Greetings all! I'll be debuting a new feature today, after this first set: the best of my basement LP boxes.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:03pm Tony Coulter:

The best ... and the weirdest....

Greetings all and specially...Tony

Happy Tuesday, Tony and all! Bring on the basement boxes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 12:05pm JtotheK:

hi tony, hi everyone. i look forward to this new feature! will there be any private press lounge acts in those basement boxes?
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:06pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Psychspaniolos, Listener J, and JtotheK!!!
  Tue. 5/16/17 12:06pm Yvang:

Hi Tony and listeners!
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

@ JtotheK: There will absolutely be private-press lounge acts -- tho not today. Today it'll mostly be AORish stuff.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:08pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Yvang!
  Tue. 5/16/17 12:10pm Dean:

About time somebody spun Morgan!

Hola! Love the Gustav Holst cover.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:13pm Tony Coulter:

Well, "The Planets" is the ultimate proto-prog.
  Tue. 5/16/17 12:15pm Dean:

If that's the case, then Jean-Féry Rebel's "Le Chaos" from Les Elemens (another "The..." title) from first half of 18thC is proto-proto-prog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 12:17pm JtotheK:

@Tony, got it - thanks! I look forward to 'the best and the weirdest' - and the basement LPs feature in general. And I shudder at the "worst of the weirdest" should you decide to feature the worst of the basement boxes because we aren't behaving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 12:17pm doctorjazz:

Hi all!

Heya, doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 12:22pm doctorjazz:

This is cool (of course, I have absolutely NO recollection of Morgan from my 70's listening; they're pretty cool, in that Prog Yes vein, which I didn't actually follow that closely, was into hippie stuff...)
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

Morgan was led by Morgan Fisher -- a many of many hats .. including hippie hats.

Cul-de-sac to Heaven
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:39pm Tony Coulter:

Listening to all these records over the last week has given me a sense of what it must have been like to be a small-town stoner in the '70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 12:40pm Cecile:

yeah, playing covers at HS dances while your magnum opus was in your basement.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:40pm Tony Coulter:

Hey hey hey, Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 12:41pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 12:41pm Cecile:

  Tue. 5/16/17 12:49pm Dean:

Suspiciously Rush-like, these American "patriots."
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

They were cuter than Rush, though.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:51pm Tony Coulter:

They're real metal-ish glamour boys with eyeliner and poofy hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 12:53pm northguineahills:

Everything after Vanilla Fudge is new to me...
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:54pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, NGH!

I'd actually be surprised if anyone knew any of the bands in this set -- tho I'd love to hear from you if have heard of any of 'em.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 12:57pm Tony Coulter:

Or, I mean, if you're familiar with any one of them. Maybe they were the toast of your town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 12:58pm Cecile:

The only band that was the toast of my town was a combo called Dodge Street. Pride of the Copper Country. Probably didn't even record.
  Tue. 5/16/17 12:58pm Psychspaniolos:

I am not
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 1:00pm doctorjazz:

Not a one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 1:01pm doctorjazz:

Though Whit Light sounds like I SHOULD have heard of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 1:01pm Cecile:

This band sound exclusively influenced by CanCon.
  Tue. 5/16/17 1:02pm Dean:

My town hosted Eulogy, the guitarist for which went on to become Paul McCartney's regular guitarist. Eulogy was glam-ish, yet was featured in the first issue of Flipside fanzine. And Volker, Dunham & Heard, a trio at my high school who performed music for the drama department's production of Ibsen's Peer Gynt. They made at least one EP, of which I have a copy. "Military Man."
  Tue. 5/16/17 1:02pm Psychspaniolos:

Van N-eyes...home of the original Moby Disc, once a prog Mecca.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 1:07pm Tony Coulter:

I think I just said the Fist LP was from '71 -- should have said '79! (I blame my handwriting.)
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 1:08pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks for the White Light bio, you two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 1:09pm Cecile:

This might be the same band. They are from the right area:

"Dodge Street Band - SOUTH DAKOTA b/w unknown (Key Wee 001). Label is based in Lake Linden, the credited writer of the song is Roger Laub, Jr. - other than that, I know nothing."

Avatar    Tue. 5/16/17 1:56pm Rich in Washington:

Wow. I had no idea someone had issued this stuff under that name. Too cool! Is this mainly the stuff originally available as either The Warner Album and/or Baby Sex?
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 1:57pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Rich! Yeah, a lot of it is that stuff -- but there are other things as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 5/16/17 1:58pm JtotheK:

enjoying the program - going to have to catch the last hour via archives. thanks tony!
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar    Tue. 5/16/17 1:58pm Rich in Washington:

and I am just now figuring out that the names we thought we knew the individual Residents as are maybe also pseudonyms? Too weird.
Did you see the Theory of Obscurity film?
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 2:00pm Tony Coulter:

I did see "Theory of Obscurity," yes. I enjoyed it, except for the fact that it focused too much on recent years for my tastes.
Avatar    Tue. 5/16/17 2:02pm Rich in Washington:

Yep. That's my gripe. That's usually the case with documentaries about musicians. To get access, one must focus on their current output, even though it's rarely as interesting.

I love this song! I sing it in my head often at work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/16/17 2:07pm northguineahills:

Love this Deerhoof album. Until the (re)release of the Delta Nudes last year, I'd only read about their recordings...
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 2:08pm Tony Coulter:

This is not an mp3 -- damn you, autofill!
Avatar    Tue. 5/16/17 2:15pm Rich in Washington:

Beta-lactam Ring is a fun label. Sad to see its proprietor move out of town.
Avatar    Tue. 5/16/17 2:16pm Rich in Washington:

hopefully won't abate output, quality or frequency-wise.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 2:19pm Tony Coulter:

Yeah, hope not. By the by, Drummer stream fill-in supremo Thom Jones (DDDJJJ666) has released his own music on Beta-lactam Ring under a pseudonym: www.discogs.com...
Avatar    Tue. 5/16/17 2:20pm Rich in Washington:

whoa. I had no idea. Mr. Jones is as modest as he is strange.
Avatar Tue. 5/16/17 2:24pm Tony Coulter:

It's sort of in a Nurse with Wound vein -- and quite good!
