in Washington:

I remember Lux doing one of those PA high-climbing stunts at Portland's La Luna and nearly toppling the stack, to the point that Ivy dropped character and gave him a startled look and then just shaking her head, as if to say 'oh, that Lux!'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 2:25pm Tony Coulter:

NB: Yep, it's "Audio Leter," not "Audio Letter." Also, the trumpet player here is Lesli Dalaba, and the clarinetist is Paul Hoskin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 2:36pm Tony Coulter:

Tex Mirror H (on now) is In the Nursery–related
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 2:47pm Chris from DC:

Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/18/18 2:58pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Tony!
