John Hollenbeck's Claudia Quintet's last appearance was several years ago but they're still a personal favorite. To describe the quintet, I'll quote Howard Reich of The Chicago Tribune: "Innovative jazz does not have to be harsh, angry, loud, shrill or grating; it can be delicate, witty, ethereal and radiantly lyric, as the Claudia Quintet pointed out..." . "Led by versatile percussionist John Hollenbeck...The band reveled in unusual harmony, unorthodox instrumentation and unconventional structure, but the music addressed the ear gently." |
