That book is so out of date, there's a new one where you lean how to play music by using one weird trick.

Not sure if this is being played "ironically", certainly not a band on the Woof-Mu regular (!) list, but the Cvlt are so great and so underappreciated, in my humble.

I want to think that too, Sir Wild. I recall Ken going on a rant once about basically "not liking/or listening" to the music he plays... guess it never occurred to me, but could be the case more than we, the listeners know. <Disillusioned>

@Itzall-is it possible he was...just kidding? Or was it an elaborate faux outrage that conceals a greater truth?? I don't really like Porest or Negativeland very much, so maybe Ken does not either? Wow, project much Wild Neil? I hope my point is clear here....Ken must be a genius at running the station, he has gotten this far....
I force myself to listen to Porest because maybe I will grow to like it? Like some of Bryce's show?

Wow, ironic for music on MTV? I'm not. I remember going to a motel party with a bunch of "cool kids" and all they did was drink beer and watch MTV which played "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes (which SUCKS, objectively) 4 times an hour, no exaggeration. MTV really does suck. Once the novelty wore off, I was DONE with it.

I like to think I can tell the difference between what I don't like vs. what I don't get, but then I'm not that smart. Tastes do change over time, but what I didn't like back then, I didn't like back then and that was OK. Today I might like it and that's OK too. And it's not because I forced myself too, but because I've changed and now there's stuff I don't like now that I once used to.

Bronwyn, that's great. Reading liner notes has always drawn me to the artists who influenced the musicians I love, and then you learn about their contemporaries, and it's just a wonderful wormhole. (At some point I was inspired to pick up a Pitney best-of.)

@andrewb: I believe the band’s manager was his nephew? I listened to a lot of Ratt as a child, and I wasn’t even in a hostage situation. Maybe I’m incorrect about that last bit. ;)

Irwin: I couldn't articulate well during the fundraiser. I just wanted to say that your ideology is humane, if sometimes obscure, and your hustle is justified and karmically right. You have published and will never perish as a scholar and historian. Your book is in the Somerville Library and I do check every now and then to make sure all's well.

@Itzall Ablurr: Amazon no, Ebay maybe. I'm looking at my Turtle's video rental card that I still have in my wallet. For whatever reason the one closest to me had a much better selection of older movies that Blockbuster.

great idea! reminds me of the South Park episode where they stitched the character "Chefs" dialogue together from past episodes as Isaac Hayes who played him was offended by the show satirizing his religion in the weeks previous episode
