Nice Mysteries of Love track. Of course the name reminded me of Blue Velvet, so I'm happy I like the music. I can hear why a listener said it reminded him of Keiji Haino

Nice to hear Yair Yona on the station. I like this album

What a coincidence that I would tune in at 4:20

you can kind of see why Beatles fans were a bit freaked out by Yoko...

Beatles fans and actual Beatles both...

beng someone who avoided the screaming hordes, i was glad to see them diversify their talent. this album brought "avant garde" into the limelight. radical, man! 1970, i think..

Mark R:

When FMU was playing Pauline Oliveros recently you could see where the inspiration for "Revolution 9" came from. They were into a lot of things besides rock and roll. John wasn't the only one.

annie:

i even recall wonderful alternative instrumentals in the mid-60s on radio. not sure which stations anymore. FM was the wilderness for experimental recordings' wanderings. i dug it even then, maybe just to be different, i have no idea, i just got so tired of top 100 and pop music.
  5:09am
Mark R:

Most of the early freeform stations drifted into it from the fringes, modern classical music, foreign-language programming. Then they'd decide, well, we'll let some hippies come on from midnight til 6 or whatever...

annie:

i was lucky to have been listening to stations out of NYC. and there were many late-night AM stations from all over the country i could hear. i always rejoiced in the unusual and over-the-edge. i was an odd duck; still am, i guess
  5:13am
Mark R:

I actually got into classical music because rock radio in Michigan had gotten so terrible I'd listen to the classical stations in between my Elvis Costello, Talking Heads and Miles Davis records!

smorgasbord of notes!

it was a blessing in disguise

you still there, fred? forgot to mention about that Richard Pinhas gig i saw a couple of days after seeing you in Paris, it was pretty excellent (Etienne Jaunet was with him); reminded by an email that's just arrived about him reforming Heldon and touring (not so sure about that!)

annie:

oh, for sure! ...i was the only one in 8th grade music class who dug classical and jazz..i thank my parents' wide taste, too. we learned to love by osmosis.
  5:18am
Mark R:

yes, my parents were jazz lovers, and my mom would also play classical, opera, even show tunes while she was doing housework
Avatar 5:18am
annie:

you and i had the same parents, i'm sure. silence is golden, but beats rock!
  5:19am
Mark R:

The first rock music she liked was Cream, because Ginger Baker was the only drummer she found interesting
Avatar 5:22am
annie:

my mother tolerated the pop stuff, it kept us occupied in the car. and, as a mother myself, i kinda dug the pop stuff in the 80s when my son was growing up, although he was happy to listen to my choices, too. he branched out when nirvana came on the scene. sadly, i shut that stuff all out and regretted not really embracing it then. i DID pay attention, just didn't seek it out ..
