Hello Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:09pm Sem:

Hello and good evening, David. Hi, melinda.

This is a rockin' thing.

Hola, ppl

Greetings Sem and Gary!

It's nothin'...but I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:15pm David D:

Thanks, Jeff, and yes, nothing to hear here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:16pm Sem:

Kashtin was played a great deal in it's time on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
Tue. 4/24/18 4:17pm Gary via app:

Some of you know this already, but it’s news to me: WFMU turned 60 today: http://www.wfmu.org/LCD/21/timeline.html
Tue. 4/24/18 4:19pm Gary via app:

I think sneah means love — it’s in so many songs — so probably Honey Love or Live Like Honey would be most accurate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:21pm doctorjazz:

Hi David and folks, too much of nothing can make a man ill at ease...

Hello and hallo Doctorjazz and Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:26pm David D:

Gary: Yes, indeed, I just got that memo myself, in fact - virtual 60th anniversary drinks on the house!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:26pm Parq:

Édouard Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass" was riffed on for a Bow Wow Wow album cover.

*Love
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:28pm David D:

And yes, I discovered I had the track twice - once as Nothing to be Ashamed of, and once as Love Like Honey. I guess it's about not being ashamed by the love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:29pm David D:

Hey Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:33pm Jeff Golick:

...and also the New Jazz Orch. cover: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:37pm Jeff Golick:

And: www.artnet.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:41pm David D:

The Breastfeeders oddly just went with this: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:42pm Parq:

Presumably, the girl in the Breastfeeders was not willing to do nudity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:43pm Parq:

Going back to Gary's post of the LCD page, I want to say thank you, as it made for interesting reading. Okay, I'd better get back to work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:47pm northguineahills:

Love that Pell Mell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:48pm David D:

Yes, that is a very interesting link for the occasion- wfmu.org... (Thanks, Gary!). I guess this track is the closest I'll get to a Lutheran service tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:50pm David D:

NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:52pm Parq:

I see what you did there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:53pm David D:

I did nothing!
  Tue. 4/24/18 4:53pm melinda:

I love the Fugs.
  Tue. 4/24/18 4:53pm Dean:

According to For the Record, July 14, 1958, the Broadcast Bureau granted WFMU a license on June 30. FTR March 10, 1958, notes assignment of the call letters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:53pm northguineahills:

Fugs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 4:53pm doctorjazz:

Love this Fugs track, Gornisht mit gornisht.
  Tue. 4/24/18 4:58pm Dean:

From the Nov. 2, 1968, Billboard "Vox Jox" column by Claude Hall, this:

WFMU-FM at Upsala College in East Orange, N.J., has been playing progressive rock and, to be frank, has some of the best programming available in this format anywhere in the nation. But, being a non-commercial listener-sponsored college station, the station must depend on donations. Nov. 30, the station will go off the air unless a fund-raising marathon beginning Oct. 28 works out. The marathon will last 24 hours daily for about two weeks. They n eed artists for on-air appearances and anything else anyone can do to help.
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:00pm melinda:

@Dean nice bit of history
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:01pm melinda:

Wasn't 1968 the year it went freeform?
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:04pm Dean:

According to the WFMU timeline linked above:

12. November 4, 1967:
First WFMU Freeform show, Vin Scelsa's The Closet, debuts (midnight-6am).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:04pm David D:

Thanks, Dean! Someone should write a book on the history of the station (hint. hint)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:06pm doctorjazz:

The FMU movie was fun.
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:11pm melinda:

When I restart my Netflix streaming account I want to watch the FMU movie again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:11pm northguineahills:

oh bloody hell, just sat down and looked at the playlist. Yo tengo nada!
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:13pm Dean:

Will there be Alleycats?
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:14pm Dean:

Rather Alley Cats?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:15pm Parq:

You got nothing on me, NGH. I commented on the link between the Lied des Teufels and the Fugs without noticing the theme of the rest of the stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:20pm David D:

@Melinda: The FMU film is unfortunately not on Netflex over here - among many, many other things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:21pm northguineahills:

jaja!, Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:21pm Stanley:

Eddie Palmieri - I could have guessed.
Nice.
  Tue. 4/24/18 5:21pm melinda:

That really sucks, David
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:26pm David D:

@Melinda: Yes, it has something to do with rights, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:39pm Sem:

Nothing personal, David, but this is where I say goodnight to you, and all, and with sincerity say, "Thanks for nothing." Later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:41pm David D:

Nothing else to say but thanks, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:45pm David D:

@NGH: You reminded me before of this map of internet laugh representations around the world: mapsontheweb.zoom-maps.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:49pm northguineahills:

@David: Wife got me to "jeje" and "jaja". And, as you know, know it's not to different from the the Scandi or Germanic countries either (assuming people there laugh ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:50pm northguineahills:

too different, why can't I English (or any other language)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:52pm Parq:

Ohh, Trane's "All or Nothing At All".
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:52pm doctorjazz:

Trane just jumps out of the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:54pm David D:

@NGH: People here tend to haha as in English and I guess all the other grey parts of the map. The 55555 in Thailand is particularly interesting, calls out for wider adoption...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:54pm David D:

Doc. I know what you mean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:55pm doctorjazz:

Blood jumps out as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:57pm northguineahills:

I can't remember which book it was, but I distinctively remember as a 12-year old reading a book where the Swedes and Germans laughed as "jajaja", and there was actually some sprinkled Swedish and German in it w/ translations in the footnotes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 5:58pm northguineahills:

5 is phonetically "Ha" in Thai (used to know that, had to look it up).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:00pm northguineahills:

I've sampled this Sun Ra many times....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:09pm doctorjazz:

Thanks for Nothin', David! Time to hit the Staten Island Expressway, great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:09pm David D:

Thanks, Doctorjazz, say hi to SI!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:24pm David D:

NGH: Back to the book of laughter -it must have been a typo with jaja (=yesyes), which sounds more like annoyance than mirth in German.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:33pm northguineahills:

I picked up a lot of 50s Deutsche vinyl last time I was in Germany (and some Stockhausen). Even some older 78s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:34pm David D:

That's great! I hope they all survived the journey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:36pm northguineahills:

I knew "ja" was an informal "yes". The Germanic J is closer to a Y then an H.

Yep, still have all of it (hit a lot flea markets [but nicer]).
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:38pm Dean:

One of my daughter's friends from our neighborhood, a young girl of five or six, was named after Hildegard Knef.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:42pm northguineahills:

Dean: Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:47pm David D:

Not a lot kids named Hildegard here today - but I can imagine it coming back.
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:49pm Dean:

My assumption was that the medieval composer (inter alia) was the namesake.
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:49pm Dean:

Hmmm, was Tatum O'Neill names after Art?
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:50pm Dean:

Er, O'Neal
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:51pm David D:

It could have been - but there have been others as well. Good question...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:52pm northguineahills:

@Dean: Hildegaard von Bingen?
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:53pm Dean:

Yes. First Hildega(a)rd who comes to (my) mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:54pm northguineahills:

(listened to a podcast about her about a year ago, so still fresh in the noggin).(History of Philosophy w/o any Gaps).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 6:54pm northguineahills:

Arigato, David!
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:55pm Dean:

Hie thee to Sequentia's two, count 'em, TWO recordings of HvB's magnum opus, Ordo Virtutum! Prepare to be scared mightily when the devil makes his entrance.
  Tue. 4/24/18 6:56pm Dean:

Really, The Alley Cats' "Nothing Means Nothing Anymore" would have fit in nicely today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 7:00pm David D:

Thanks Dean, next nothingtime, I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 4/24/18 7:00pm David D:

And thanks everyone - have a great week!
