That's OK.. Happy Father's Day (to all who are celebrating it).

Good morning Jeff and all. I see you have Jason lined up for a fill-in, so starting late counts as foreshadowing

That chanteuse was amazing - all good here! Now some Hank wannabe...fine.

Happy Fathers' Day, Jeff. Sounds like your making the radio dad's grand tour.

got a puppy last weekend, thought training was going well, but she showed us she was just leading us on yesterday with lots of accidents...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 9:22am Andrew Waterloo:

@Dean, it's been a really great festival. Last year Vandermark was a last minute sub for Mattz for two sets of The Thing
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:24am JtotheK:

Good Morning everyone.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:25am Dean:

@doctorjazz: By which you mean "accidents."

@Andrew Waterloo: Don't know The Thing, but Vandermark, of course. Nice photo with Hal Russell, yes?

Hi all! Commenting via iPhone is kind of a drag, so please know that I welcome each and every one of you wonderful people - and your pets.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:29am Dean:

"Commenting via iPhone is kin of a drag..." Take that, Steve Jobs!
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:30am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for soldiering through all the challenges today, Jeff.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:30am Dean:

Guess it's kind of a drag on a Chromebook, too.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:31am Jeff g.:

Don't know The Thing? Might have to play some The Thing! It's just the thing!
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:33am Dean:

Nope, don't know The Thing as such, but then I haven't read much Kant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 9:36am doctorjazz:

Don't know The Thing either... Do hate posting on my HTC10, but sometimes it's what you gotta do.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:36am Dean:

This vibraphone recital is reminding me of high school history class, when we smuggled in an oscillator and played a high frequency just above sub-audible levels. The teacher couldn't figure out what he was hearing, had to pause the lecture to ask. We 'fessed up, giggled.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:36am Jeff g.:

Wait for it....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 9:36am annie:

hey i'm here but just for a short while... All Go West today here in asheville, extended to a two-day bash! a festival still run by the people and not the city..
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 9:45am Andrew Waterloo:

The Thing is Mattz Gustafsson, Paal Nilssen-Love, and Kaker Flaten. They're most popular for their collaboration with Nenah Cherry (Dream Baby Dream, Dirt)
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:45am Dean:

Oh! That Mats! Spelling threw me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 9:46am Andrew Waterloo:

darn, I"m staring at the spelling right now.. why did I get it wrong
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:46am Dean:

(Thought maybe you meant Jeff Matz of High on Fire, which wouldn't be a bad thing.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 9:46am doctorjazz:

Know the Neneh Cherry album, great band!
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:47am Dean:

Rip, Rig & Panic, baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 9:49am doctorjazz:

This For Bags is cool... Sounds like clarinet, guitar, accordion, trombone, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 9:49am doctorjazz:

  Sun. 6/18/17 9:50am Dean:

Soprano sax?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 9:51am doctorjazz:

Sounds more like that that in the unaccompanied section, Dean
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:52am Dean:

Yeah, likely the Four Bags can play at least five instruments.
  Sun. 6/18/17 9:56am Jeff g.:

Think it's trombone on the Four Bags
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:04am doctorjazz:

  Sun. 6/18/17 10:06am Dean:

"Woodwind specialist..." Still, maybe that soprano was the prelude to the GUC piece?
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:09am Dean:

*GUO, geez.
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:10am Dean:

Heh, one of the Four Bags is the son of a local newspaper columnist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:12am doctorjazz:

Posted these on Mayuko's show yesterday, but figured I'd post them again-Ths October Revolution festival has Anthony Braxton as a part, hope I can manage to get there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:14am doctorjazz:

This Friday, at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, looks a great show (but I'll miss it)
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:14am Dean:

There was an LA punk band c.1978, The Bags, so called because for a few early shows they wore paper bags over their heads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:16am doctorjazz:

and the reason I can't make the Celebrate Brooklyn show next weekend-my friend, a Wilco fanatic, talked me into going to this next weekend...
The Shaggs will be playing there-some consider their album from the 60's one of the worst ever recorded!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:17am doctorjazz:

