@LJFW
Pretty much everywhere we look. And the water is varying shades of azure, aqua, turquoise, etc. Otherworldly!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 9:44am Jeff Ash:

Greetings from work, Larry! Missed the first set, but coming in with Bob Seger, so that's cool.

This one is grating my cheese but good. What a sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 9:47am Funky16Corners:

This was actually a pretty big regional hit in Detroit/Ohio/Ontario
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 9:50am doctorjazz:

Lots of "Nuggets" type stuff too, liked that Midnight Hour.
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 9:51am Jeff Ash:

Heard that Cherry Slush cut on XM not too long ago. Cool song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 9:51am Funky16Corners:

This is all the kind of stuff that made up the Nuggets/Pebbles/Back From the Grave/Boulders etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 9:51am Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - On Underground Garage?
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 9:55am Jeff Ash:

Yes, on Underground Garage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 9:55am Funky16Corners:

Cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 9:59am Funky16Corners:

This pre-dates the Monkees version. Produced by Boyce and Hart
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:07am northguineahills:

Hola Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:08am Funky16Corners:

Hey NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:14am doctorjazz:

Odd to hear Doors covered. Haven't heard many (aside from Light My Fire).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:15am Funky16Corners:

Yeah, this is unusual, too. The flip side of this is a cover of a Motown tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:19am northguineahills:

Was at work until 11pm last night painting/cleaning, finishing annual report.. got back here by 9am after seeing my friend's show and getting to bed at 2ish... same old...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:20am Funky16Corners:

Hopefully this stuff will help keep you awake (I also recommend coffee).
  Fri. 7/20/18 10:36am Doug Schulkind:

All hail the garagejanglefuzzthang!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 10:37am Jeff Ash:

Ha! Wisconsin represents! BTW, Emery and I were just chatting about Wayne Cochran the other day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:37am dutchtheo:

Great set Larry, Yasou Doug, Mezze & Ouzo time, i bet. We have a mediterranean climate here for weeks now and with a heatwave forecast for next week. So beer time here, sorry western hemisphereans, enjoy your coffee...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:37am Funky16Corners:

I think I have another cover of that one in he crates somewhere, by another midwestern band
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:40am Funky16Corners:

Thanks Theo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:40am northguineahills:

Moog me, I'm a simple person!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:49am doctorjazz:

Now this Dylan tune has many covers; can't think of a bad one (including this one)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:50am Funky16Corners:

Yeah, great song, excellent for folk rock bands
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:53am Marc Francis:

DAMN. This is fun Larry! ALL of this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:53am doctorjazz:

Early Beefheart, pretty much still a bluesman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:54am Funky16Corners:

Thanks Marc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 10:54am Funky16Corners:

@Doc - Yeah, you can hear him in there, constrained by rock and roll but waiting to break free
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:09am Funky16Corners:

Don't forget to stay tuned at noon when Uncle Michael arrives with Hinky Dinky Time! wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:15am Brian in UK:

Hello Larry, you got a witness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:15am Funky16Corners:

Hey Brian!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:16am Jeff Ash:

When they sing "Louise," it sounds like that Cherry Slush song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:17am Funky16Corners:

That was originally done by a guy named Keith Allison who was a regular with the Raiders on Where the Action Is. I think the Raiders used the same backing track
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:18am Brian in UK:

Larry, great to hear you in real time. Archives are good but you cannot help but looking at what is next up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:18am doctorjazz:

I used to watch the Paul Revere and the Raiders show in the afternoon, dates me I guess. (Where the Action Is)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:20am Funky16Corners:

Thanks Brian! I'm glad you could make it live!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:21am Funky16Corners:

@Doc - I wish I had been old enough to see Action. They r=did remotes from all over the country and had all kinds of obscure acts on. I've seen some wild clips.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:23am coelacanth∅:

'morning Larry & savage reverbians
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:23am Funky16Corners:

Hey C!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:23am Uncle Michael:

If you're not all completely spent from giving testimony, hang in there for Hinky Dinky Time at the top of the hour. I'd appreciate your company.

www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:23am Brian in UK:

The Spirit of 67 got me thinking of Spirit's Spirit of 76. A great double album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:23am Funky16Corners:

I'd buy that!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:24am ndbob:

Heya Larry and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:25am doctorjazz:

Yeah, I used to like it though at a certain point they became "unhip", as the psychedelic age came.
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:25am ndbob:

I used to watch where the action is all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:25am Funky16Corners:

Hey ndbob!
  Fri. 7/20/18 11:27am Doug Schulkind:

This is supposed to be our siesta, Larry. (Like Spain and Italy, Greece pretty much shuts down from 3-7pm to chillax during the high heat.) But instead, I am blasting this spectacular episode of Testify!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:27am ndbob:

Heya Doug
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:28am Funky16Corners:

Believe or not, Doug, my 1980s garage band The Phantom Five got played on college radio in Greece. There might be some aged fans around.
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:28am ndbob:

looks like I will have to catch what I missed on the archive
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:30am ndbob:

never knew the sonics covered this
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:30am Uncle Michael:

Larry was with Joe Cocker in the Greece Band?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:30am Funky16Corners:

Only during the Mad Spanikopita and Crete-men Tour
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:31am northguineahills:

@Doug: If work isn't killing me, I siesta when possible. Even my Mexi wife doesn't do it (and it's no longer practiced in Mexico, but I feel it's a keen idea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:32am Brian in UK:

I think that our glorious leader will be so relaxed that he cannot lift a stylus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:32am Funky16Corners:

@ndbob - It's late period Sonics and I'm not sure who's singing. It's not Gerry Roslie
  Fri. 7/20/18 11:33am Doug Schulkind:

The only Greeks within earshot of this gasser of a show are a few goats, one gorgeous all-black heifer, and a bazillion blue-tailed lizards. As you would expect, the lizards are digging the shit out of your selections.

Howdy, ndbob!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:36am ndbob:

@Larry I figured - would never have guessed that was them
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:36am Uncle Michael:

I'd like a heavy-pounder with cheese. In Greece that's called a Feta Royale.
  Fri. 7/20/18 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

@NGH
Americans are too butt-stupid to ever become acculturated to practicing siesta.
  Fri. 7/20/18 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

The inevitability of ordering one of those is a feta complete.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:40am Uncle Michael:

There you go with another one of your dolmas puns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:41am Funky16Corners:

@Doug - Lizards are a big section of my constituency
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:43am ndbob:

same group the last two songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:43am Funky16Corners:

Yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:45am Brian in UK:

Is this group name a Dr. Who pun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:46am Funky16Corners:

I doubt it. Rochester, NY 1966. I don't think the Tardis had landed stateside yet
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:47am ndbob:

Remains!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:47am Funky16Corners:

One of the best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:48am Uncle Michael:

I think that red vinyl Remains reissue in the early '80s put them on our generation's map.
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:48am ndbob:

yep - oneof the best major label 60s lps
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:49am ndbob:

I do remember reading about them in the 60s but never heard them then
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:50am Uncle Michael:

I was learning to read in the '60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:50am doctorjazz:

Listening to this (struck me during the Remains track), I get the sense The Who were really into this stuff (rather than the blues many bands there cut teeth on)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:51am northguineahills:

Thanks Larry!! Enjoy the weekend!
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:51am ndbob:

a british group that wasn't british
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:51am Funky16Corners:

Thanks NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:51am Uncle Michael:

Maximum R'n'B, baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:52am Funky16Corners:

@Doc - There's a pretty clear line down the middle of the British Invasion betrween bands that were obsessed with Chess blues and bands that du American soul and R&B. The Beatles did a bunch of soul covers early on.
Avatar Fri. 7/20/18 11:52am ndbob:

excellent show Larry - will be back a little later
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:53am Funky16Corners:

Thanks ndbob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:54am Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the fine show, Larry. See you all in a bit.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/20/18 11:56am Brian in UK:

I believe that the Beatles covered 'Leave my Kitten Alone'.
Great selections, Larry.
