Hey Dan! Thanks for playing my band's EP (Fucked Up), "Our Own Blood" with Tanya Tagaq. We put the 12" out ourselves, limited to 250 copies. If anyone wants one, they can email me at sandymiranda@gmail.com. We don't have distribution for it. Thanks and be well!

Thanks Linda -- there's no bass on this album, though. Haha (I'm the bass player). I just helped by assembling the art layout and managing the vinyl pressing. :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:36pm Richard S:

I need to check if Dan has ever played any Anonymous 4. A vocal quartet that does medieval and Renaissance songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:37pm melinda:

I think I need a visual diagram to fully understand overtone singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:37pm Linda Lee:

they may be a bit straight on for VF. lovely work though
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Bluh ... all I can offer is The Beat Farmers with their singer's silly voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:38pm Linda Lee:

melinda, seeing someone talk about how it's done helps get a handle on it. i believe it involves vocalizing + forming the throat, too. changing the shape of the resonating chamber.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:39pm Linda Lee:

that brings out tones that are actually always there.
Avatar Mon. 1/22/18 7:40pm Dan Bodah:

@Ken, any particular Beat Farmers tunes I should check? I know of them but actually haven't ever listened that I can recall. @Richard, I have played Anonymous 4 years back -- I love that early music singing, but it ordinarily doesn't fit here. Sometimes I do veer into vocal polyphony though, so maybe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:40pm Linda Lee:

the shape of the mouth too. the whole thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:40pm melinda:

I still need a visual diagram.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ooo. Chord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:41pm Linda Lee:

i think it might be hard to show the changes in a still image. video maybe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Dan - I'll need to research the BFers and see if they have anything that would fit the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:43pm melinda:

Video plus graphics would be good.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow that.
Avatar Mon. 1/22/18 7:45pm Dan Bodah:

what a pig i am. remembered she was cute, not the name. shame on me! but she's very good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think virtually everything gives overtones except electronic synthesizers - which may give a single pure soundwave. Someone once said flutes - but someone else said no way - all that air & stops - & even the person playing... I'm also told a distorted fuzzed guitar actually has *fewer* overtones*: the soundwave is chopped & made more electronic - counter-intuitive to me since it sounds 'fuzzier' - but makes sense in another way...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx! Gotta go!

thanks, Dan! another great show, now with Vikings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Too bad the Eagles beat the Vikings yesterday. Have a good week, Dan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 1/22/18 7:59pm Webhamster Henry:

@rr63, the purest tones are from tuning forks, but wood flutes (which suppress high overtones) are pretty sinusoidal. Distortion, through devices, is usually inharmonic, depending on how it's made. But distortion on a just tuned guitar (say) has the sum and difference frequencies line up with the tuning, so it turns into an immense power chord. Check out Jon Catler for examples.
