Burl Ives, famous folks singer during the cold war revival!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:11pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good evening. How do vodou?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:12pm melinda:

Burl Ives and the actress who played Aunt Bea were my mom's 2 celebrity sightings while working at Duke Hospital in the 60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:12pm kimzilla:

haha Greg, So Colonel Sanders lookin' Snow Man is not the proper title?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:13pm Jeff Moore:

@queems: I don't hear that. Yeah, must be a ghost in your machine.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:13pm Emily:

@Linda Lee: oh is that the connection? Haunt=haunt?? That’s interesting—that actually makes a lot of sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:13pm Linda Lee:

negative connotations come from racism. period.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:13pm Linda Lee:

i always thought so, Emily ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:13pm Jeff Moore:

@melinda: You mean it isn't spelled "Aint Bea"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:14pm kimzilla:

A haint in your hard drive, the new gremlin.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:15pm Emily:

@Linda Lee: truth. Because if you can make a culture’s important beliefs look evil or scary or even silly, it’s another way to discount the culture and place its members on the fringe of society. Another way to discriminate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:15pm melinda:

@Jeff haha
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:16pm Kate:

what can heal you can also harm you...true for all medical practices
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:17pm Emily:

@melinda: how cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:17pm Linda Lee:

@emily ~ yes. dehumanizing the 'other' is also essential for colonialism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:17pm kimzilla:

@Ken, I keep wanting to put vodou in different sentences now. Vodou want me to share some examples?
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:17pm Emily:

@queems are you sure it ISN’T a tiny man trying to get out?
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:18pm Greg from ZONE 5:

First I ever heard the word was in “Haunted House” by Jumpin’ Gene Simmons.
“Ain’t no haints gonna run me off”
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:18pm kimzilla:

Oh you Irish folks!
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:19pm Emily:

Passive aggressively sticking pins into dolls that look like your enemies? Yeah, that sounds like us...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:20pm Linda Lee:

pretty unsophisticated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:20pm JakeGould:

In the spirit of American media really pushing stereotypes, I present to you the Little Rascals classic, “The Kid from Boreno”…

youtu.be...

That said… “Yum! Yum! EAT EM UP!!!”
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:21pm Linda Lee:

i still remember that damn thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:21pm ultradamno:

Maggie used one on Milhouse last week.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:21pm Emily:

Yes, but VERY Catholic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:21pm Linda Lee:

sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:22pm Linda Lee:

this is wonderful. so great to hear Dowati Desir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:22pm JakeGould:

FWIW, Jews have a history of writing prayers in tiny scrolls and putting them somewhere. For example, the Mezuzah. It’s basically a tiny, hidden prayer scroll on a doorway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:23pm kimzilla:

there are some weird little glitches coming through that were not part of the original recordings, there are in fact haints in the hard drive!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:23pm JakeGould:

And Japanese culture has deep respect for objects. So much so there are temples for dolls and such. But nobody really demonizes that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:23pm Linda Lee:

interesting! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:23pm ultradamno:

Doesn't that sort of how Golems work as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:25pm ultradamno:

Inserting tiny scrolls with instructions, that is..
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:25pm Richard S:

Golems are human-like constructs that have the "name of God" (the "Tetragrammaton") written on a speciallly prepared piece of paper and then placed in their mouth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:25pm melinda:

Haints in the Hard Drive could be the follow-up to Ghost in the Machine.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:25pm Ghoffman:

where is this woman located, i want to meet her and learn
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:25pm Emily:

@melinda hahaha!
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:26pm Emily:

I have always been SO fascinated with the Golem. I love cultural elements like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:28pm kimzilla:

@Ghoffman, here is her main website. There is contact info there. www.ati-global.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:30pm Linda Lee:

very beautiful woman.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:30pm Bobby:

You need five more interviews with her!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:31pm Linda Lee:

what for? dehumanizing human beings enables their exploitation as industry resources.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:33pm Kate:

I love the transition music for this piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:33pm Richard S:

A transcript of this interview would be more than welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:34pm Linda Lee:

her book has got to be great to read.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:35pm JakeGould:

Well, Passover is pretty dark and spooky. Lamb’s blood on doors to protect kids from death? The plagues are basically curses. There’s a lot of creepy spiritualism in mainstream religions.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:36pm Emily:

