Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 8, 2017 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

i was perhaps hoping the graphic today was a veiled allusion to the great UK Sausage Roll nativity controversy... good evening, Uncle M

"Earlier this week, the UK high-street baker Greggs was labelled “sick” and faced boycotts after picturing a sausage roll in the Nativity scene to advertise its Advent calendar. Now some have pointed out that “Lord Jesus”, who is usually depicted in the crib in the Christian scene, remarkably spells “Susejd rol” backwards"

Hey, checking in!
(great concert tomorrow night, Microscopnc Septet, Jazz Passengers, and Kamakaze Ground Crew, psyched).
Got to see Nels Cline and The Autumn Defense last weekend, who put on a show in my FRIEND'S LIVING ROOM (he's friendly with many of the Wilco members). It was cool.

doctor jazz, living room gigs are the only way to go these days, i reckon! chris corsano did two nights at my house this year, and peter brotzmann is doing two nights next year. you need to let lots of people in, though! no food allowed

doctorjazz:

@ausmanx, they are great! I'd love to get to your house for those shows (Brontzmann!!!!), though I believe you're not geographically convenient to us New Jersey-ites! As for local living room gigs, I don't know of many in the NY area. There's a classical series that happens called GroupMuse which happens all over the NYC area (much in the boros), but generally difficult for me to get to. I'd love to find out about some more stuff (concert going in Manhattan is such an expensive hassle...)
Avatar 8:07am
ausmanx:

it's become pretty big here with sites like this parlourgigs.com i don't use them as i have my own list after 9 years, but there's gotta be a big market where you are, surely? i know phill niblock's still doing his loft events (he has a bunch this month, i know, including henry flynt, which i'm very envious of)
Avatar 🛒 Swag For Life Member 8:16am
doctorjazz:

Googled it a bit-the Phil Niblock site show some shows from 2007, and some international stuff, not much here. Must be some around, but I only know of the classical series, GroupMuse (which likely means I'm just out of the loop). Certainly the living room set has an intimacy and connection to the music hard to get in a club or concert venue (my friend is in Philadelphia, 1.5-2 hours from me; I think some more does go on there).
