H y'all thxx fer luissenenein. Last Sunday night slot! Moving to Tuesday afternoon from 3pm - 6pm (Brian Turner's old slot). Starts THIS Tuesday. Tonight I'm closing out w/ all live stuff from one of my all-time favorite bands.
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 10:28pm JakeGould:

Congrats on the promotion, Creamo! Now, for a second I thought Nick Cave (the musician) was dead. Good to hear otherwise.
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 10:32pm Creamo Coyl:

Ha, don't mean to scare anyone! I'm just a figure of FUN!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/3/18 10:32pm Aitch:

I saw Birthday Party a few weeks after I started university in 1983 at UNSW (Sydney Australia). Support band were the Scientists. Just stunning live, never quite got over that one. Closest thing he does to that now is his Grinderman project, but that not nearly so scary.
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 10:36pm Creamo Coyl:

Scientists finally coming to the US this fall, so I guess that's sumpin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/3/18 10:39pm Aitch:

It was every junkie goth in Sydney and about 3 actual students in the crowd. Downright frightening, but unlike anything I've seen or heard since. Nick the Stripper indeed. Scientists live will be brilliant, enjoy.
Avatar 🎃 Sun. 6/3/18 10:39pm herb.nyc:

Neato show, very "you are there". As for the Scientists, are they playing Union Pool in Brooklyn?
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 10:44pm Creamo Coyl:

Yeah 2 shows in October.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/3/18 10:50pm Aitch:

Roland S Howard has a younger brother. Plays with some other underground Oz legends as Harry Howard and The NDE, worth a look too.
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:15pm Stevel:

Are there any books to recommend on Nick Cave, B-Day Party or Australia in general?
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 11:16pm Creamo Coyl:

The Birthday Party & Other Adventures is great.
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:17pm Stevel:

Cool, thanks! What year is this recording? (Perhaps you already mentioned it.)
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:18pm rw:

Yo! Happy Birthday! And congrats on the promotion!
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 11:21pm Creamo Coyl:

@Stevel These are from all different years. 79-83.
@rw Thank you! Hopefully you can tune in at the new time.

The Birthday Party! Congrats on your move, them big shoes to fill, but you're the show to do it.
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 11:27pm Creamo Coyl:

Preesh, Ovsi! just call me DJ Shoefiller...
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:27pm Stevel:

Good, God, that bass sound!
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:33pm rw:

Ha! I was just about to say them's big shoes to fill but osvi beat me to it.
Daytime slots are tougher for me but I'm sure I'll catch at least bits and pieces here and there. Who knows, maybe I'll get in a terrible accident and be bedridden with my WFMU app!
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 11:38pm Creamo Coyl:

Careful what you wish for!

Catch it in the archives...TiVo that shit.
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:41pm andrewb:

  Sun. 6/3/18 11:43pm andrewb:

  Sun. 6/3/18 11:44pm rw:

No, not wishing for a horrible accident. That's just my dumb sense of humor.

Enjoying the Party!
  Sun. 6/3/18 11:45pm rw:

What's in this Birthday cake anyway?
Avatar Sun. 6/3/18 11:46pm Creamo Coyl:

Don't mind me. Just projecting my own particular sense of impending doom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/3/18 11:48pm Aitch:

Jeff Conklin's Greatful Dead jams gonna sound a bit pale after this onslaught.
Sun. 6/3/18 11:48pm Derek in Midwood:

Always thought Phill Calvert got a raw deal. He was a founding member of the BP and drums on all their best recordings, as soon as they fired him they rapidly went down hill. As the old saying goes you ain't shit without a good drummer , like other great punk/ post punk band's drummers (Clash and the DK's first album) he had that jazz ability, Prayers On Fire and Junk Yard really clearly illustrate his brilliance. As soon as he was gone they were bad mouthing him in the press saying his drumming wasn't up to par and he wasn't getting the new tunes. But in my opinion it was the tunes that weren't up to snuff. If memory serves me in 1982 he wrote a letter to John Peel apologizing for the poor quality of the tunes on their lately recorded session which had gone out a week earlier, it was tunes that were eventually released on the Bad Seed ep. Peel bless his cotton socks read the letter out on the air, a week later Phil was gone from The BP, but much to my amazement another week after that he was drumming with the Psychedelic Furs on the Old Grey Whistle Test. They were promoting the release of their third alum. He'd gone from one favorite band to another in the space of a couple of weeks! Though in retrospect for me both bands had already peaked and were on the down slope. While Mick Harvey is a fine musician he is not a great drummer and The BP never hit the heady heights they had achieved on their first three LPs , incl Boys Next Door. Funny reading the message board above Scientists are playing Union Pool in October and Nick Cave is playing Barclays Centre, wonder if they're opening for him? Thanks for the tunes Creamo, loving this show and good luck in the new slot.

Whoa that's a long one but yes Calverrt DID get a raw deal. Great drummer. Will read rest in a minute! ha.

I think you may have hit on a formula to get every song on the playlist clicky-starred (by me, anyhow).

You made me worry!!. When I look at a playlist and there's only one artist, it used to be an obituary show.
