Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

![]() |
![]() Welcome back! |
![]() |
![]() Too bad about Spicer, loved the Saturday Night Live routine...(Times says he actually talked back to Trump on an appointment, WOW) Welcome back, UM! |

![]() Jeff! Doc!! |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:07pm
Rich in NC:
Hi Uncle Michael, where did you say you were broadcasting from?
![]() |
![]() Shit, if Spicey did actually talk back, then he was doing his job in the interest of the American people. Rara avis in West Wing. |
![]() |
![]() Rich! Topeka, per usual. |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:09pm
Rich in NC:

![]() Among the new legal hires at the White House, this name jumped out at me: Ty Cobb. |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:10pm
Stãnley:
Digging this shit kicking music
![]() |
![]() Stanley! |
![]() |
![]() Actually, the original Ty Cobb would probably be totally in the bag for 45, based on (possibly scurrilous) tales about the guy. |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:11pm
Dean:
Heh, maybe Trump'll hire Frederick Douglass, too.
![]() |
![]() So that wasn't me just brain-farting on that name, Jeff? Weird coincidence. Esp. with the first one's rep... |
![]() |
![]() Or his friend Jim who can't go to Paris anymore. |
![]() |
![]() Gotta hire a lawyer that'll come in spikes-high. |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:12pm
Dean:
Heard a radio interview a few weeks ago with an author of a book about the original Cobb, an attempt to correct the myth of his virulent racism.
![]() |
![]() Love this Blakey track (most Blakey), do my geeky personnel thing: Bass – Reggie Workman Drums – Art Blakey Piano – Cedar Walton Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Shorter Trombone – Curtis Fuller Trumpet – Lee Morgan |

![]() geez, Doc. I guess that was the best he could do on short notice. |
![]() |
![]() Today's gif has captured my entire existence, as of late. |
![]() |
![]() Steve! |
![]() |
![]() @Dean: I'm aware of that book, and what it attempts to do, which is why I hedged a little. Print the legend, though. |
![]() |
![]() Jeez, helluva 45, this and "Sanford and Son"! |
![]() |
![]() no kidding, James! |

![]() |
![]() Safe bet. Henry! |

![]() You don't often hear Der Bingle mit steel |

![]() I went and pulled up vines and weeds in my yard, now I feel yucky. This is good resting music. |
![]() |
![]() If you gotta be hot, you might as well have umbrella drinks. |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:40pm

@Dean - heard an interview re the Cobb book |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:44pm

Same here, @ndbob. One of the arguments, iirc, is that it was hard at the time not to be racist. I simplify.

![]() |
![]() Yikes, Bob. I think 112-114 was the hottest I've experienced, and that was when I was a kid and more resilient. 89 with low humidity seems quite pleasant by comparison. |
Fri. 7/21/17 12:49pm
Dean:
We're due to hit 74F this afternoon. I'll shut up.
![]() |
![]() Heyy uncle michael and gang! |

Rather, an indecent one, @melinda.

Dean:
My copy of this Circle record is en route. Hard to believe Anthony Braxton, Chick Corea, et al., would head in this direction.
![]() |
![]() I only recently got hipped to Circle via a Brian Turner FB post. God bless WFMU. |
Fri. 7/21/17 2:06pm
Dean:
Same here. Heard it on ... somebody's ... show this week. Promptly ordered it. And God bless Southern Lord.

![]() One of these days will get to appreciate screamo (or not...) |
![]() |
![]() Is this screamo? I know not from genres. |
Fri. 7/21/17 2:14pm
Dean:
@doctorjazz, Not intentionally, no.
![]() |
![]() The instrumental part of this is cool, though. (not sure this is screamo, not processed, seems to be whispering hoarsely). |

![]() The benefits of having a teen girl. (I've been to see some bands that use screamo with her, usually alternating with "normal" vocals. Skillet use it in some songs, sort of a "flavor" or spice. (I've seen Skillet 3 times-now that my daughter goes with her friends, likely won't ever see them again). |

![]() Speaking of cooking, UM, we're in peak Greenmarket season here on the northeast, and since I am on light duty at work, I have had plenty of time to play in the kitchen. Even made a credible gumbo last weekend, as credible as possible without roux or filet powder. |

![]() Parq, you gotta try Alton Brown's roux trick. |

![]() This song always bends my brain. It's about a truck-driving man, who goes to a diner and repeatedly requests the waitress play a song called "Truck Driving Man"-- but, by all logic, it CAN'T be this song, because he's inside it. |
![]() |
![]() And this is the original version of the song, Oscar. |

![]() Taking you into the car, UM, so no typing for the next set; thanking you in advance! |

![]() Baking it, you mean, UM? |

![]() Yes...it works 100% perfectly. Simplifies the whole gumbo thing. |
