An interesting and informative discussion about time and the future: https://iai.tv/video/back-from-the-end-of-time

Ironically, you can only view 20 minutes of the ~40-minute video if you aren't a paying customer. After 20, I went back in time, opened another browser, advanced to the 20-minute mark, and viewed the rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 12:16pm doctorjazz:

Hey, arrived with my jet pack! Hi!
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 12:19pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh heh, Dean, you time traveler!

Wow. That Doldinger was released two years before the first Passport album.

@Jeff G.: The theoretical physicist in the video notes the "special" quality of our experience of the present versus the past or the future. I say speak for yourself, Mr. Theoretical Physicist.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 12:41pm Carmichael:

That Cornershop was awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 12:42pm coelacanth∅:

finally this song sounds truly devilish

Howdy maestroso!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 12:56pm coelacanth∅:

i'm so glad i didn't turn this off right away, which i almost did!
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 12:58pm Mary Wing:

What, you don't like Bad Lip Reading, coela??
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:03pm coelacanth∅:

i've never heard of "bad lip reading", but it starts with cheesy synthesizer, which i have low tolerance for; then i heard some rapping, which i'm very selective about. if i wasn't laying down across the room i would've turned it off, but as i said i'm glad i didn't. that was fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:05pm Jeff Golick:

Bad Lip Reading is amazing. I came to it via their NFL stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:06pm coelacanth∅:

is that what they do? satire/mockery? if so i will check them out further.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:07pm coelacanth∅:

(...and general silliness, which was hilarious!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:20pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mary! I have a steno training record set somewhere. It's interesting to hear the business language and the pricing!
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 1:22pm Mary Wing:

Hi Henry! I just noticed that Dictation Disc Company was auto-filling in the Label section on the playlist, which means someone else has played them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:28pm Carmichael:

Looks like Kurt Gottschalk is also a Dictation Disc fan!
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 1:29pm Mary Wing:

Oh, he just would, wouldn't he?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:41pm Jeff Golick:

Oh, one more re Bad Lip Reading: their Beyonce "La Fway" is worth a look.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:42pm JakeGould:

Hey Mary! How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:42pm Webhamster Henry:

I hope that guy was satisfied with his defective rug or got a new one.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 1:43pm Mary Wing:

Hi Jake! Happy Wednesday to you!
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 1:44pm Mary Wing:

La Fway is brilliant, so is Carl Poppa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:44pm JakeGould:

Indeed, what a craptacular Wednesday this weather is! The clouds in NY/NJ are all screwy and moving in crazy directions (like North) which they shouldn’t be doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:45pm βrian:

Why, it's a stunningly beautiful day on the isthmus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:46pm JakeGould:

@βrian: I liked days like those when I loved out in Madison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:48pm Carmichael:

Denver got hit by thunderstorms on Monday, which screwed up my air travel. I had to sit in the San Diego airport drinking $11 beers and listening to hundreds of pissed off travelers, along with the various and goofy Comic Con stragglers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:50pm Carmichael:

@Jake, if you see a giant Sta-Puf marshmallow man walking down the street, you're screwed ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:51pm βrian:

Oh, for the love of a comma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:55pm βrian:

I remember once having 11 dollar-beers. Quantity if not quality, don't you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:57pm JakeGould:

I have nicknames for places like that:
$10 beer place.
$7 toast place.
$5 taco place.
  Wed. 7/25/18 1:57pm geezerette:

Hola,Mary and assorted!
It will be 120 street melting degrees in Palm Springs today. We'll be unpleasantly cool in L.A. at a mere 103. Humid too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 1:59pm Carmichael:

@geez, it's 105 today here in Sacramento. I feel your pain.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 1:59pm Mary Wing:

Hola Geezerette! Humidity is what kills me.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:00pm ?:

Carm! Soggy solidarity,brother!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:02pm JakeGould:

My only hope on crappy weather days like this is that I can get cheap end-of-day deals on baked goods at the farmer’s market when I leave work.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:03pm geezerette:

Mary, exactly. It's like wearing a sweater that's welded to your skin.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:04pm geezerette:

Jake, I like your attitude!
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:04pm Mary Wing:

Heh. A disturbing mental image, but yes, exactly.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:06pm geezerette:

Mary, or, like a giant invisible dog, panting over your city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:09pm βrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:09pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:13pm βrian:

"Sticky"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:14pm doctorjazz:

Ahhh, always loved this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 7/25/18 2:15pm Sem:

Whew, just in time for Vriations of a Costello theme.

