Irwin's dedication today reminds me of what my friend Bill "Meridian" once said he wanted to do: stand in the middle of the Holland Tunnel in a diver's suit alongside some fish mobiles and pantomime swimming.

Hoboken Jack:

I wonder if anyone has ever segued from Juliana Hatfield to the McCoys.
  3:08pm

One of the tracks on Hatfield's upcoming album is called "Kellyanne," and another is called "Short-Fingered Man."

@listener Robert: I'm sure it's already been done, probably in the 20s. or the 90s. ;-)

happy valley is fabulous. although not very happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Irwin:

Just finished FX's TABOO. Wonderful and grisly.
  3:38pm
Listener Robert:

I recommend "Lost" if you're a fan of mysteries well versed in the genre, and accept that it really is a mystery that very strongly misleads the audience while giving clues, and withholds the solution, pretending it wasn't even a mystery.
Avatar 3:38pm
Sem Chumbo:

@glenn, not, I guess, the Happy Valley of " and Goose Bay."
The *not very happy* makes me wonder if it is, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Ike:

Also if you like animation, Samurai Jack is back. That's a 10(-ish)-year-old classic, just now revived so it can be concluded. And I respectfully disagree on Lost, as it doesn't end up going anywhere and clearly wasn't planned out properly in advance. Some good characters, though.
  3:39pm
Listener Robert:

Plus, a lot of the ostensible exposition on "Lost" is unreliable.
Avatar 3:40pm

Ike...First couple seasons had esp. great art. Guess there was a Samurai Jack marathon a cable recently...
Avatar 3:42pm

Itzall Ablurr:

Gotta' agree with Ike about "LOST", I binge-watched the first couple of seasons, well written, good characters, plot (such as it was), etc.. but. At the end it was limping along and pretty much a disappointment. Now, "RIVERDALE"- that's a fun watch! Sexy stuff for "Archie" and the gang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Ike:

@LOT, this past Saturday's new episode of Samurai Jack probably topped all others artistically. Gorgeous, sad, a real stunner.

Avatar 3:55pm
Bertolt Brecht:

Oy vey.
  3:55pm
Listener Robert:

Ike, the only reason you think "Lost" wasn't planned out, and that it didn't go anywhere, was that you, like everyone else in the audience except me AFAIK, failed to solve it. You probably didn't get that the ending was not supposed to be a revelation, but just one more set of clues.
  3:57pm
Listener Robert:

Of course I had an enormous advantage in having been a friend of the show's creator for years before, knowing his predilections, and even introducing him to some things that turned up in "Lost". It's like he made it for me.
Avatar 3:58pm
Roberto:

What would happen if Thundercat and Tacocat got together and made kittens?
  3:58pm
Listener Robert:

But even with those advantages, for a couple years after "Lost" ended its run, I thought we'd been had. Then I picked up some more clues from Arthur Conan Doyle, and pieces of the puzzle started falling into place again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
KevinfromBayRidge:

No offense UM but I consider myself a Chusidian.

Listener Robert:

For a "running" analysis by me of "Lost", users.bestweb.net... . I should update it soon with its cx to "North by Northwest" and "Ozma of Oz".
  4:03pm

It does have a little cx with Doyle's "The Lost World", but it's much closer to, and named after, his "The Lost Special".
