Shout-out to Monica who filled in for Sheila B this afternoon…Also shouts/thanks to both Shut Up Weirdo's Frangry + Michele and Downtown Soulville's Mr Fine Wine for giving me their respective hours last week to enable me to do full 3 hour Best of 2016. That last year. This is another year - perhaps the most critical and unpredictable year of our collective lifetimes: one in which shit could go (even more) horribly wrong. OR conversely it could be the best most awake/aware creative/inspired and inspiring year of our lives. It is up to us: we can collectively guide it and our combined destinies into upwardly positive & forward thinking terrain in which we rise above the haters and trolls and via unity of all races, ages, and religions via the artform of HIP-HOP. Hence we kick off this new year of WFMU shows with "Put Needle on The New Mindset Thru Intergenerational Hip-Hop Unity" featuring Stockton, CA hip-hop father/son guests Plado and BudBud Awesome (pictured on this playlist). BudBud Awesome is the 10 year old rappin son of veteran Bay Area hip-hopper Plado who many came to know back in the mid 90's underground hip-hop circles when their ahead-of-its time Bay Area hip-hop crew Twisted Mind Kids who got slept on by the masses but loved by those with an ear for real music and the commitment to go digging to track down their underground releases like the landmark 90's West Coast hip-hop record "Twisted Mind State" (1996 on No Exit Records) including tracks such as "True Hip-Hop" and "Blurred Vision" - please join in the comments with your guide to getting thru 2017

Hi Billy, thank you for always bringing knowledge and love on to the air-waves. I am a public school teacher who is co-leading a one-week class on Hip Hop & Masculinity, and we are in need of 4-5 men (or masculine-identifying folks) to speak on a panel on January 20th at 1:30PM. The speakers will visit my school, Harvest Collegiate, and discuss masculinity, identity, and hip hop: How do you define masculinity? What role does hip hop play in your identity?
If you or someone you know would be interested in speaking on the panel, please e-mail me at lucas@harvestcollegiate.org
It is a great opportunity to learn from 24 NYC teenagers between the ages of 14-18. Plus, you'll feel like an amazing person afterwards because our kids are lit.