Hi, Mary, the 100%, and those in neither category.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:17pm βrian:

"Sticky"?
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:18pm Mary Wing:

Hey Sem, just in time!

Sticky fingers, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:18pm doctorjazz:

Jazzy, dig them chord substitutions from Rezende.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:19pm βrian:

It's "fickle valentines," as I recall.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:19pm Mary Wing:

I thought it was sticky valentines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:22pm βrian:

Maybe it is. I still prefer fickle. Or even pickle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:27pm coelacanth∅:

i think brandon boyd's is the best so far. better than the original in fact. (though i didn't hear marcelo rezende's, having fled from the sax abuse in Ronstadt's version and not coming back in time)
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:28pm geezerette:

Pretty piano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:29pm doctorjazz:

Like her voice too.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:30pm Mary Wing:

My money's on Tracey Thorn.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:33pm βrian:

Swat that drum!
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:33pm geezerette:

Ronstadt is my favorite, if there can even be that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

swat that drum machine
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:35pm coelacanth∅:

i like this one too (despite the inorganics of it)
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:35pm Mary Wing:

Sampled horn always tickles me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:37pm coelacanth∅:

ugh
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:41pm geezerette:

Mary, always love the versions of one song you do. I used to do that on spotify, you learn so much that way; comparing artists and infinite choices made by all the people putting the recording together.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:42pm Dean:

Whoops, almost read that as Jesus and Mary Chain. Come to think of it, they'd deliver a nice cover, too.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:42pm Mary Wing:

Indeed, geezerette! I have discovered many new artists by searching for covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 7/25/18 2:44pm Roberto:

Apparently there are one or two Alison cover versions out there.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:44pm Mary Wing:

Just one or two, Roberto...
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:45pm Mary Wing:

Hi Dean! I wish JAMC would do a cover of anything, actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 7/25/18 2:45pm Sem:

hahaha, Mary. The Swingles!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 7/25/18 2:45pm Roberto:

I'll bet there are more covers of Making Plans for Nigel than of Alison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:46pm Jeff Golick:

But not two ells in Alison.

JAMC do a Bo Diddley cover, I think? And maybe a Beach Boys tune?
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:46pm geezerette:

It's particularly fun to hear them one after another. When I love a song, want to learn as much as possible about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:47pm coelacanth∅:

somewhere out in internet world i still have a youboob account with a playlist called "snowflakes" with every at least somewhat relevant version i could find of hey joe; wimoweh/lion sleeps tonight; louie louie; & ...i don't remember the 4th one.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:47pm Dean:

And Can! (That I did not know until I just examined the Barbed Wire Kisses tracks.)
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:49pm Dean:

Bo Diddley, Blossom Dearie, Bob Dylan...
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:49pm Mary Wing:

And JAMC did the Cramps' New Kind Of Kick, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:50pm Webhamster Henry:

I think there's a connection between Blossom and the Swingles...Ahah!
Dearie moved to Paris in 1952. She formed a vocal group, the Blue Stars (1952–1955),[1][5] which included Michel Legrand's sister, Christiane, and Bob Dorough. In 1954 the group had a hit in France with a French-language version of "Lullaby of Birdland",[1] arranged by Michel Legrand.[6] The Blue Stars would later evolve into The Swingle Singers.[6] On her first solo album, released two years later, she played the piano but did not sing.[4]

100% remarkable set as always! Thanks, Mary!
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:51pm geezerette:

Coel, it's so much fun!

Love Blossom Dearie. Would have been great hearing her in a club.
Avatar Wed. 7/25/18 2:51pm Mary Wing:

Hello David and the Ridgewood crew!
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:51pm Dean:

Hmm, yes, and a Prince track and one by Shane McGowan.
  Wed. 7/25/18 2:53pm geezerette:

Great show,Mary, always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:57pm coelacanth∅:

g, the only song i've done that with on spotify is tomorrow never knows. i was truly surprised how many covers of that are actually really good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 2:59pm coelacanth∅:

i think it's "sticky". Thanks Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 3:00pm βrian:

Oh, crap. Sticky it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 7/25/18 3:00pm coelacanth∅:
