Sem, I know but we are also thinking of moving now that the birds (non chickens ) have left the nest. It would be great to have a space outside the back door.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/17/17 9:18am Brian in UK:

Sem, chickens produce miracles every day and were in battery-like conditions before we 'rescued' them so they are tough old birds in more ways than one. We are the ones needing counselling.

@βrian: No idea. The second round should be easy for me though: I'll go vote for whoever runs against Le Pen, though I'll dislike the other choice. Weirdly, Mélenchon would be worse for me, because although he's the supposed leftist, I can't stand nationalism
Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:08am Passaic River Blues:

@Joe&Fred: it was on Scott's 1998 comeback record. There may have been an alternative version on some import vinyl, but it's been too long and I really don't remember.

Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:09am The Oscar:

I was working in a used record store when Prince died, and we couldn't keep ANYTHING in the store. We had a bunch of overstock copies of Emancipation which we couldn't previously get $8 in the store, which we soon realized could fetch up to $150 online. It was INSANITY.
Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:10am fred:

@βrian: Who does this? My father always assumed any US politician would be right-wing in France. Bernie would be on the left fringe by now, here
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/17/17 11:12am coelacanth∅:

my favorite Prince is the stuff that was never officially released; the outtakes and demos that Kurt and Matt (mostly) played last year on their tribute shows.
it opened me up to how brilliant he really was. i liked him but his radio stuff never hit me like that.
Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:13am βrian:

Some of the US news sites that bother to cover foreign politics. Bernie is liberal, but he's a pragmatist. And I don't think he's interested in power per se. That's rare in the U.S.

Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:20am The Oscar:

@Tim That's about what we probably could have gotten for it just before he died (sealed!). Afterward, we just kept bumping it by $5, thinking it couldn't possibly sell... and then it would sell within half an hour. I did the math, and we made a couple grand in Prince sales over the course of about a week.

@The Oscar: I love how Prince contributed to keep record stores open. I don't like that it took his death for it to happen, but that's an appropriate topic for Easter

I really feel that derek and the dominoes suck except for this song which is great!

Brian, Clarence White's connection to D&B was Gram Parsons.

I'm friends with Bobby Whitlock on facebook. He's still playing and writing with his wife. He had a solo album around the same time as Layla that featured Clapton and the other Dominoes.

Oy did someone die???
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/17/17 11:29am Brian in UK:

@KP do you have a copy of GP & the Fallen Angels - Live 1973?
Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:30am The Oscar:

@fred It's a somewhat ghoulish fact that notable deaths would usually cause a spike in sales, but Prince was on another level entirely. I think it's because even the most diehard fans would have gaps in their collections, given the MASSIVE amount of output. Still, the sales were really good for the store-- sort of a last gift :) The only drag was we didn't have any left to play in the store!

Speaking of Gram Parsons

@KP: Just for you, KP!

Why does this great song have such a bad name? "Hot Burrito??" Always wondered if theres a good story there or if they were just being lazy.

Gram Parsons

@Planet Tyler: I wonder! I think it's just musician humor.

i dont think i ever got that one Brian despite fact it was recorded about a 10 minute drive from me. it was live in a studio

Larry Hosford. If you love country(-ish) rock, play some Larry Hosford.

Amoeba near me is losing about 1/3 of its footprint. Pot dispensary going in, I think.

Brian, i never went for that recording that much. his band was sort of lacking live, i thought.

D&D is the worst of EC

Duane is the reason they had one Great album.

@fred - and there's also Kurt Vonnegut: "We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different."
Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:48am The Oscar:

I'd actually be pretty okay with Eric Clapton if you excised everything recorded under his own name. Imagine a world where EC was just this legendary-but-obscure sideman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/17/17 11:48am Brian in UK:

@KP I cannot disagree, they were a pickup band so take that as a no.
Avatar    Mon. 4/17/17 11:49am Joe McG:

@TO: I just find him a bit boring on his own, bar a song here and there. But Derek and the Dominoes kills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/17/17 11:50am coelacanth∅:

Clapton was good as long as there was an excellent musician there for him to compete with.
  Mon. 4/17/17 11:51am Dean:

Pretty much total agreement with @Joe McG up there @11:49. Some of the stuff with George Harrison works, too. D&D was a band that clicked. Something went right on that album. But I can understand folks tiring of an overplayed "Layla."

@Dean: No doubt that "Layla" has been murdered by overplay. @fred: He's pretty dull when he's not lusting after his best friend's wife!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/17/17 11:55am coelacanth∅:

i don't mind virtuosity if it's not for the sake of virtuosity. Clapton bores me because he's not creative. he just mimics.

Here's to the worker bees who dance well but without virtuosity. It's not about them, after all. It's about where the nectar is.
