Actually when I used to live in NY, a movie theater I used to go in the West Village moved to Watt Street. I had never been there so I asked a policeman if he could tell me where Watt Street was. Abbott and Costello ensued.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
coelacanth∅:

sounds good to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Sem:

I dug graves for a couple of years when I moved to a little village here. Maybe fifteen or twenty a year. Talk about an entree to village society! Everybody wanted to know the dirt: how many floral tributes, what kind of caskets (i.e. cheap or expensive), how many mourners, how many cars in the procession... got couple of good stories out of the experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Brian in UK:

@coel sorry for dropping the baton, had to feed the cats.

Go see Modu Moctar if you get the chance.

Driving the dumper truck was the best bit for me in the cemetery.
There is a lovely Ron Sexsmith song called 'Pretty Little Cemetery'.

Bill you will not regret it. Stanley and I saw him at Cafe Oto. The thing that impressed me most was that he never looked at his guitar or hardly ever. He just knew what he was doing.

@Bill: Mdou Moctar is great live, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I hope he'll do some of his quieter stuff too, he's amazing with just his guitar and light percussion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
coelacanth∅:

i really enjoyed working at the cemetery usually. i learned groundskeeping, machine maintenance, how to drive a snow plough, tractor, & backhoe, and quite a bit about jewish culture.
- and learned to drive a stick on a truck, which is more robust so i never ruined a clutch. (& haven't to this day)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm

I know this sounds obvious but it is very peaceful place to work.

I like this Cut Chemist track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm

heh,true! quite peaceful.
the place i worked at had amazing plum blossom and dogwood trees...and no headstones, just plaques at ground level; so looking across it it just looked like a beautiful park.

(that was)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm

...and yet when "bittersweet symphony" came out i never once heard an obvious sample of a rolling stones song. even after i knew it was in there it wasn't obvious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Brian in UK:

Was it the Rollings Stones Orchestra with Loog Oldham? So no original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
fred:

The first time I saw Chocolat Billy (they opened for Deerhoof a dozen years ago) I bought their LP. I didn't have a working turntable at the time, but it was the kick in the ass I needed to fix that
Avatar 1:57pm
Bill Mac:

Wow, they've been around the block a few times....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
coelacanth∅:

Brian yeah it wasn't even the 'stones version. shit head, overrated andrew loog oldham orchestra version of a song that the 'stones basically stole in the first place. then scumbag who had no creative part in it at all allen klein is the one who started the trouble so to get all the royalties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

...i guess that's why i didn't recognise it. it wasn't the rolling stones' "last time" at all.

My records are set up in three parts: people I've seen live, people I haven't, and WFMU premiums. The last one is the only one that is ordered, according to the current schedule (off schedule is a mess). I like it that way, it helps me pull off something I forgot about when looking for something else. I try to randomize it regularly, but I'm running out of shelf space
