Randy's orchestral scoring comes to fore on this rendition - remarkable.
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:19pm cometothesunshine:

Maybe the best version of this one - Wayne's voice is wonderful

Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:36pm cometothesunshine:

Imagine having a voice like Nilsson's
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:36pm cometothesunshine:

Alan Price/Eric B - both Animals and early Randy supporters
  Mon. 10/23/17 6:36pm dangie:

Yep!!
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:38pm cometothesunshine:

This song interestingly has a similar melody and changes to a later Nilsson song
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:40pm cometothesunshine:

This instrumental bed was part of a Ricardo Montabaln 45 on A&M that Randy wrote.
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:41pm cometothesunshine:

This set of female vocalists is a killer
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:42pm cometothesunshine:

The Elvis Costello version of this one is good too
  Mon. 10/23/17 6:43pm dangie:

Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:46pm cometothesunshine:

so many good versions of this one - but this single by Lori Burton is new to me.

Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:57pm mce1965:

Talk Eddie off the ledge
  Mon. 10/23/17 6:58pm dangie:

A Spector like vibe in the production here
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:58pm cometothesunshine:

Teen tragedy
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 6:59pm cometothesunshine:

  Mon. 10/23/17 7:00pm dangie:

Sadness sells!!!
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:02pm cometothesunshine:

well, yes but not so much in the case of these songs - very few hits. But artists were drawn to sing these gorgeous heartbreakers for sure.
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:03pm cometothesunshine:

Another of my faves: Gene Pitney
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:05pm dangie:

Such a distinct vocalist
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:05pm cometothesunshine:

yes, very distinct

Yes, a pre-Boyce & Hart solo single on A&M
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:10pm cometothesunshine:

This predates Alan Price's hit version
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:10pm cometothesunshine:

This 45 was produced by Leon Russell
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:11pm dangie:

Davy would've been well suited for this one...
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:11pm KarenS:

Very literal haha
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:12pm cometothesunshine:

We'll hear a bit of Davy later in the show!
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:13pm KarenS:

A day without Davy is like a day without sunshine!
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:16pm dangie:

Very true Karen!!
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:16pm cometothesunshine:

Randy is most elated and happy when singing about being a Junkman
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:18pm cometothesunshine:

sounds like Nicky Hopkins on piano
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:18pm dangie:

I'm not at all familiar with Beverley... good track!!
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:19pm cometothesunshine:

Love Story (You & Me) = GOLD
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:37pm cometothesunshine:

everyone's got something - they're trying to get some more...
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:41pm dangie:

Rick N. had great taste in material!!
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:42pm cometothesunshine:

he cut so many Newman songs it was tough to choose
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:44pm cometothesunshine:

These is but a very narrow slice of Randy Newman's songwriting - what a brilliant man.
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:44pm cometothesunshine:

he plays piano on all of these Nilsson cuts too
  Mon. 10/23/17 7:46pm uptownjen:

  Mon. 10/23/17 7:49pm Kat:

Alan's priceless recordings of Randy's early stuff lead us to RN's sensational NY debut at the Bitter End, September '70. Seventeen then and a fan ever since. _Thank you_, Andrew, for this sensational retrospective of what is surely some of his finest work.
Avatar Mon. 10/23/17 7:51pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, Kat!
