Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

![]() In for the radio lagniappe! annie: Sorry to hear the week's been rough. Some bad moments earlier this week on my side too. Solidarity sent. |
![]() |
![]() nothing some hinky dinky time can't fix, i hope, annie? |
![]() |
![]() it's just the passing of time and people .... this was expected but still more of a shock than i thought it would be; sitting personal shiva today and tomorrow. i could use a good loud lunch with some people...thanks guys, i love your spirit and support. |
![]() |
![]() Condolences, Annie. Good morning everyone. How's Alan coming through? |
![]() |
![]() i just finished Dance with me Stanley, a couple of shows.. fun, fun. |

Blackboard Jungle - great film
![]() |
![]() wow, loved the commentary! |
![]() |
![]() The film is given so much credit for popularizing R&R. Interesting to hear a contemporary take, suggesting the opposite. |
![]() |
![]() i'm not sure if any of you have seen some of the Hot-Rod movies from the 50s... they are soo good.. |

When you said Mose, I thought you meant Moz, as in Morrissey. Mose Allison is better.

![]() |
![]() (I think Wynton has mellowed a bit with age; he actually tolerates stuff he considered drivel or noise in his younger years). |
Fri. 11/10/17 9:51am

What's wrong with Wynton Marsalis?
![]() |

![]() |
Fri. 11/10/17 9:52am
northguineahills:
There's a Trane doc on pbs, hello pbs.org tonight. Going to brew some tea to stay up. I've seen Marsalis actually be positive about more creative artists before, and it surprised me. Marsalis has said a few disparaging things about freer jazz in the past, and has been know to be a taskmaster w/ his groups. |

new Melvins! (listening on the app on my phone ,I'm lagging behind, commenting on my work puter.) |
![]() |
![]() I think that was true about Marsalis when he first broke (Branford was the open minded Marsalis)-now, his baby, Jazz at Lincoln Center, does book artists from the free jazz world, seems swing and bebop are no longer the only accepted types of music. |

![]() |
![]() This sounds a lot like a certain Neii Sedaka song. |
![]() |
Fri. 11/10/17 10:17am
northguineahills:
Cumbia rebajada started sort of like dj screw's cut and screwed hiphop mixes. In the early 80s, there was a cumbia outdoor party at the market in Monterrey, Mexico. The generators started to die and the turntables started to slow down. Cough syrup was the drug of choice, so the audience loved it. So first, rebajada mixes were made, then bands started making the music like that on purpose. |
![]() |
![]() That's how I've heard the tale, NGH. |

![]() That's quite a song for colored plastic |
![]() |
Fri. 11/10/17 10:51am

he released this (on a plastic record, hopefully a coloured one) when the noses of pontiacs were being made of plastic, and fading to pale colors within a couple years. |

i smoke an average of maybe 3 cigarettes/year. what the typical american eats in 3 days harms them more than my 3 ciggies/year. - i keep meaning to smoke more herb though. maybe this weekend. |

Anybody been to IMDb lately? I went to check something (Tiffany's related) and for the second time in a couple days the Eggo waffle awful FACE WHAM takeover of the page layout was startling and repellent. The first time, I initally closed it in the moment it took to load because I thought I'd taken a wrong turn. |

![]() @ Doug, I'm always a sucker for an instrument that's as big or bigger than the player using it (used to love seeing my daughter play bass clarinet in the school band, was sorry when she gave it up-punk guitar was more her style). |

mechanics always don't reset it for me, saying it doesn't matter because my car's too old to need to pass emissions tests in new york; but maybe it would actually tell me that there was a problem, if it was not always on. |

coel -- Separate ad graphics overkill on the movie site. Although going back to the same page, I got different big ad whack. Awful waffle attack must be in rotation. I hope some algorithm or tracking hasn't targeted me for conversion/indoctrination. |