Now, off with Ozzie, he still gets solo time on his walk (he's not doing too badly having a "younger sibling" horn in on his turf, as long as she doesn't get close when he chews on a bone)..
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...now - some hold TheShaggs' (NewHampshuh's own, btw) 'Philosophy of hte World' album to be the most singularly unaffected Rawk music ever made...Myself, I marvel how similar its' deconstructions are to 'Trout Mask Replica', in a quite similar period...& from completely opposite directions - tho' 'Trout Mask' too is the product of a forced insularity (some say even a Cult)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:31am fred:

I actually like Sinatra
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:31am doctorjazz:

Seems even more unpolished, unprofessional, DIY than Beefheart to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 6/18/17 10:34am doctorjazz:

Never been able to "get" Sinatra, his voice doesn't do it for me. His timing use supposed to be what's special about him, but I don't really get it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:35am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

That's what I mean by 'opposite directions'...
Yeah how can you deny Frankie there? I think I tried long long ago but always really liked him too. I like Crooning. I would say phrasing more than timing exactly...Miles appreciated him, ferinstance - tho' Miles also said Prince was like the Duke or something...
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:36am Dean:

Just had leftovers for breakfast from a feast in the park hosted yesterday by parents of a friend of my son. They're sending their kid to India for boarding school next week. Family is Tibetan, but spent most of their time in India by way of Virginia and, now, Berkeley. Probably 30 attendees, but catering would have satisfied twice that number. Tibetan, Indian, and Moroccan fare. The hot sauce was so delightfully caustic that I'm crying.

Saw Sinatra live during one of his "New York, New York" tours. Caught him on a good night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:37am Andrew Waterloo:

Somewhere between Trout Mask and Philosophy you'll find The Fall.
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:38am Dean:

I put The Fall somewhere between Motorhead and Scriabin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:39am fred:

Looks like MES is always in the middle of something
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gotta get the right period Frankie.
Whereas TheFall - always different, always the same as the mans said...
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:42am Dean:

I think Sinatra was predictably on the wane during the period when I heard him, but the evening we heard him he delivered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:44am Andrew Waterloo:

The Fall has that combination of amateurism and manipulative ring leader.
Avatar Sun. 6/18/17 10:45am glenn:

sorta like the present white house.
  Sun. 6/18/17 10:46am Dean:

...but with charm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:46am fred:

A friend once interviewed MES, in a bar. Before they started, MES went and got two pints. My friend was like "wow, he's actually a nice guy". Both pints were for him, though. Guy's a planner
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:47am fred:

Prime PJ Harvey cut right there
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:52am fred:

That tour was the only time I saw PJ Harvey live. I was sick that day, but her performance made me feel great while it was going on.
Joe McPhee covering PJ Harvey? That's so cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 10:53am Andrew Waterloo:

I really enjoyed PJ's last tour.

  Sun. 6/18/17 11:07am Dean:

Not meant to hear The Thing, I guess. Was picking up my son from a sleepover during that part of set. To the archives...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 6/18/17 11:09am fred:

SK's show is Paris was a personal milestone. I got a ticket, though it was expensive by my standards. I got laughed at for this, mainly about how Carrie Brownstein is a mainstream hallmark of conformity. That's when I knew I was officially old
Avatar Sun. 6/18/17 11:11am glenn:

huh. i think i knew i was officially old when i had my first prostate exam.
  Sun. 6/18/17 11:11am Dean:

I recognize that I'm officially adult, but I've never felt officially old.
  Sun. 6/18/17 11:12am Dean:

However, when I had back trouble a couple weeks ago, my 11YO proclaimed, "Oh, no! My dad is getting old!"
Avatar Sun. 6/18/17 11:12am glenn:

yeah, the mind still feels 19 or so. the body, not so much.
  Sun. 6/18/17 11:13am Dean:
