How do, Tony and all! Good to see R. Stevie in the mix!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:03pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Listener J! Cheyenne will be featuring R. Stevie too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 12:14pm listener james from westwood:

Banner day!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:15pm Tony Coulter:

Even though this comp is nearly 30 years old, a healthy number of the musicians on it are still quite active.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:15pm Tony Coulter:

Oh, and: Tone Dogs (on now) is an Amy Denio thingee.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

The Elvis Messiahs don't really sound like what their name suggests they would sound like....
  Tue. 7/25/17 12:26pm Dean:

The Elvis Disciples were a '90s Southern California punk band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 12:26pm Webhamster Henry:

I hear a Casio twinkling in the mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

RELEVANT TRACK

Hey hey hey, Dean and Webhamster!

Hi Tony and all you out there.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:31pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, doctorjazz!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:35pm Tony Coulter:

This Passed Normal comp series moved slowly, but inexorably from cassette to vinyl to CD. It made it up to Vol. 7.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:35pm Tony Coulter:

These vocals certainly scream '80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 12:35pm listener james from westwood:

Very much like the Something Bros track.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:40pm Tony Coulter:

Don't know if anyone remembers, but on one of the earliest Tape Hiss shows I played a demo tape by Zozobra. Their planned album never came out....
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:40pm Tony Coulter:

Their drummer is Kevin Norton
  Tue. 7/25/17 12:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello Mr. Tony!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 12:54pm Tony Coulter:

Mr. Doug! Hooray!

Sorry. Commenting on the Humanoid... mean Android App. Doesn't seem to import avatar yet.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:12pm Tony Coulter:

'Oops -- I mean."kicks off with the track 'Ready for What'."
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:15pm Tony Coulter:

Wuz eyeballing the tracklist on discgs -- but it's slightly different than my version's tracklist. That tricky R. Stevie.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

Don't forget: Cheyene will also be playing lots more Moore on today's FMA Listening Party, immediately following this show.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:18pm geezerette:

Hello Tony and alla youse!
Pretty painless Pain!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 1:21pm northguineahills:

Damn, haven't heard this R. Stevie Moore. His early stuff is gorgeous!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, NGH! There's so much R. Stevie, few mortals can have heard it all -- or even most of it
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

Keep your ear-eyes peeled for the Irwin Chusid namecheck later on in this tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 7/25/17 1:33pm doctorjazz:

More Moore!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:34pm geezerette:

This is great! All of it!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:35pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you're enjoying it!
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:44pm Mark Williams:

dubwise, selektah!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:46pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:46pm Tony Coulter:

Oops -- jumped the gun (as you can tell).
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:48pm Mark Williams:

That/this track pre-dated the famous "computerized" reggae hit Sleng Teng by three years. Just sayin...
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:48pm Mark Williams:

and heya Tony. I have to get me this cassette. I had a friend who'd joined Moore's cassette club. I have a feeling I heard this one back in the day.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:48pm Tony Coulter:

R. Stevie even puts on a bit of an island accent
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:50pm Tony Coulter:

... on that dub track, I mean....
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:52pm Mark Williams:

he's selling this on his bandcamp page as a d/l. Pricey at $9, but I might have to plum for it.
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:54pm Mark Williams:

what was his story again - his dad was a studio musician in Memphis?
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

You can just transfer the d/l to a cassette.

Yep, his father played with Elvis.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:56pm geezerette:

OMG! Scotty Moore? Wow!
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:56pm Mark Williams:

Ha, yeah that last banter he had to have taken straight out of sitting in studios and taking it all in.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

Sorry if I'm messing up the tracklist a bit -- it's a tricky m.f., and the times & titles don't always match up with what's on the thing.
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:58pm Dean:

Not Scotty Moore. Bob Moore.
  Tue. 7/25/17 1:59pm Mark Williams:

i'm following on bandcamp and you're spot on so far, Tony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 7/25/17 1:59pm doctorjazz:

I didn't know Scotty Moore was his dad...wow!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 1:59pm geezerette:

Thanks for correction. Ha, wondered why Brit accent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 7/25/17 2:00pm doctorjazz:

I looked at the Bandcamp site before...there are so many albums he has there, bit overwhelming. I like his album of Beatles covers, "Deconstructs the Beatles" or something like that.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Bob Moore played with Elvis too. And R. Stevie was born in Nashville. The vaguely British accent is put on.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:02pm geezerette:

en.wikipedia.org...
Pretty damn impressive!
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:02pm Mark Williams:

Loyce! Now there's a middle name for ya.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:03pm geezerette:

Tony, funny! I didn't even question it.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:08pm Tony Coulter:

Now I'm really messing up the tracklist!

Didn't mean to suggest that R. Stevie's dad was Scotty Moore -- it was indeed Bob Moore. But as I said, he was an Elvis sideman too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 7/25/17 2:10pm doctorjazz:

Even More Moores...
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

Or maybe everyone in Nashville played with Elvis....
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:11pm Dean:

Awaiting a band named Elvis Sidemen.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:11pm geezerette:

Bob Moore interview
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:12pm geezerette:

That would be a big band.
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:14pm Mark Williams:

i see a Ted Milton track listed! ooohhh, now I'm dead keen on this.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:20pm Tony Coulter:

Unfortunately, I'm missing the mag that came with this cassette.
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:21pm Mark Williams:

i remember someone sending me the online rants that Karl Blake would do related to Boyd Rice and others in the industrial music scene who he outed for dubious politics and philosophies. Seemed very intelligent if a bit manic in his writing.
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:23pm Mark Williams:

that's a bit different than the tea break the ladies in my office do.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:24pm Tony Coulter:

Ha!
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:26pm Mark Williams:

"Not Born Beautiful" was one of my favorite LPs from the '80s (Karl Blake's Shockheaded Peters).
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:27pm Tony Coulter:

Never had that -- guess I should seek it out!
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:27pm Mark Williams:

Tony, can you put this on pause? I need to get some coffee...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 2:28pm northguineahills:

Tony has gone mainstream today. I recognize most of the artists (a rarity on tape hiss).
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:33pm Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: I guess all the tea breaks on this tape are making you feel like you need caffeine.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:33pm Tony Coulter:

@ NGH: Nothing but the hits, all the time....
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:34pm Mark Williams:

you're fucking well right, they do.
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

Is anyone familiar with Ray Lee (on now)? I'm not.....
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:44pm Tony Coulter:

There are no hits for him on discogs, other than this tape....
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:45pm Mark Williams:

I so dearly wish there was footage of Milton in his days as a puppeteer. There's an interview where he's on site at a venue at the time, but no actual footage.
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:46pm Dean:

Was just checking myself. Was hearing a Richard Grossman kinda thing via Cecil Taylor.
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:47pm Dean:

Hmmm, I wonder if Milton is consciously alluding to Barclay James Harvest with the title...
  Tue. 7/25/17 2:48pm Mark Williams:

Love is like Milton's saxophone
Avatar    Tue. 7/25/17 2:50pm Cheyenne:

Dear Uncle Tony!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Cheyenne!
Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:52pm geezerette:

Thanks Tony. Always worth listening!

Avatar Tue. 7/25/17 2:53pm Tony Coulter:

Enjoyed the show -- thanks Tony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/25/17 2:56pm listener james from westwood:

Aw, man, those 3 hours went criminally fast! Thanks, Tony!
