Morning everybody!

"A little traveling music, Sam" this morning in honor of today's obvious-from-the-GIFs theme? Interrupted journey? The road not taken? Up, up, and away with you?
  7:55am FʶFʶ (:

Welcome back, Ken!

Glad to read you. Did you have a buena vida in Costa Rica?

Talking about CR I read in one Central American newspaper last week that police are searching for an unknown American man who bought 127 million pesos in toucanets in the black market.

Coincidentally 127 million pesos is equivalent to the marathon money WFMU raised just few weeks ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am -Ken:

Hello f0f0 and Robert - I had what I thought were three toucanets but it turned out they were really aracarias, so I was dragged from the plane and maimed. But I guess I kinda deserved it. Aracarias and Toucanets look really different.
  8:25am Listener Robert:

So you playing something about a Louisville Slugger? Woo, woo, which doctor...gets tossed? Musical chairs, full contact version? Sittin' on the doc over the cargo bay, wasting everybody's time? He's got a ticket to ride, but we don't care?

Mueran Hermanos' El Circulo is one hell of an epic song (and a take on the Brits). But that one just played wasn't El Circulo.

Last week's People Like Us's show was sensational! A shame I missed it live (alas no one told me!). As usual, very intricate and gorgeous music.

P.S. THE MUUUUUFFIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINSSSS!!!Another song that demonstrates Ken has perfect taste for instrumentals.By the way, PLU has perfect taste for instrumentals WITH lyrics.

Yes, f0f0, for many years I played almost entirely instrumentals. Vocal music is a recent addition to my show. generally dont like most male vocals.

The one thing I love about most of the great instrumentals Ken plays is that they never tire me. There are tons of great songs with vocal music that Ken plays and I really love but after listening to them over the years most of tend to bore me. But with instrumentals songs this never happens! They always stay classic and fresh! Does this only happen to me?

I don't know if this happens to

I was shocked that the "Irving Klaw Trio" track was NOT accompanied by a Betty gif. Did you do Ayahuasca in South America or something? What's wrong with you?!
  9:58am FʶFʶ (:

My favourite part of the The Irving Klaw Trio is the typo. This is the only song that I can think of at the moment that has a typo in the lyrics. Singer sings "sangre en mis 'veginas', instead of "sangre en mis venas".

Yep. And according to some sources, they could have been very easily accommodated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Passaic River Blues:

I had not heard of Christie's latest hypocrisy. Recall that his buddy and MTA consigliere, David Samson, admitted last year to accepting bribes from United and setting up what was basically a private route from Newark, NJ to a rural South Carolina airport near Samson's summer house. United has an almost complete monopoly on space and slots at Newark Airport, and was forced by the pre-Sessions DOJ to make moves to avoid pissing all over anti-trust laws.

ONLY 283 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTIE IS MERELY A SHITTY SPORTS COMMENTATOR & NOT A FAKE GOVERNOR.

There's a "burlin" in VT, spelled "Berlin."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am JP from KC:

In Missouri alone, we have Cairo, pronounced "KAY-Row," Nevada, pronounced "Nuh-VAY-duh," and Versailles, pronounced "Ver-SAILS."

Sounds like the WFMU elevator!

Dr Ben Casey never got stuck in an elevator!

No. The best movie is that Bresson movie about the nice donkey who gets treated like crap by everyone but a few nice French kids.

Non-sequitur & gripe of the day:
Anyone else think that belonging in the same dungeon with United Airlines reps are the writers of the terms and summary perspectives being tossed around in John Geils obits? ...such as "best known for the J. Geils Band's No. 1 hit, "Centerfold," That's their biggest-selling and highest charting, sure, but to claim "best known for" seems to give a dismissive and oversimplifying beatdown to huge important facts of band and public awareness history and drag those facts down the aisle of music history and eject them. Maybe it's another age-of-reporter thing, but
"best known for" is almost ALWAYS a bad choice.
Avatar 11:31am Cecile:

Exactly.
I like better, "although well-known for this, such-and-such inserted an influence far beyond it. (insert rich history and fan tributes)"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Uncle Michael:

J. Geils; lead guitarist for the eponymous J. Geils band, who's biggest hit was "Centerfold".

That's limited to statements of fact and makes no assumptions about what the reader knows.

Hmm....Last time Ken played the Makers of the Dead Travel Fast song everybody jumped in excitement Now no one bats an eyelid!

@JakeGould: I love that movie! It's called "Francis in the Navy."

The Rolling Stone obit makes the peculiar choice of hyphenating "Love-Stinks." Which turns it into a plural noun, which is WAY grosser.

Also, Peter Wolf was a regular at the record store I used to work at, and we'd always joke about whistling the riff from "Freeze Frame" as we wrote him up. Probably everyone who's worked in a record store in Boston in the past 30 years could tell you a few good Peter Wolf stories.

In the Midwest, they were legends as a live band. Our regular boring AM station would play hunks of the live album from time to time.