@thanks, Kate! That’s Kim’s work :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:36pm common:

man, she is wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:36pm kimzilla:

Funny, Richard S, there was a listener that offered his services of transcribing our episodes, but I didn't know how that would be helpful... until this request!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:37pm Linda Lee:

there's no reason to think an alien culture exceptionally ridiculous and/or wicked unless there's a vested interest in 'othering'.. & the vested interests are mainly capitalistic.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:38pm Emily:

@Linda Lee that is a really excellent point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:38pm Linda Lee:

(never mind enforcing dominion over all creation as a 'blessed' endeavor!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:39pm ultradamno:

@JakeGould much of them artlessly co-opted from pre-xtian religions in the process of overtaking them (making them creeper still)
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:40pm Kate:

The abolition of petition prayer, that would be very helpful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:40pm Linda Lee:

no kiddin!
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:40pm Emily:

ultradamno: right? So many things taken from Pagan religions present in Christianity, no?
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:41pm Emily:

@Kate what do you mean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:41pm Linda Lee:

@Emily ~ who really thinks eggs & rabbits have anything to do with the Blessed Virgin? ask the goddess Ishtar! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:41pm ultradamno:

No elves or house trees in the bible.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:41pm JakeGould:

I have loopy family members who on one breath will be amazed by the galaxy, and the next cursing efforts to search for extraterrestrial life since that would trigger an alien invasion.

Anyway, E.T. is one of the few films to portray aliens as friendly and kind. Otherwise“aliens” are the “others” and must be killed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:42pm kimzilla:

This is crazy right, that shark migrations changed due to the bodies dropping off the slave ships. I heard the same story about vultures and the Civil War.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:42pm Emily:

@Linda Lee: haha exactly!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:42pm Richard S:

Emily, the usual rationale is that the early Church fathers, when they were trying to convert people, figured that an easy way to do it would be to adopt and adapt their traditions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:42pm Linda Lee:

@kimzilla ~ makes sense if you understand why animals migrate.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:43pm Emily:

@Richard, oh yes, I think I have heard that!
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:45pm Greg from ZONE 5:

If all evidence of Christianity was wiped out tomorrow, we would still continue to throw big solstice parties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:47pm kimzilla:

Doesn't all of this just make sense. It's crazy how misunderstood their religion is, it's quite thoughtful and nature focused.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:47pm Kate:

@Emily: Her idea that god is what connects us, not a separate being that saves us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:48pm kimzilla:

@Kate Right?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:48pm Linda Lee:

very dangerous concepts.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:49pm Emily:

@Kate ah yes! I LOVE that.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:49pm Emily:

@Kate THAT I can get with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:50pm Linda Lee:

so she's in the catskills! ground zero in the fight to retain potable water systems against hydrofracking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:51pm Linda Lee:

is that right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:51pm kimzilla:

Yes, she is in Wappingers Falls, NY
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:52pm Linda Lee:

lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:52pm ultradamno:

Plus, with rising sea levels we all may have to make like Van Vliet and grow fins soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:53pm Linda Lee:

hudson valley technically ~ but our concerns are the same regionally.
  Wed. 4/25/18 7:54pm Kate:

the breadth of her knowledge is extraordinary
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:55pm Richard S:

It's so cool to see people who are so wonderfully *comfortable* with their faith that they can have a sense of humor with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:56pm Linda Lee:

at this stage of our species' existence we'd really best have a spiritual life of some kind, individually. strict materialism is killing us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:57pm Smokestack:

This was fascinating :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:58pm melinda:

FMU lunch table discussions sound fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The toxins from spiders, snakes and such have some amazing properties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:58pm Linda Lee:

someone named 'paranormal' isn't *that* devout. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:59pm Richard S:

Looking forward to next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 7:59pm listener 126464:

  Wed. 4/25/18 8:00pm Kate:

Fabulous work ladies!
  Wed. 4/25/18 8:00pm Kate:

Fabulous work ladies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 8:01pm ultradamno:

Didn't the Mau Maus come to be thought of as cannibals by ignorant assumption that they did not correct because it served their purposes of being threatening to their enemies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/25/18 8:01pm Paranormale Tonbandstimmen:
