"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

What is the title of this song? It's not 'Blaaack' is it? Seriously. |
![]() |
![]() Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair |
![]() |
![]() I love the way she makes her voice sound like a string instrument in distress |
![]() |
![]() I remember David Suisman playing this about 14 years ago. My daughter (about eight years old at the time) was in the car with me and couldn't stop giggling. |
![]() |
Fri. 3/30/18 9:35am
themutante:
Thank you! Thought this was a different take. |
![]() |
![]() Should have known about this artist. Never too late to learn something new, or old. |
![]() |
Fri. 3/30/18 9:36am
themutante:
Hope I don't have to ask too many questions about the song title. Mr Dj is cutting corners. |
![]() |
![]() It's an old folk tune, avant-jazzed, 1965. |
![]() |
![]() "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair" is an old blues song. |
![]() |
![]() '65 was a helluva year for socio-cultural change. |
![]() |
![]() That's because it was the year I was born. Society was like, oh snap, here comes Roberto. We'd best get with the program. |
![]() |
![]() Roberto born in '65 too. |
![]() |
![]() YAAAS '65 twins! |
![]() |
![]() Not me, you. |
![]() |
![]() Oh. Mkay! |
![]() |
![]() may i hello please |
![]() |
![]() you may. |
![]() |
![]() I could list many '65 socio-cultural changes, but those may be obvious, already. [?] |
![]() |
![]() I am late. I like this track. It's a little unusual to see Tom Jones on this board. Oh, wait, Tom Wilson. I am happy to be listening. |
![]() |
![]() Tom Wilson is where? |

Hola |
![]() |
![]() Oh! Just ordered this Gann CD a couple days ago. Sounds good! |
![]() |
![]() wow kyle gann is amazing |
![]() |
![]() Tom Wilson (the producer) passed in 1978. |
![]() |
![]() yknow how Clay Pigeon has the box of pain? Irwin has a similar box, but it's filled with Tom Wilson references |
![]() |
![]() @John, and Nick Mason slurs |

themutante:
Doing the Meth, more like. |
![]() |
![]() Still wonderin' @ T. Wilson: "on the board"? huh? |
![]() |
![]() Hey, whoa, who is slurring Nick Mason? |
![]() |
![]() tdk he produced (some of?) the patty waters and his name is "on the board" that is all |
![]() |
![]() oh, he's on the mixing board is the original reference, but i saw him on the "comments board" which is here so i'm sorry if that was confusing |
![]() |
![]() @steveo @TDK60 That's right-- I was asking if that was his voice as the producer, but it's hard to talk about Mr. Wilson without attempting music biz lingo :) |
![]() |
![]() Steveo: Oh, he engineered Waters, thanks. // This wobbly sound just came on, has to be Eric Chenaux of Quebec's Constellation Records. Chenaux takes the full whammy bar approach. |
![]() |
![]() Produced, don't know if he engineered. |
![]() |
![]() Those easily seasick beware. |

@northguinea - sorry, had to duck out -thx for the Waters show info. That church is just a block away from me on Hicks St. Stop the press. Something interesting happening in BK Heights.
![]() |
![]() (i'd never heard of it either) |
![]() |
![]() sounds like casual sexism, tbh |
![]() |
![]() Never heard of "Jessie" either. What part of this great nation are you inhabiting? |
![]() |
Fri. 3/30/18 10:36am
themutante:
Casual sexism? Well it is Friday. |
![]() I'd inferred as much re: it being a synonym for sissy, etc. Curious where it's from
![]() |
Fri. 3/30/18 10:37am
themutante:
Looked it up. Apparantly not an Americanism and more this side of the Atlantic. Could have swore it was fae over there. |
Fri. 3/30/18 10:37am
exile-on-hicks-st:
And I couldn’t think of a modern analogue to “stop the press” (the presses stoppped long ago). “Hold the phone” also would baffle anyone under 18. My cliches are stuck in the past. Oh, and happy birthday, Slowhand.
![]() |
![]() Mr Allen, I think I can see where you are going and what you are going for... |

This is great! |
![]() |
![]() damn, this is amazing. 1983 it looks like |
![]() |
![]() also, i may have found this guy's linkedin? www.linkedin.com... |
![]() |
![]() Getting back to that Nick Mason reference (drummer for the Pink Floyd band, UK psych combo). Guess I never focused on his drumming, know not why. He was subtle? Suppose I was more focused on the P.F. organist. |
![]() |
![]() "GT Little, Jr. is an experienced professional and university educated music scholar, whose range is virtually limitless." |
![]() |
![]() Mason played with so much taste and restraint. Always the right thing in the right place. Perhaps he wasn't the most technically skilled, but I have heard 'better' drummers sing his praises. |
![]() |
Fri. 3/30/18 10:55am
themutante:
I'm only listening through an Echo, but that kick drum has some oomph on it. |
![]() |
![]() Thanks for your thoughts Polyus. I'm a bit Floyded-out, but they did/do have some good rekkids. |
Fri. 3/30/18 11:03am
David in London:
Really liked that last set. It’s a wet Bank Holiday here in the UK. I’m lying on the sofa reading, and it’s suiting the mood perfectly.
![]() |
![]() Could it be, the world is finally catching up with Jon Hassell, so to speak? |
Fri. 3/30/18 11:19am

in the car, love the show
![]() |
![]() Finally picked up the new US Girls. It seriously is so damn good. |
![]() |
![]() Still on the sofa David? C'mon, up and do the Watusi with me!, the Frug! 1,000 dances... |
![]() |
![]() people still have cars? love u.s.girls. live in brooklyn 3 shows on 4/13, probably all sold out |
Fri. 3/30/18 11:24am
Mick Dylan:
howdy. has the dog and mist cleared?
![]() |
![]() She's playing the night before at Great Scott in Boston, which seems like a shockingly small venue for an act like that. I can't make it, which is a bummer-- next time around it'll probably be somewhere twice the size. |
Fri. 3/30/18 11:26am
mick dylan:
I have cars.. | |
![]() |
![]() Is there a bad US Girls song? Everything I've heard over the years is nearly perfect. |
Fri. 3/30/18 11:29am
David in London:
@TDK60. I might manage a gentle two-step later if I have time to work up to it...
![]() |
![]() I'm ashamed to admit that, before the new album, I only knew her bonkers cover of "The Boy Is Mine." Really need to check out more. |
![]() |
![]() Okay David, low-key day there in Olde London Town. |
![]() |
![]() Never even heard of US Girls til 'eared 'em on WFMU recently. That's what this radio station is for. |
![]() |
![]() Yeah, I've only really absorbed that dope Brandy cover, "Jack", and most of the rest of her second record. My wife played "Jack" a lot five, six years ago. That's pretty much it, other than things floating around online occasionally. I also need to delve deeper, starting with the new record. |
Fri. 3/30/18 11:38am
David in London:
Yeah, I’ve bought so much stuff after being introduced to it here on Woof Moo. How did I never hear John Prine before?
![]() |
![]() @The Oscar, US Girls playing Great Scott?? That *is* shockingly small! |

![]() Really digging this whole show. Thanks JA! |
![]() |
![]() the "live room" at "baby's all right" in brooklyn is only 280 people so that should be nice and intimate, too |
