I'm listening deeply right now to the Cage-ness of the GTDS stream.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:11pm Webhamster Henry:

Well, it started out silent, eventually it came in .
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:13pm Kurt Gottschalk:

ah, jah, the disc is one interrupted recording. i gave it a long, slow fade in cuz that's how it felt on this rainy day in jersey city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:16pm Webhamster Henry:

I used to play for my son when he was a newborn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:16pm Kurt Gottschalk:

nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:17pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i would love to hear anyone's encounters with or reflections about ms. oliveros on the playlist today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:37pm Webhamster Henry:

She was, a Kingston resident, and "Deep Listening Space" was in a storefront in the Rondout section of Kingston for many years. Pauline's partner Ione held the live portions of her annual Dream Festival there. My ex wife and I did a few performances as part of the Dream Fest. www.jhhl.net...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:38pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i always meant to get up to that space. now, of course, i'm sorry i never did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:40pm northguineahills:

Cthulhu damn it! Glad I got to see her play in the rain outside of the Lincoln Center a few years ago...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:41pm Webhamster Henry:

DLS eventually moved to another space in Kingston, the Paint Factory, home of lots of other artists. Deep Listening has now been folded into other work being done at RPI, where Pauline was teaching for many years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:42pm Webhamster Henry:

Dr. PO used two of my apps (SrutiBox, Droneo) in her composition "Droniphonia (2009)", which she performed a few times, including at the show at Miller Theatre when she got the Schuman Award.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:42pm northguineahills:

Hmmm, I actually have No Mo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:43pm Webhamster Henry:

Around 2012, I started working with her directly on the iOS version of AUMI, the Adaptive Use Musical Instrument, which enables severely disabled people (or clouds, turtles, water ... ) to play sounds by tracking video.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:45pm Webhamster Henry:

AUMI has some "usual" instrument sounds, but also samples from Troglodyte's delight, Water phones, the Soldier String Quartet, a swamp (also from Dave Soldier), Waterphones from Jesse Stuart and Glyptodont from Music for Homemade Instruments (just played on Tony Coulter's show about an hour ago).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:46pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i would love to hear droniphonia. is it around somewhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:50pm Webhamster Henry:

It used to be a premium on the DLI website! Here is an excerpt (I think its premiere) .

Al Margolis, of Pogus Productions and If, Bwana, and who comes on Dave Mandl's show once a year, was a Deep Listening staffer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 3:57pm Kurt Gottschalk:

the pogus reissues of her early work were and are so welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 4:02pm Webhamster Henry:

BTW, the record she is manipulating is Caedmon's Nonsense Verse Of Carroll And Lear, with Bea Lilly, Stanley Holloway and Cyril Richard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 4:03pm Webhamster Henry:

Bea Lillie that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 4:05pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar Tue. 11/29/16 5:38pm geezerette:

Always struck by the spatial quality of her music.
You can listen with closed eyes and feel the architecture, like being in a dimly lit cathedral.
Thanks Kurt!

Thanks, Kurt!
  Tue. 11/29/16 6:57pm Dean:

It wouldn't be suitable for the well-wrought poem, but somebody has to record the sound of recycled bottles falling into the huge recycling bin at the site near where I live. One container of a few dozen bottles as they shatter probably registers 130db. The noise is literally deafening and glorious.
Avatar Tue. 11/29/16 6:58pm geezerette:

Beautiful show, Kurt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/29/16 6:58pm coelacanth:

Thanks Kurt!

thanks for listening, everyone.
