Evening, Jesse and all! In for the toads!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm
Doug Schulkind:

Hullo, neighbor!
Avatar 7:02pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi James! I'm a sucker for toads in general but when you throw large bells in it's a can't miss.

Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Howdy Doug!
Avatar 7:04pm
TDK60:

Toads and a deep but subtle bell; I'm almost there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm
northguineahills:

last week i got some recordings of some percussive phase-shifting frogs in a swamp. I should send you the recordings.......

melinda:

hi neighbors
Avatar 7:09pm
TDK60:

..used to live near a country pond with Spring Peeper toads. Sometimes sleighbell-like, other times flutelike; noisy, &/or hypnotic.
Avatar 7:09pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey TDK60! Hi northguineahills! Hi melinda!

Hi Jesse and fellow listeners!

Hi chresti!
Avatar 7:12pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@northguineahills, please do! Those are the sounds I'm chasing!
Avatar 7:12pm
TDK60:

NGH, I bet in Florida you have many animal sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
chresti:

just have crickets, escaped parrots and coyotes here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
chresti:

went to jamaica in the 90s- there was some creatures that made a very loud sizzling sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
northguineahills:

The bugs, frogs, and birds are omnipresent in the aural ambiance here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
chresti:

Riding in a left-side taxi on a 2 lane road at night, with the windows open- it sounded like we were driving thru a sizzling frying pan
Avatar 7:35pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

cicadas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
chresti:

I think so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
northguineahills:

Rubaiyats of the Cicadas (ROTC) is the name of my band in NYC. We haven't officially broke up, but it's kind of hard to play together right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
chresti:

The road we were on had tall grass on either side... like that, except it was a steady sizzle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
northguineahills:

Driving through the Blue Mountains in Jamaica is an amazing experience! (Stayed at a friend's place in Port Antonio for NYE 2000)
Avatar 7:44pm
TDK60:

JK: Have you ever heard/played human banter from concerts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
chresti:

NGH did you get coffee?
Avatar 7:50pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@TDK, do you mean like stage banter or audience banter? I don't think I've actually played either but would probably play general audience banter even if not at a concert
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
northguineahills:

Were actually staying at my friend's aunt's place up in the hills overlooking where the Blue Lagoon was shot. They had a live-in cook and groundskeeper. So, the cook gave us some Blue Mountain coffee. It was darn good!
Avatar 7:54pm
TDK60:

Jesse, just the sound of people in-between songs, before/after the show, not the musicians; crowds of various sizes and time-spaces.
Avatar 7:57pm
TDK60:

I'll keep me ears open for such. //One funny example just came: on VU's "Live, Max's Kansas City" you hear a couple talking about Nixon.
Avatar 7:58pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

I've played a track from this record of announcer/crowd/car noise at a speedway: ashinternational.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm

we had fire flies in Illinois - I liked to catch them

hi all~ :)
Avatar 8:15pm
TDK60:

..was it wise-guy John Cage who 1st recorded audience sounds then played it back onstage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
northguineahills:

@TDK60: Cage's Variations was first recorded live at LA's Getty Museum where he recorded people in various different rooms and played that back in other rooms w/ David Tudor mixing all of the input and output channels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
chresti:

Were people aware they were being recorded?
Avatar 8:25pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey gloomsday!
  8:25pm
still b/p:

Must check toad opener later. Got a nice pretty close toad pic on a mountain trail yesterday, but it wasn’t talking. The message... the wisdom... was silence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
chresti:

There's never silence for me!
Avatar 8:27pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi still b/p! The toad opener will not disappoint!
Avatar 8:30pm
TDK60:

yeah b/p: "Fire-bellied toads and Geonbongsa large bell" is climbing the WFMU charts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
chresti:

I think the cicadas in JA gave me permanent tinnitus
  8:33pm
still b/p:

“Fire bellied toads” is a nice exclamation, of the “jumpin’ jehosaphat” or “ holy mackerel” or “leapin’ lizards” variety.
  8:35pm
Dave in Vermont on the phone:

This reminds me of Oliveros et al in the cistern, this is much more raucous though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
northguineahills:

@chresti: I believe they were aware. For those who weren't, it would become apparent rather quickly.
Avatar 8:40pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Dave! yeah, similar acoustical droniness
