Avatar Thu. 11/16/17 9:03am Richard Gruesome:

I don't know if you guys are aware of the problem, but usually when your show starts, there is some sort of glitch on the webstream and it sounds like a cd skipping and I just have to restart the webstream and then it's fine.
Avatar Thu. 11/16/17 9:03am Richard Gruesome:

since it's fmu, it took me a while to realize it was not purposeful
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 9:04am Kurt Gottschalk:

are you sure that's not just my scratchy 45s?

ahh, miss Hildegard Von Bingen, a very curious individual
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 9:46am northguineahills:

@Richard Gruesome, that usually happens when using the pop-up window to listen when shows change.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 9:46am Kurt Gottschalk:

curious, fascinating and brilliant, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 9:51am northguineahills:

Not only was she a composer, but she had philosophical and theological incites that gained the notice of men (which was rare for the 12c).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 9:53am Kurt Gottschalk:

not to mention a botanist! and as of 2012 (i think that's the year) a saint.

In a similar vein, here's Dave Soldier playing the Minute Waltz in a half hour: www.youtube.com...

Got to see Elliot Carter when he was still alive when he was still alive in his 90s, when he attended a performance of one of his pieces at Cooper Union.
  Thu. 11/16/17 10:17am Jeff g.:

This seems appropriate. Hi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:17am Kurt Gottschalk:

i understand he was a little bit bigger than his glasses, yeah?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:18am Kurt Gottschalk:

morning, jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:28am northguineahills:

Yeah, he looked like the old guy from the movie Up! (which I haven't seen).
Avatar Thu. 11/16/17 10:37am Richard Gruesome:

uncharacteristically conservative pieces from both Carter and Schnittke this morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:40am northguineahills:

In last week's Mr. Robot, they played Glass's "Einstein on the Beach" for a few minutes here and there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:43am Kurt Gottschalk:

ha, richard, i noticed you didn't clicky-star the schnittke. i thought maybe you'd lapsed into a coma.
Avatar Thu. 11/16/17 10:45am Richard Gruesome:

You play the one Schnittke work I don't like! (the ending is good)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:48am Kurt Gottschalk:

whoopsie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:49am Kurt Gottschalk:

i'll try again next week.

String trio, man. Or piano quintet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:51am Kurt Gottschalk:

we'll see.
  Thu. 11/16/17 10:57am Dean:

Play the piano octet, which is the string trio + piano quintet.
Avatar Thu. 11/16/17 10:58am Richard Gruesome:

whoa
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:58am Kurt Gottschalk:

ha, we'll see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 10:59am Kurt Gottschalk:

you wouldn't believe the paperwork that goes into changing a playlist less than two weeks in advance! and ken demands all the forms to be typed in triplicate.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:00am Dean:

WFMU should solicit donations of carbon paper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:03am Kurt Gottschalk:

we're also really in need of rolls of fax paper. the price has skyrocketed for that.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:10am Dean:

Pretty sure this Messiaen was recorded here: https://www.patrimoine-histoire.fr/images/Patrimoine/Paris/e05NDduLiban/ParNDLib01.JPG
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:12am northguineahills:

That reminds me I need to see if the printer/scanner/fax machine's fax functions correctly. I need to fax something. (you'd think places would accept scans these days).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:13am Kurt Gottschalk:

can't you fax from your computer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:17am Webhamster Henry:

I used to have a really good Saint-Saëns piece for my reproducing piano, but it shredded.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:17am Dean:

Paul Buckmaster, RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:19am Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, interesting career. i read his obit. i really didn't know anything about him before.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:22am Dean:

He seemed to show up randomly on liner notes, across many genres. A familiar, ubiquitous name.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:22am Dean:

Aptly for this particular track on the playlist, he was a 'cellist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:24am Kurt Gottschalk:

wait, which track?
Avatar    Thu. 11/16/17 11:25am V Priceless:

'wild-eyed boy from freecloud' is a fine sampling of his talent - carry on
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:25am Dean:

Do you know/enjoy the Britten 'cello sonatas? Alexander Baillie's recordings are pretty special.

The Jensen. Is that not a 'cello? Gamba?

Caroline Shaw, new to me and nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:26am northguineahills:

Britten sonatas are a fave
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:28am northguineahills:

Wow, Buckmaster worked on Miles' "On the Corner".
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:29am Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:32am Kurt Gottschalk:

on the record, jensen is credited as playing cello. it's a contemporary piece and i'm not familiar with acme using period instruments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:34am Jeff Golick:

Enjoying this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:34am Kurt Gottschalk:

caroline shaw is quite the rising star. she got a pulitzer a few years back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:35am Jeff Golick:

Now just realizing I have this recording (Del Sol).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:37am Kurt Gottschalk:

it's a bit of a weird record, this piece between two terry riley compositions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:38am Jeff Golick:

Yeah. I went right to the title piece, then promptly forgot about it. Happy to have the chance to hear it now.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:38am Dean:

Monteverdi can hold up.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:55am northguineahills:

Crap, it's noon, thanks Kurt!
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:57am Dean:

Props for playing Sequentia at the top of the show. I missed it, but I have been collecting their records since the early '80s. My vote for best early music group, or at least neck and neck with Les Arts Florissants. Not that it's a horse race.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 11:58am Kurt Gottschalk:

i picked up a copy of their hvb complete box set, it's stunning to look at and listen to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 11/16/17 11:59am Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the music, Kurt.
  Thu. 11/16/17 11:59am Dean:

I gather, though, that it doesn't include the first stab at Ordo Virtutum, which includes the most hair-raising Satanic shout on record! I heard Sequentia's performance after that record, spent some time with the group after the show.
Avatar    Thu. 11/16/17 11:59am V Priceless:

thanx Kurt! Chow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 11/16/17 12:00pm Jeff Golick:
