Live performance and interview with Viking Moses and Hamish Hawk

WFMU Hawk Massei
Hamish Hawk with Viking Moses
For many years Baltimore-based Viking Moses (aka Brendan Massei) has been releasing lyrical songs performed with gruffly delicate vocals, accompanied by various configurations of solo rhythmic electric guitar, simple piano or a full band. Viking Moses has also championed a number of Scottish musicians. Hamish Hawk is his latest find, and they've been touring the US together. Edingurgh-based Hawk's solo shows are described as "a colourful and confident display of wit, charm and sensitivity as a songwriter-- A natural storyteller. Schedules being what they are, a WFMU session didn't work out with the duo while they were in the NYC area, so they recorded a special set in Brendan's home studio. Viking Moses and Hamish Hawk "performed" for Irene's show.

Good evening, Irene
  Tue. 4/11/17 9:03pm Eugene R.:

Viking Moses splits the North Sea, I presume.
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 9:06pm Irene Trudel:

Good evening KP! Checking in early, I see. Eugene, he doesn't exactly split the North Sea, but brings us someone from the northern reaches of the UK.

  Tue. 4/11/17 9:38pm Bruce S.:

Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 9:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Any relation to DJ Micah Moses? (I suspect not.)
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 9:44pm Irene Trudel:

No Ken, I don't think there's a relation. Sad about J.Geils, but I don't think I'll be playing anything by him. Hi Santos and Bruce. (By the way, I actually forgot you sent that in the swirl of the Marathon. Forgive my lapse!)
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 9:47pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yes, sad indeed. I'm sure Clay Pigeon will fit in a couple J. Geils songs in the morning. That's right in his wheelhouse.
  Tue. 4/11/17 9:56pm Bruce S.:

that's ok- most happy the marathon was a success- I sent it on 3/16
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 10:42pm Howard F:

Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 11:35pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Just peeked skyward and the full moon up there is not nearly as pink as this playlist. Pink moon in name only. Sad!
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 11:38pm Irene Trudel:

Ahoooo! Now I know why this night felt so nutty.
  Tue. 4/11/17 11:47pm KP:

In Life magazine, Elvin Jones profusely praised Moon's performance on that track and bad mouthed everybody else offered. No names but one was the drummer of Cream.
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 11:55pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for that, KP!
Avatar Tue. 4/11/17 11:57pm Irene Trudel:

G'Night all! Catch you next week.
Avatar Wed. 4/12/17 7:51am Sean in Bristol UK:

Thanks Irene, a fab show as always
