An amazing fact about it is that although it showed an enormous variety of scenery, much of it looking bucolic, it was shot entirely in New York City, because NYC is so big & scenery-diverse, it can stand for the whole country or world.

Around 1973/74 Up With People inspired a political rebellion at Goshen College, a Mennonite school in Indiana. Goshen did not permit dancing . . . and some students weren't pleased. My wife was there and reported that when Up With People was scheduled to perform at the school, a lot of students got together and demanded the right to dance at the UWP show . . . Their protest was fruitless . . .

A lot of '20s stuff in the' 60s as well, many similarities: prosperity, social change, popular illegal drugs, mass culture very important. The Depression quashed a lot of the '20s stuff; making the middle classes perpetually afraid did for much of the' 60s. (I think it was T.R.W,. who answered 'What caused the Damn Sixties?' with 'People stopped being afraid of poverty and acted as if they might have rights.'. )
