Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Uncle Michael is the DJ that other DJs listen to and say, "why didn't I think to play that?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:17pm JP from KC:

They literally JUST moved me to mornings. My first show in the new day part is Monday.
  Fri. 12/2/16 12:17pm 67tele:

@DS: hear hear
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:19pm JP from KC:

As "another DJ," I second Doug's comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:20pm Webhamster Henry:

That Yamasuki tune reminds me of a Scrabble game I once played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:20pm JP from KC:

No problem! I'll certainly appreciate you tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:30pm JP from KC:

On an only somewhat related note, it was nice to hear something from Brownsville Station besides "Smoking in the Boys Room" for a change. And a great track, at that!
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:31pm βrian:

Gotta love a twangy voice-over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:35pm Webhamster Henry:

Sometime I should send you some Dutch Trucker Songs that Bart Plantenga sent me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

What, I gotta beg?
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:38pm listener james from westwood:

Nixon's only gonna give Johnnie some cottage cheese and ketchup or something just as depressing.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:39pm Wilson K:

Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:39pm Wilson K:

PS the Kinks invented Rock and Roll as we know it
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 12:40pm Uncle Michael:

Wilson! Holland!
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:40pm Jeff Golick:

Yup.
Avatar    Fri. 12/2/16 12:41pm holland oats:

I love how this song jumps into "My Woman From Tokyo" for a bit.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:42pm Wilson K:

I mean I was so floored by the Beatles when I was like 14, and then I really got into the Kinks 15 years later and I could not believe I ever thought the Fab Four were the apogee of British Rock
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:45pm chromaphone:

Wow, so you are saying The Kinks are the apogee of British Rock Wilson? Interesting.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:46pm Alex In Illinois:

There is a Green River in Illinois. There is also a brand of soda or "pop" called Green River available in Illinois.
Avatar    Fri. 12/2/16 12:48pm hyde:

hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

Chrome! Hyde!
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:51pm Wilson K:

@chromaphone, not at all, just that they are 486% better than the Beatles
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:51pm Wilson K:

File under "there's always something more to learn"
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:52pm Wilson K:

Like when someone plays a Neil Young song you somehow never heard even though you thought you collected literally everything he ever recorded
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:53pm chromaphone:

Helter Skelter rocks harder than anything the Kinks ever did, IMOP. The Kinks are great, and they do rock sometimes, but they are about 13.5% the depth and talent of the Beatles.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:54pm Wilson K:

Hey, opinions are like other words that end in "-ions," in that there are more than one of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 12:57pm Stevel:

Gonna call that one, "Organ Explosion"! Also a fine porn title.
Avatar    Fri. 12/2/16 12:58pm hyde:

i feel like you guys might be making up statistics
  Fri. 12/2/16 12:59pm Dean:

I remember seeing the first Frijid Pink album all over town. I perpetually confused them with Pink Floyd.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 12:59pm βrian:

Lunch: Baked salmon with apricot chutney and harissa. (Little pleasures.)
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 1:01pm Jeff Golick:

This is probably reason enough for this expanded/deluxe Sticky Fingers.
Avatar    Fri. 12/2/16 1:01pm hyde:

somebody tried to tell me today that the new Stones record was really good, but i didn't believe them
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 1:01pm βrian:

To this day, I read that album title as "stinky fingers."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

I don't believe it yet, either. I haven't heard it.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 1:02pm chromaphone:

For sure Wilson K.
  Fri. 12/2/16 1:03pm Dean:

Borrowed SF, Elton John's first, and "Tapestry" at once from a neighbor back then. Acquired the Stones' record, zipper and all, and never again paid heed to EJ or CK. Maybe I should make amends.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 1:05pm Wilson K:

Further, I'm not sure what "the exception that proves the rule" means, but I think Helter Skelter is that. :)
  Fri. 12/2/16 1:05pm Dean:

Mine is and has long been "Goat's Head Soup." Serves the Stones right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 1:08pm Webhamster Henry:

So the extended version has a longer zipper?
Avatar    Fri. 12/2/16 1:08pm hyde:

supposedly that Os Mutantes album title translates to "The Divine Comedy or I Am a Bit Disconnected"
  Fri. 12/2/16 1:09pm Dean:

Extended version adopts Velcro. My '71 LP is also an extended version. I play "Bitch" and then I play it again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 1:10pm Webhamster Henry:

Blossom: didn't you have a flute swatter?
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 1:10pm listener james from westwood:

A visit from Blossom is like a visit from a rare and beautiful bird. Captivating.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 1:12pm chromaphone:

Fun? Ok, bring on the ABBA :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 1:20pm Webhamster Henry:

No songs like this out of the Global War On Terror.

Great Green...always felt like he wasn't quite the jazzer that other jazz guitarists were, but his stuff is really funky/bluesy.

Great set!
Thanks UM
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 2:42pm Rich in Washington:

I created a login because math problems trigger my 'do the math problems at the blackboard' trauma and the overall quality of my comments suffer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 2:43pm doctorjazz:

I created a log in because I kept getting the math problems wrong. :(
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 2:44pm Jeff Golick:

@hyde: You are probably right. Carbo was reportedly high as balls when he hit that homer. And also most of the time. (Reportedly = he reported it, deadspin.com...)

Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 2:50pm Rich in Washington:

Holley is an amazing performer. Had the experience of him performing just a few feet in front of me while he improvised an incredible song - and inaugurated KBOO's newly donated - and wonderfully out-of-tune studio piano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 2:50pm Uncle Michael:

Gabba Gabba Hey, Ron...one of us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/2/16 2:50pm Artie Haywire:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 2:51pm Uncle Michael:

I need to remember to make a program announcement about next week's special.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 2:52pm listener james from westwood:

DJ Trouble's Lonnie Holley live sets (plural!) of Lonnie Holley are worth seeking out. He played such a mighty length of time, she spread his set over multiple shows.
Avatar Fri. 12/2/16 2:52pm geezerette:

can I get fries with that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/2/16 2:53pm Uncle Michael:

One of the reasons I don't create a login is that I like doing the math. Another is that answer is 666 an inordinate number of times.
  Fri. 12/2/16 3:00pm ronzoni:
