Thought this was the Stones at first.

Angry young Van!

If this wasn't an all covers show I would be duty bound to follow this with the WC Fields Memorial Electric String Band

I believe Mae West could've done a passing imitation of Lena Horne, and vice versa.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey SBP!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Funky16Corners:

That Mae West album is actually pretty good in spots
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Jeff Ash:

Been digging a bunch of early Rod Stewart stuff lately, like this!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Funky16Corners:

My favorite period of Rod's stuff
Avatar 10:16pm

He's got a lot to answer for since.

Omg you should see Ron funches on match game! He’s super thin!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Funky16Corners:

oh yeah

@Jenny - Remember we saw him on Speechless and almost didn't recognize him

The covers are off!

Hey David!

@funky yeah he really looks good
Avatar 10:30pm

I was recently thinking someone should do a tasteful fresh cover of Walk On By with a discriminating approach to modern production. If not tasteful or discriminating...get out!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Funky16Corners:

I can't believe someone hasn't done a recent all Bacharach/David album
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Uncle Michael:

Like this, still b/p?

hey Unk!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Uncle Michael:

Hi!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Uncle Michael:

And Larry, that's from Rumer's 2016 Bacharach/David album.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Funky16Corners:

I will check that out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
david w:

What do you get when you fall in love? Pneumonia. And they didn't even phone 'ya... Brilliant.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes indeed. Hal David doesn't get enough credit
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Uncle Michael:

I think Burt's outsized image, relative to Hal's, has a lot to do with his personal glamor. He embodied '60s jet set better than anyone.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Funky16Corners:

I agree. Hal lives in those lyrics, though. I was listening to Aretha doing 'Say a Little Prayer' the other day and marveling at the words
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Uncle Michael:

Who covers The Brass Ring...I ask you?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Funky16Corners:

Who?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Uncle Michael:

That Aretha was on my Listener Request show. I have some hep listeners.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Uncle Michael:

Booker T!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Funky16Corners:

I always associate that song with the T-Bones, they had the hit
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Uncle Michael:

Oops, T-Bones...brain fart.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Jeff Ash:

Nice tribute.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Uncle Michael:

I confused it with "The Dis-Advantages Of You"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Funky16Corners:

@UM - That cover is my favorite thing on that album. They really transform it
Avatar 10:47pm
still b/p:

That Walk On By is pretty nice, UM. Tasteful and certainly respectful...very straight. I'd also like one that's in the tough zone of giving an interestingly distinct hue but not losing...the thing. I think, for example, Fugees did a fair job in that zone with Killing Me Softly. which grew on me. Hearing part of Rumer's This Girl's In Love...she seems kinda too neutral in approach.

Burt can do jet-setter better than Hal can,
Anywhere Hal can show, Burt can cram glam,
No, he can't
Yes, he can
No, he can't
Yes, he can...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Jeff Ash:

I have this record. Kinda cool cover.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes, very cool
  10:49pm
Dean:

Must disagree. David got almost equal billing in my house (almost). Lyric writers should recognize that in the domain of recorded music, they are at a disadvantage. Hearing is radically distinct from reading/listening-to-words.

Top cover of "Walk on By": The Stranglers.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Funky16Corners:

My Pop always taught me to appreciate lyricists.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Funky16Corners:

Agree on the Stranglers, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
melinda:

I like the Walking in Space album, I have been listening to it in my car lately, good for driving.
Avatar 10:56pm
still b/p:

Mighty tough, I'm sure, as in any creative field, to be truly and consistently good and a successful collaborator , but, man, it would've been fun to be a capable lyricist in the middle third of the 20th century.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi Melinda!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Funky16Corners:

@SBP - Yeah, during the maturing of the Tin Pan Alley days, when things started to get a little more artsy.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Uncle Michael:

I've yet to hear a bad version of Don't Make Promises. It's one of those bulletproof songs.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
Funky16Corners:

One of my faves
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
Funky16Corners:

God bless Tim Hardin
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Jeff Ash:

The Nitty Gritty. One of my all-time faves!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Funky16Corners:

Mine too, esp Gladys' version!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Uncle Michael:

Saw Gladys last year...still got it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Jeff Ash:

Love the guitars on this.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Funky16Corners:

The best singer in the Motown organization IMHO
Avatar 11:12pm
still b/p:

Was just gonna ask if Gladys was still at it at all. Good to know.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Jeff Ash:

Agreed, Larry.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Uncle Michael:

I'd tend to agree.

OK, I'm turning the lights out...Thanks for the nice warm covers.
Avatar 11:13pm
still b/p:

A few of her numbers that were just pop background stuff for me as a youth....I listen occasionally now and it's "Ohh, my...!"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Funky16Corners:

Nite UM!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Funky16Corners:

Gladys and the Pips Norman Whitfield stuff is very funky and hard hitting

'You Need Love Like I Do' is a lost classic.

Bought this record last summer. Love it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Funky16Corners:

I remember when you got it
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Jeff Ash:

Thought for a moment this was gonna be a Hot Chocolate cover.
Avatar 11:34pm
still b/p:

Exactly what I thought I might be hearing.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Funky16Corners:

It does kind of sound like that!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Funky16Corners:

This is from 1968
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Funky16Corners:

I wonder if Hot Chocolate heard it?
Avatar 11:41pm
still b/p:

Morgana could also do a fair Lena, I'm guessing. I don't know if Lena would've appreciated all this guessing and assuming.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Funky16Corners:

I think Lena would have dug Morgans, who had a jazz background.
Avatar 11:42pm
still b/p:

...or if the other artists would say, "I'll do MYSELF just fine, thank you."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Funky16Corners:

I have some cool Lena things for the next all-covers show
Avatar 11:43pm
still b/p:

Oh, good.
Where was David...cowbelling...?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, seriously. If the credits are to be believed, he was there for the cover shots
Avatar 11:48pm
fleep:

Needs moaning.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Funky16Corners:

Serge and Jane were beezy
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:02am
Jeff Ash:

Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:03am
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar 12:03am
still b/p:
