Last week I mentioned Korean girl band the Pearl Sisters (that was the name on my source) doing the Zombies cover I love you, but when you've followed Early Morning in Seoul's link to YouTube last week, it turns out that their name is Pul Sisters (just in case somebody's gonna look for that cover).

@Cecile: beat me to the punch and I completely agree. Duane played "The Conversation" and judging from that and this track, I need to know more.
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:13pm djsheilab:

@Cecile That tends to happen quite a lot doesn't it. Sometimes I'll pull out what I think is a completely unknown record, then check if it's played on WFMU, and find it was played like yesterday. Universal synchronicity I suspect!

Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:24pm fred:

Good afternoon Sheila and sophisticated ones
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:24pm Cecile:

I fricking nailed a Madonna 80s trivia challenge at trivia the other week. Between me and my neighbor we got 6 out of 7. We missed "Who's that Girl", but it sounded like every other Madonna song at the time.

Yes, they did Listener James!
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:24pm djsheilab:

WOAH....@Listener James. That memory just came rushing back!!
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:25pm βrian:

I'm pretty sure I used to see Madonna at the CCRB.
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:25pm Cecile:

True Blue started off slow, but she toured her butt off for it and it took off. This is only compared to other artists.
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:26pm listener james from westwood:

@djsheilab: Ah, so you remember too?! Glad it's not just me! They did release an official vid, too, which I barely remember.

Heya Sheila and Boomers. Mmmm, airline food ....
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:28pm Cecile:

Not me.

I worked at the same place as Madonna. She moved to NYC in summer of '81. I started a few months later. Ice cream parlor, was nice but got run into the ground. My best friend in college had her dorm room in East Quad.
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:30pm listener james from westwood:

So both Madonna and Henry Rollins had early-life ice cream parlor experience!
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:30pm Cecile:

I also worked at the same Discount Records as Iggy, but he only lasted six days fifteen years before I started there.
Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:31pm Cecile:

Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:35pm listener james from westwood:

They used to take a picture of the manager, blot hot fudge on it, then shake chocolate sprinkles over it, then put it back up, giving the manager a mustache and beard a la those Wooly Willy toys with the iron filings.

Avatar Fri. 6/16/17 3:58pm Brian Cat:

The cover of Bonnie Pink is excellent art. Contrasting shapes and colors. American covers are so often hard sell and gaudy.

In the 60's there was a famous TV-show in Holland that was watched by both children (like me) and parents. All the songs in it were written by Annie M.G. Schmidt. One of the songs was Wilt u een stekkie? (Do you want a loot?). A loot of the plant the Fuchsia. An the refrain went: of the Fuch Fuch Fuchsia. Everybody was singing, but I bet noone realized what he/she was singing.

One of those tracks (3rd or 4th?) was like vintage Shirelles. All classic stuff as 60s girl-group is a genre of its own!! Ashamed to say I wasn't familiar with this gentleman. Sheila, it's heartwarming to know the 60s is your favorite decade. I lived through all the music the first time around and it's like one of Holland/Dozier/Holland said in a documentary - and I'm paraphrasing "It's like God said let's take all the melody and all the harmony, and all the rhythm and rhyme and give it to the 60s." @Modchick TAKE OFF THE HOODIE!!! My cousin, in Vancouver, drives pop stars who visit around. He once drove onto the runway at the airport to pick up The Diamond from his private plane. He'd worked for him before. The Diamond got off the plane, got into my cousin's car and said: "Is that cigar shop still open? Let's go there" And off they went! He was a real gent, incidentally.
  Fri. 6/16/17 5:15pm modchick65:

@TheContessa. No. I literally got a ticket yesterday morning (for the show yesterday night). It was Madison Square Garden and the tickets ranged from $39.50 (behind the stage) to, like, $600. I opted to pay $50 for a ticket in the nosebleed section right next to the stage... but there were no stacks, so it was a clear side view. The section was empty and I went up (away from my seat) even higher and chilled and just watched the show and the whole of MSG. As far as I'm concerned, I had the best seat in the house.

In college, my friends and I watched The Cure's "Disintegration" tour like that. The Philly Spectrum was 1/2 full and no one was in the higher seats, so we all just ditched our seats and went up there and chilled. Really great way to watch a show. It's also really funny when you think the now-legendary "Disintegration" tour was that empty and the next tour the place was sold out. Of course, I would have rather seen Head On The Door... anyway.

At least the city he was working in let him go. Gave him a settlement so he would go away. Sigh. He should never work as an officer again. That's the least he should do. Stay the hell away from law enforcement.

Thanks again, Sheila, especially for the Brute Force hour. Always wonderful to hear the thoughts behind the songs of song writers
