Diggin' out after the overnight blizzard. Thanks for the Lightning Hopkins. Good morning, Jim, fred, Sebastian, and GfC.

Clïff in Prägůe:

"Dobré odpoledne" is supposed to be how you say "good afternoon" in Czech.... but I never hear that, instead people just say "Dobrý den" ("good day!") no matter what time of day it is.
  6:14am

Torbjørn:

Robot bees will be the end of us all, obviously. As is the case in general with all things robotic. Seems like the only reasonable reaction is to hit back with robot humans, which I guess I'll call romans. Or hubots, your choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am

hey jim the p! sorry i missed yesterday. do you read from your bulging sac of mail in this slot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36am
Sebastian:

What kind of honey would robot bees make?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36am
dale:

magnetic honey
  6:40am
sim:

Robotic bees would act as pollinators. The question I have is of security. I assume the bees would need to be networked for coordination and control. I would think it would be relatively easy to pervert the swarm for your own purposes, like the webcam DDOS attack from a few months ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41am
dale:

114! she must have looked like a ghurkin!
  6:42am

Still, having your own swarm of robot bees... imagine a defensive cloud of them.

There's a great and incredibly scary Black mirror episode involving artificial (drone) bees. @sim your comment is close to the plot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47am

nanotechnology means robotic fire ants and leeches and mosquitos spreading polonium poisoning. i care not for such a world.
  6:47am
Cooh John:

"When Robot Bees Attack!"
  6:47am
sim:

But the robot bees would almost certainly be limited to pollinating cash crops, no wild flora pollination.
  6:49am
sim:

If robot bees could also be used for pest management, it could decrease the use of pesticides which could allow the living bee population to bounce back.
  6:52am
sim:

@dale, we're not talking about evolving robots. What's the economic incentive to make robot fire ants? As for killing people, there are already cost-effective and more easily implemented methods and technology.

Caveat emptor on the robot bees. Whenever man comes up with 'a great idea' there are side effects: DDT, thalidamide, fossil fuel burning, trumpocracy, et. al. ad nauseum.
