Really, ya gotta tighten up security around there.

Lightbulbs, more light, that would help a LOT.

Hiya, Bill.

@Bill: The pic on your playlists page was used for a music festival at work a few years ago. We peons had some fun saying it symbolized the effort to stop time while in a precarious position, as people in the street don't give a fuck

Anyone got a pan and brush?
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 12:14pm Bill Mac:

Ah yes, hammered dulcimer - a band that eventually comes to mind that uses it - Taraf de Haidouks.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 1:16pm Stanley:

@ coelacanth∅ - I thought a "high ball" was a type of glass, rather than a drink. I might be wrong
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 1:17pm Bill Mac:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 4/22/17 1:20pm coelacanth∅:

hey P-90! how ya been? - hopefully also not extinct. (that's guitar pick-up, no?)
  Sat. 4/22/17 1:22pm P-90:

A "Highball" can be either a cocktail or a glass or neither, depending on your context and your anatomy
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 4/22/17 1:23pm coelacanth∅:

Stanley that's feasible. it was probably my parents' own code -like they always used that type of glass for a particular drink.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 4/22/17 1:26pm coelacanth∅:

okay, i cheated and it looks like P-90's correct. the drink is the simplest mixed drink, ie: liquor with one non-alcoholic beverage added.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 4/22/17 1:26pm mauri:

I see you have no pants Bill. Would you be interested in purchasing a bicycle for some wheeling activities?

I'll take a stab at Latin American horn use...In the 30s and 40s, pop was dominated by big bands, both in Amareican Music and Latin American music, and there was lots of cross over, with Latin Big bands getting play and popularity in the US (to the point that Ricky Ricardo, Lucy's husband, became a TV celebrity). Pop tastes diverged, though, Louis Jordan streamlined jazz, and Bill Haley and others replaced the horns with guitar/bass/drums, which was more DIY, edgier, easier to manage and less expensive to tour with. Latin Music continued on to Salsa and other dance music, which remained horn and big band centric (economics probably played a roll; after the war, travelling with a big band in the US became much more expensive, the Union got more pay for players, and very few big bands survived). The fact that horn based music remained pop/dance music in Latin America kept that kind ot band front and center.
(made this all up, but seems logical).

Thank you for what seems to me to make perfect sense @doctorjazz.
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:25pm Fran:

Yes that was the vegetarian option Bill!
Avatar    Sat. 4/22/17 2:25pm Sem Chumbo:

Seriously, where's the Beef if it not on ZzzzzzeroHour? ;-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 4/22/17 2:26pm Dave in Vermont:

The Gibbs could write a song.
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:26pm Fran:

Final comment for tonight other than thanks and goodbye until next time is - am I imagining it that Ry Cooder must have modelled his singing on Percy Sledge - first time I've made the connection!
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:30pm Bill Mac:

@Dave - Yes indeedy - too bad they turned into the stylized hit machine later in their careers. They were just so good in the late 60s/early 70s.
Avatar    Sat. 4/22/17 2:31pm Sem Chumbo:

See again sometime, Fran!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:31pm doctorjazz:

Pretty aggressive, soulful Darin here.
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:32pm Bill Mac:

Tanks for the insight Fran!

Making Believe is one of the best country songs.
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:46pm Bill Mac:

The Haggard version?

Just before Bed , here`s a short hello from Cologne to everyone and you ,Bill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:47pm melinda:

All versions that I've heard. I think Kitty Wells sang it also.
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:47pm Bill Mac:

M&B Hey! Pleasant dreams then!!!
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:48pm Bill Mac:

So it's like a standard. I really need to flesh out my knowledge of country music
Sat. 4/22/17 2:49pm Michael and Bela:

Thank you, have a good week. until your next Fill-IN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:50pm melinda:

Me too, Bill! I think I had not heard Merle's version until now.
Avatar    Sat. 4/22/17 2:51pm Sem Chumbo:

This last set has lacked nothing for me. Thanks, Bill, and all. May 5th it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:51pm fred:

@melinda: I think Kitty Wells' version is my favorite. Former (and sorely missed by me) DJ Laura Cantrell had a nice cover too on her "Kitty Wells Dresses" record, which I like a lot
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:51pm Bill Mac:

M&B Will do! Two weeks from now, same time same station!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:54pm melinda:

@fred I'll have to look for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:55pm melinda:

btw, is Cantrell pronounced with the accent on the first or last syllable?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:56pm doctorjazz:

1st syllable.
Thanks, Bill, enjoyed the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:57pm doctorjazz:

Miss Laura's show as well... Used to listen to her on WKCR before she came to FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:57pm melinda:

thanks dr.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/22/17 2:57pm fred:

@melinda: no idea. Maybe check her archives, though I don't remember whether she said her own name on the air
Avatar Sat. 4/22/17 2:57pm Bill Mac:

Thanks DJ, read your insights quickly on Latin music. Will review again when I have time to breathe!
