Switchblade Batman:

Fun fact, the Soviets said that Laika was put out of her misery by eating a poisoned biscuit because they couldn't get her back.

Truth of the matter is that didn't happen. The poor dog was burned up on re-entry, and she was very much alive.

Did I say fun fact, yes. Because it's 2017 and everything is terrible.

Awesome sequence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am

She was also a street dog that they just grabbed in Moscow, which makes it worse in a way.

The Portland Oregon nineties band Pond had an awesome song about Laika called “My Dog Is an Astronaut, Though”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am
Switchblade Batman:

I'll have to google that @Scraps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16am
Switchblade Batman:

Also, actual fun fact was that Laika's launch was on October 31, 1957 so we're looking at the 60th anniversary.

4 years and 11 months ago... uh oh BTW for anyone up while it's still dark out the orionid meteor shower is going on. Just go outside and find orions sword and watch the party. (This music makes a good soundtrack)
Avatar 4:22am
Scraps:

Switchblade Batman, I don’t know if the Pond song — which is great — necessarily has anything to do with the awful actual story. I mean, maybe it does; I can’t remember all the lyrics, which is typical for me

Meteor shower! Yay!

Yes, @CarolCrow. No more weird dark Soviet space facts. For the rest of the show. I'm sorry, the ambien is kicking in and I'm getting loopy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am
Switchblade Batman:

I think I'll catch the shower then go to bed, night all
Avatar 4:27am
Scraps:

Looked up the lyrics.

“you strapped the dog into a chair, she tried to lick your face
then you counted backwards and you launched her into space
you made no provisions for bringing her back home
high and all alone
you can look into the sky you might see a falling star
if I get one wish I hope that Laika will go far
I hope she sails on and on across the universe
finds there some new world where she'll be safe from man's experiments
that don't have come home parts
free from being bound by chains or left alone in cars
wonder if she'll think about a family back on earth
Laika Laika

my dog is an astronaut light years away from home
she lives up in heaven howling above the moon

she's not coming down it takes more than you to keep a good dog on the ground
she's not coming back it take more than you to keep a good dog down

every night I look out my window, I find the faintest star above
how'd you ever pick a name that you're never gonna use enough
why'd you name her if that was your big plan”
  4:28am
tinkle bear:

*flaps hands for meteor shower, and for not having to choose between incineration and being poisoned (although if it ever came down to that, i think i'd have to go with the fire)*

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17am
Mr. Pumpy:

Is Deckard a replicant?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19am
Mr. Pumpy:

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." ~Roy Batty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29am
Mr. Pumpy:

CarolCrow, this run is insane. Good spinning!
Avatar 5:31am
Scraps:

Deckard should not be a replicant, but unfortunately the director bought it. It’s very cliche, and Philip K Dick wouldn’t write it, but he’s dead. In My Goddamned Opinion. ;-)
Avatar 🌜 Swag For Life Member 5:34am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I want to mention that I missed the 10/7 SMS and caught the archive recently. The piano track in the first set was ever so lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35am
Mr. Pumpy:

No...Dick definitely wrote him as a human, I am just posing the question in regard to the film. It is implied, especially in the director's cut, but still up for interpretation/debate. Not that I'm trying to debate...I was just throwing it out there before making eggs...
