Happy we all are here

Opening our show w/a mystery record! Released by the Nashville label, Look Records circa 1967 - the song “Travel Lightly” was written by Barry De Vorzon (hitmaker as Barry & The Tamerlanes) & 1 of the Addrisi Bros. (who composed such hits as Never My Love). These writers worked together at the Valiant Records label.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:03pm mce1965:

Great tune
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:04pm Woof:

Hello Everyone! Happy to be in the Sunshine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:04pm cometothesunshine:

I thought so!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:06pm mce1965:

Cascades on Arwin... Melcher-approved
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:07pm cometothesunshine:

welcome!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:07pm mce1965:

But probably not by Mrs. Melcher who found out two years later all her money had been siphoned away
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:07pm cometothesunshine:

Bruno Kretchmar sings “Wander Boy” incorrectly titled “Wonder Boy” on the label. Despite his wayward vocalizing, Bruno became head of Chrysalis Music in the 1980’s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:09pm cometothesunshine:

Venerable UK outfit, The Casuals, sing “Naughty Boy” produced by Roy Wood of The Move. Issued on 17 October They made reords into the 1970’s. In the United States they were known as the British Casuals - are the British ever casual?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:10pm cometothesunshine:

this would have been a great song for Davy
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:11pm cometothesunshine:

The members of The Freedom - Ray Royer & Bobby Harrison - had recorded “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” with Procol Harum, but were kicked out of the band by Gary Brooker! They made only one incredible single in 1968, this is the B-side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:13pm cometothesunshine:

are we entertained?
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:14pm mce1965:

But of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:15pm Woof:

absolutely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:16pm cometothesunshine:

The Comfortable Chair were from Los Angeles & produced by Doors’ members Robbie Krieger & John Densmore for Lou Adler’s Ode label. They made a cameo appearance in the movie How To Commit Marriage with Bob Hope & Jackie Gleason. Is this a great one? You bet it is!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:19pm mce1965:

Twilights... ahhhhhhh
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:19pm cometothesunshine:

I lied about the show not rocking
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:21pm cometothesunshine:

This Gary Knight track is one of my favorite discoveries
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:21pm cometothesunshine:

Can't believe I am still finding these records
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:24pm mce1965:

The Moody Blues for MCE

So many fine tracks amongst the recited poetry
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:27pm cometothesunshine:

yes indeed
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:33pm mce1965:

Wow, a very different sound from the Lamp
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:34pm cometothesunshine:

I agonized over this week's singles and very happy with the results.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:35pm mce1965:

Yep, some amazing stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:38pm bigplanetnoise:

Boom. Howdy everyone....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:38pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Tuned in right when one of my faves came on! Thanks Andrew!!! The Meantime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:38pm cometothesunshine:

welcome BPN & Glynis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:38pm bigplanetnoise:

A - why did you agonize?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:42pm cometothesunshine:

because I always feel I have something better if I spend more time, BPN
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:45pm bigplanetnoise:

Just asking, because I agonize each and every week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:46pm cometothesunshine:

Late Scottish folk singer, Nancy Whiskey, began making records in the 1950’s; her hit was a version of “Freight Train.” She revisited it 10 yrs later, but the flip of her final 45 of the 60s was the self-written, The Game, hinting at an even greater gift.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:47pm mce1965:

Never heard this version
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:53pm cometothesunshine:

hope you liked this batch of singles - I sure did!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:55pm mce1965:

Fantastic... not a dud in the bunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 6:55pm cometothesunshine:

MGM quality pressing
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 6:56pm mce1965:

But of course
  Mon. 4/16/18 6:58pm Michael Luciano:

Great batch! You seem to find the best of the forgottens to represent the essence of the late 60's. I'm looking forward to learning about The Happeneings.
  Mon. 4/16/18 7:00pm Michael Luciano:

I'm from Patterson, NJ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:03pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks ML
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:04pm cometothesunshine:

They tried to get heavy later, but they never achieved total heavyocity
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 7:05pm mce1965:

And that is just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:05pm cometothesunshine:

This is a great unissued song from an acetate, circa 1968
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 7:06pm mce1965:

Any idea who wrote it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:08pm cometothesunshine:

My guess is Dave Libert & Bob Miranda
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:08pm cometothesunshine:

or The Tokens or Paul Kahan or Brute Force
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:09pm cometothesunshine:

I would imagine Libert/Miranda had a lot of their songs rejected
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:09pm cometothesunshine:

so they could rearrange more standards
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:18pm Steeley Chris:

Another GREAT episode!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:19pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks Steely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:19pm cometothesunshine:

Was hoping not to scare everyone off with this one!
  Mon. 4/16/18 7:20pm Michael Luciano:

I always thought records that had the song titles translated would sound like this...
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 7:21pm mce1965:

Thank you for another yeoman's job of programming, Andrew! I will continue listening in the car... it's all Happening...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:22pm cometothesunshine:

There are so many Italian only singles, I wonder who convinced these busy groups it was essential for such a small market.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:22pm cometothesunshine:

take care, mce
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:24pm cometothesunshine:

I guess they had heard the Doors
  Mon. 4/16/18 7:25pm Michael Luciano:

Maybe there was some issue with the release if they didn't translate to Italian... You could do a show of U.S. hits in Italian with the original artists signing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:47pm cometothesunshine:

These lyrics by Brute Force are quite amusing when you think of the author
Avatar Mon. 4/16/18 7:55pm Dominick:

incredible show
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:56pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks all for listening!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:56pm bigplanetnoise:

Great show, A - thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/16/18 7:57pm cometothesunshine:

all this and no Mammy or I Got Rhythm!
  Wed. 4/18/18 9:41pm Pat:

Listening to the podcast so I'm late to the party here, but "I Love Girls" is written by Norman Bergen according to copyright.gov. Thanks for letting us hear it, Andrew!
