I'm pretty sure but not totally sure he was with the Doobies.

It's cool seeing him playing congas with Steely Dan on some of those early videos.

He shows up in a Linda Ronstadt performance on the Midnight Special playing congas

He wasn't a Doonie till '74...and that may have been the year I saw them. Though my mind wants to say '73. My mind is an unreliable source.

Parq:

Our kid went to Bard, so the Dan are definitely on Mrs. Parq's radar, even though (and here, she differs from Mrs. LG), she is not particularly enthusiastic about this kind of music. We were just sitting over a late supper, parsing "My Old School". Speaking strictly for myself, "Countdown to Ecstasy" is one of those desert island albums.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Funky16Corners:

They're def one of those bands that I still find new things to dig 45 years on
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

C - I should mention that we are talking about the analysis of stoned NJ high school kids of the 70s, so their approach wasn't logical or well thought out

Uncle M, I have spent a great deal of time driving in Barrytown while the kid was up there. There was a Roman Catholic monastery there, and blue-collar R.C. boys sent up for the summer would sneak out at night and party with the Bard cuties. It's owned by the Unification Church now. The ever-changing world.

Funky16Corners:

Doesn't (or didn't) Bard have a kind of freeform thing going on academically, or am I just thinking of the prep school?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Parq:

Larry, Bard isn't one of those "invent your own major" schools, if that's what you mean. It's actually quite rigorous. It's just that it's a liberal arts school -- that's Lib. Er. Al. Arts. Dammit. -- full tilt, and not one of these high-end vocational schools that most U.S. parents want their kids to attend. Famously, the Wachowski brothers split Bard when they didn't get into the film program. One of my kid's best friends did, too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
