Doug, just wondering if you'll be adding Alasdair Roberts to this set to lighten the mood ..

Speaking of the Elders, I learned a kind of bizarro factoid yesterday. U.S. President John Tyler, who was born in 1790, still has two living grandsons.
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:17am Mr C:

I worked a few blocks from Trump Tower for many years. There was a Tower Records in the basement, so I had occasion to go. THAT, with its fake gold, marble and goofy, pretend "opulence" was and is a shithole.
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:20am βrian:

Who was that corrupt politician in The Wire who made such effective use of the word "shit?" He ought to stage a comeback of sorts.
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:20am DutchTheo:

@northguineahills (i had a little radiobreak, back right on time for the ethiopian shithole) yes the the ambassador, he is from dutch (shithole) descent. This stupidity is not limited to the US though...
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:20am Listener Gregory:

There should definitely be a show called Give the Shithole Some!
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:21am Doug Schulkind:

Sheeeeeeeeeeeee-it. Amirite, βrian!
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:22am βrian:

Yes, I think I even saw a T-Shirt quoting that character.
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

I love the carnival organ–sound of this Essatu Tèssèma number.
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:23am βrian:

[Tossing you some beads ...]
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:24am ndbob:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/12/18 11:27am Parq:

I am working with some professional friends on a spoof about Preet Bharara that goes live next Thursday. We had just finished adding a "stable genius" line last night. I noted that, with a week to go, Trump would surely say something so horribly stupid that we would have to put a reference to it, too, into the script. It took him less than 24 hours to prove me right.
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:28am Doug Schulkind:

When you gotta go, ndbob, you gotta go. Cheers!

@Parq
Preet is proving to be a skilled and hilarious Twitterer.

Would you all be so kind as to join me for some more musical repast at the top of the hour?

My wife really enjoys the Preet podcast.
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:30am DutchTheo:

speaking of presidents: Lyndon Johnson: If you can convince the lowest white man that he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll even empty his pockets for you.

There are no Ethiopian restaurants here, but there is one w/ Ethiopian dishes, but it doesn't open until 5:30 (too late for me to eat).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/12/18 11:39am Funky16Corners:

OMG, I finished the desk!!!! Great show! I dug all the UK folk, and the jazz, and the Afro, and now the sweet soul! You da man Schulkind!
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:40am Listener Gregory:

If you have to tell people that you're the enchanting enchanters, I question whether you really are. It's a bit like being a stable genius.
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

Takes one to know one, Mr. Corners!
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:41am Mr C:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/12/18 11:44am Funky16Corners:

I wish I'd been by the computer. There were a couple of songs in the UK set that reminded me of Matty Groves and For Shame of Doing Wrong

Wow. I saw him open for them in Santa Monica. That was around the time Sandy Pearlman dedicated "Safe European Home" to me on KROQ. "This goes out to Dean, the world's biggest Clash fan," which I was at the time.
  Fri. 1/12/18 11:57am Listener Gregory:

Why aren't their more soul songs about stability?? Didn't Otis Redding do "They Call Me Mr. Stability"? Need to look this up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/12/18 11:57am northguineahills:

In 1999, I saw Bo Diddley walking through the mall, here in Gainesville. It was surreal.
Avatar Fri. 1/12/18 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

I saw them at the Ontario Theatre, 15 February 1979
